Weakness:

EASY TO MOVE EXPOSURE SELECTOR ALTHOUGH PICURES ARE USUALLY ACCEPTABLE. NO WAY TO CHECK FILM SPEED OR LOADING.

I HAVE USED THIS CAMERA FOR 22 YEARS. IT IS EXTREMELY DURABLE AND RELIABLE. IT ALSWAYS HAS TAKEN EXCELLENT QUALITY PICURES. IF I COULD BUY A NEW ONE I WOULD.

Strength:

Brilliant design - the best, most innovative automatic exposure camera ever made. Great Ergonomics. Solidly built for so small and light a camera. Inexpensive, great lens selection

Weakness:

Minolta's unwillingness to service these once they moved into Autofocus big time. Leatherette covering shrinks on most of them.

This is the best camera Minolta ever designed and built. Innovative provision for any auto exposure mode you might ever want, plus metered manual. Great Ergonomics. Leica knew how great this camera was, even if Minolta never did, and Leica used it as the basis of every SLR they brought out for nearly 20 years. It's a d*** shame Minolta stopped servicing these, rather than treating them like the classics they are

lousy compared to Nikon and Canon.

Strength:

Excellent shutter control, and accurate metereing.

Weakness:

Flash sync could be faster.

This is a great all around camera. Very light and quiet. This in conjunction with Minolta Lenses can provide professional quality photographys.

Customer Service

Never used for any of my Minolta cameras in 20 years. Never needed it.

Strength:

Good looking; small and light-weight; silky smooth shutter; original.

Weakness:

Leather cover (at the camera back) shrinks; no TTL flash metering.

First of all I am a Minolta fan. Secondly this is basically the same camera as Leica R4. Thirdly it is a small and chic camera to look at. Fourth it can use ALL the manual focus Minolta lens. It''s a gem in the long Minolta history and I think at least Minolta should come up with some kind anniversary version of it, just like the Nikon FM3A, and demonstrate how good the Minolta MF camera could be.

Customer Service

n/a from Minolta any more. The film rolling lever was stucked once; had to go to a local camera repair shop (lucky they still know how to fix it)

Strength:

Simplicity,size,performance,good value lenses available

Weakness:

Hard to find parts for repairs

The XD-11 is a very fine camera. It's easy to use, and is also a good tool to learn photography from. Professionally built, though its size and weight don't really prove so. The complete features and instructions can be seen at www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics, under its European name Xd-7. As long as you can find a repairman who can maintain it, this camera is a very very good buy.

Strength:

awesome features i.e. aperature and shutter speed priority as well as manual operation. Easy to use and understand. Known by many to be one of the best 35mms made by Minolta. Great for a beginners, students, or manual buffs.

Weakness:

harder to find equipment in smaller town camera stores

This is a great camera--in fact I have 2! Well worth the reasonable price (around $180 "blue book" for body in good condition)

This camera can truly be called a classic. Just about bulletproof. I have two of these cameras and have nothing but praise for both.

Strength:

Easy to use and suit for intermediate level people.

Weakness:

No spare part for repair. My XD-7 flash system (both hot-shoe and flash plug-hole can,t activate the flash), I sent to Minolta for repair and they said no spare parts stored for such model, I searched for the whole town and no one can fix it because of the out -of stock spare part.

Good camera but poor marketing support. No photographers want their camera became obsolent after 10-20 years.

Customer Service

Very helpful but no acutual use. They are nice but can't solve the problem. That's why I change to Nikon series

Strength:

Auto-exposure modes, including "self-made" programmed exposure! Easy to used, rugged and longlasting

Weakness:

No TTL-flash metering

I bought my XD-7 secondhand in 1990, when I was looking for an upgrade after years of using Pentax-screwmount equipment. I never regretted this buy; the XD-7 offers almost every feature one would like. Only TTL-flashmetering is not available, that's why I bought a couple of X-700's. It works with all Minolta bayonetmount lenses: Auto-Rokkors, MC-Rokkors and MD-Rokkors. You cannot do anything wrong; the camera's metering system always provides the right exposure! Being hooked on Minolta by the XD-7, I went on buying other fine models like the XM (XK) and XE-1 (XE-7). I can only recommend the XD-7 to every who wants a camera that performs in all circumstances. It can be used by experienced photographers as well as by beginners. System back-up is immense: secondhand lenses by Minolta and independent manufacturers are abundant; Minolta even still make MD-lenses!

Customer Service

good enough; needed replacing of flashsync contacts and mirror-dampener.

Strength:

Bomber! Good photos! Easy to use!

Weakness:

Heavy! Bulky!

I inherited this camera 4 years ago...I've carried this camera all over Latin America. It is extremely rugged. I mountain bicycle tour with it and it is still ticking! My father bought this camera new back in the 1970's and as far as I know it has never needed any major work...extremely rugged.
