Casual

Strength:

Very good value, large selection of accesories, function controls laid out in an intuitive fashion, looks good

Weakness:

not all features are built in- you have to buy additional cards (i.e. for more than a simple double exposure, you need special card)

a very nice camera, easy and intuitive to use, great for a casual user interested in a bit more versatility than the lower level SLR's, fantastic value

Casual

Strength:

Autofocus system is decently fast, even with wide range zoom lens (70-300). Fits well and comfortable and feels a little more sturdy than the older SI series cameras.

Weakness:

This camera has no creative program modes, which is only a weakness if you are a beginner. After awhile you come to use the priority modes. The data flip panel on the right side has options I'd rather have on the outside body (red eye reduction, camera timer).

If you're looking for a closer to professional 35mm camera, and you cannot afford a Nikon N80 or a Minolta 800si, go for one of these. Sure they're a bit older, but you can find these on auction (where I got mine) for around 300 dollars, as opposed to around 500 for the N80 and 800si. Good buy. I have to hug mine every now and then:)

Strength:

Very good automatic exposition system. Very well designed ergonomically. Everything can be set up manually: i.e no automatic flash or this kind of annotying stuff.
Good AF to follow moving subject: for instance horses.

Weakness:

No 2nd curtain flash synch.
Loosy AF on low contrast landscape.

A good camera for beginner, and a good camera for experienced photographs. Leaves great possibilities for creative pictures. Excellent for sporting event, especially with a minolta 200/2.8.
Excellent value as a second-hand camera.

Strength:

Equal to Nikon and Canon SLRs in the pro category. Good avaliability of lenses.
Spot and Average metering (very good)

Weakness:

Not too popular. Everyone swears by Nikons these days.

This camera is a really good value. It offers everything you might want in a 'near' pro SLR. I Used this in a studio and had some very good results for 35mm. The range of lenses is just right and just like the competitors they vary in prices. The only bad thing is that the meter reading information bar is dark on the display so in darknes it is hard to see the indicator in the manual mode. The half-Auto modes are very good in this camera also.

SAME FEATURES AT LOWER PRICE THAN CANON OR NIKON.
LIGHTER (585g)
WITH BUILD-IN FLASH THAT NOT USUALLY IN C OR N

Weakness:

NOT POPULAR
LOWER TRADE OFF VALUE
BATTERY CONSUMING
ONE 2CR5 BATTERY /20 ROLLS OF FILM

2/3 PRICE OF F90X AND THE SAME FEATURES.
I WANT TO BUY A 600SI TOO;BECAUSE IT IS MORE CHEAPER AND WITH ADEQUATE FEATURES.
# 1 VALUE FOR $. IF YOU TAKE MORE THAN 10 ROLLS A WEEK,THEN CONSIDER C / N.

Strength:

Ease of use, better priced and with more featurers than compariable canon and nikon models

Weakness:

Not a rugged as my previous 7000i which lasted 10 years before finally dying after a dunking.

A great camera especially with the VC700 grip. I would like the 5400 HS flash but at the moment I have to make do with my trusty old 5200i. I looked long and hard at canon EOS 5 and Nikon F90 but the price of the Minolta accessories won me over.

none that I have found

Great versatile body.I've been very satisfied with this camera- used usually with a sigma 70-300 lens although I'm still experimenting with the various functions. I found it was an interesting step up from the 400si and 500si. I wanted a faster flash synch speed but got a lot more.
