Strength:

This is a great camera with features for both beginners and intermediate users. I love it's compact body, very portable. The price is also very reasonable

Weakness:

a little too small for my hand. (it's not really a weakness at all, I get use to it's small size after a while).

Very good camera for the price you pay for. 99% of the pictures that I took turned out beautifully (better than the ones I took with other cameras). All in all, a great camera for photography enthusiasts (beginner-intermediate). Absolutely adore this little SLR

Strength:

Value. A real camera at a point & shoot prices. Very impressed with the output. Flexability. Several auto modes and full manual control allow for increased control over creative work. Very versatile.

Weakness:

Construction. The plastic body and lens mount needs a lot of care.

If you are moving from a point & shoot or APS camera to a full 35SLR, this is a great choice. It provides three levels of control from idiot mode to full manual and lots of choices in between. The output is definately print-worthy.

Strength:

Small and light. Easy to use and configure for different modes of shooting. Film loading seems quick and easy (almost as easy as my APS camera). When it's in auto mode, the camera picks out the correct apperature, shutter speed, etc, pretty well, making great shots.

Weakness:

LCD panel sometimes won't turn on, requiring the camera to be turned off and on a few times. Switch from AF to manual focus seems a little clunky. This could just be my inexperience with cameras, though.

Being a beginner, I found that all the cameras I looked at were a bit daunting. The sales guy convinced me to look at this over a Canon Rebel 2000. It was a bit less expensive (about 30 bucks) and had more features from what I could tell. Overall, I love the camera. If I had to buy it again, I'd do it. The mix of features for the price made it a good buy. Now I just need to spend more money and get more lenses!

Strength:

lightweight, easy to use, great 2nd camera for those emergencies. excellent control placement
Much better 8-segment metering than competition.

Weakness:

only 1 AF sensor, so the focus is slower than my other bigger & bulkier Maxxums. No LED to assit so it gets confused when the subject is in front of a white wall

Great 35mm entry camera, best value compared to other point-n-shoot and entry level 35mm from Canon and Nikon.

Customer Service

All my maxxums have been great, never had to go back for service yet.

Strength:

I was able to find many lenses that fit maxxum AF body. Aperture priority is very handy. Relatively fast shutter speed - 1/2000 sec. But it's average for the class this camera is in.

Weakness:

Slow flash sync -1/90. No depth of field preview. A bid kicker in the ass, when i found out that Cannon Rebel 2000 has it. I don't like the fact that body sets the aperture right before you release the shutter. I would rather set the aperture on the lense and be able to see what's in focus thru the view finder. Auto focus is slow, and many times plain inacurate.

for $250 - $300 dollars its an ok camera. Good body to start with, although Rebel 2000 clearly wins since it has DOF preview and shoots 0.5 frames more per second.

Strength:

Having received the camera as a gift I was very pleased with it's ease of use, weight and clarity of the pictures. I find during special occassions it's a nice feature to have the timer so I can be included in the family photos.

Weakness:

Unless the setting is on the specific function, I find it hard takes too long to take continuous pictures. I also found the display didn't always light up when first turned on and I had to turn it off and on to get it to work. The night pictures leave much to be desired. This could be due to lack of experience but the lighting in the pictures tend to be blurrs with the 'black of night' looking more like the 'brown of night'.

Personally I like equipment that is simple to use and this camera is just that. I know I still have a lot to learn but am confident with all of the options on this camera that I won't have to buy another one for a while.

Customer Service

When my LCD wouldn't light up I took it in for repair and I haven't had a problem with it since.

Strength:

-Best alternative for replacing old Minolta
-Better auto focus and results than older model
-Good pictures from first 5 rolls, very pleased with improvements
-Saved $50-100 over Cannon alternatives

Weakness:

-There are times when I have to wait for camera to get shot I want; needs quicker trigger/shutter action

-I like Minolta for the price difference; if money not an object, I would probably do Canon or Nikon next time

Customer Service

-old Minolta gave out after a decade; cost of repair $150 and six weeks; replacing body made more sense

Strength:

Feels nice in the hands, easy to use, clear display

Weakness:

I've taken 3 rolls of film and only about 40% are focused. The rest are fuzzy. Could be because I'm a beghiunner, but I get better focus with a disposable!

Seems like it's the perfect camera for the beginner because of its hybrid qualities, but this beginner will be easily discouraged by poor- quality photographs.

Customer Service

The Camera Shop has agreed to take a look at it. Don't know what will happen after that.
