This is the first "new" camera that I have had in 10 years and I am just now starting to get back into photography. So far this camera has been great. The point and shoot operation is extremely ease for anyone to work with, even my 11 year old is taking nice pictures with it. The only drawback I've had is the lack of manual over-rides. This camera would probably suit me fine for years if I had the option of setting F-stops and other expose settings manually. However, this camera should work out well for me over the next year or two, or at least until I decide I want to get a little more creative with my photography.

Weakness:

None

Great camera for the beginner. It has a manual focus option, but no manual exposure settings.

Strength:

This camera is extremely easy to use and very lightweight. One of the features I like most about it is the autofocus with the option to be manual. I prefer manual cameras, but at times want autofocus. This camera gives me both and lets me choose which I'd like to use. It also works great with night photos. I've taken a lot of photos of churches around the area at night, but have never been able to get such crisp, clear photos as this camera gives me.

Weakness:

I haven't had any yet, and I don't expect any. I consider this camera very dependable.

A very affordable, dependable and easy-to-use camera. Since it is extremely easy to use, I would suggest this camera to beginners who want to learn quickly and save money. It's also great for intermediate to expert photographers. Contact me at dane811@aol.com if you would like to see some photos I've shot with this camera.

Strength:

Bought the QTsi for the price and the name.

Weakness:

Haven't had much of a chance to use it yet, but.....

Second camera that I bought. It was a consideration for the price and the ease of use. The point and shoot feature fits my family needs very well. My wife as well as my kids can use at any time. Considered the canon rebel x, but the QTsi was a recent model. I like the manual features of the Rebel, but for the family camera, I thought it might be useless. The price of the QTsi was attractive as well. I hope that it was a good buy. Other reports of these low-end minolta slrs seem to suggest that they have a tendency to break on the user. That is why I went with the QTsi-hoping that minolta has worked out the problems. Also, the so-called improved autofocusing feature may be worth checking into.

Strength:

Easy to use, takes decent pictures

Weakness:

no light meter and no manual control for shutter speed or aperature; auto focus takes too long for action shots

I'd like more control over exposure settings, but all in all, this camera is sufficient for everyday use. (You won't catch a shot of a kid on a bike with it, though.)

Strength:

Great Camera for the person who wants more than a point and shoot. It allows your to be creative in your photography.

Weakness:

The only manual control is the focus. If you want to make the step beyond beginner this camera will limit you.

If you want a camera that will alow you to shoot general photos but want to beable to use different lenses this is the camera for you. If you want to move beyound general photography and do some creative things with your camera them pay the few dollars more and move to an Auto Focus camera with full manual overrides. For people who want more than a point and shoot camera but don't want to get into a complicated camera this is for you. Well worth the money when purchased as a package with a zoom lense.

Customer Service

Good - The main chip died after 3 years. I average 3-5 rolls a film per week, the camera was heavly used in all conditions and tempetures. Ritz Photo gave me a loaner and I purchased a Minolta STsi. Cost to repair not worth the money.

Strength:

Easy to use. Built in flash.

Weakness:

No manual any thing but focus.

I'm a 16 year old beginner photographer. In my eyes this camera is much like a point and shoot.
It is great if you are just getting started in photography, but if you like shuter speeds, f/stops, and any other manual over-ride you won't get it. The body is nice and light, all the controls are easy to find, and economical. I put an 70-210mm lens to out see the factory 35-80mm. It takes great close-ups of flowers and whe n you need zoom it still proforms well. All in all it is a little to easy for my taste but it takes great pictures.

Strength:

Lightweight, easy to carry. Great for travel snapshots. Never had a problem with lens clarity. Accesories are moderately priced and since all Maxxum lenses will fit this body, easy to acquire. The system is easy to use. You will never see this in a manual, but the QTsi does in fact have a focus confirmation for manual focus. Depress the shutter partially while focusing and wait for the green focus light.

Weakness:

Very limited camera. Simply a point and shoot with a few bells and whistles. Plastic body. Manual is very limited. Viewfinder could provide a little more info. 1 year warranty may be an industry standard, but hard to swallow when Pentax offers a 5 year.

This is a great camera for the beginner. Never had a single problem with image quality. The manual could provide alot more info than it does, e.g. manual focus confirmation. The pre-programmed shutter and aperture controls could be a very useful training tool for the beginner if the viewfinder could add more info. The warranty is too limited in duration. A great camera though for a second body or for introducing others to photography.
