Strength:

This camera is fast and very quiet.
Automatic rewind is also fast and quiet (great for weddings).

Weakness:

Wish it had a cable release thread.

I have only had this camera about a year. So far, it is a great camera. For the money (compared to the F5), can't beat the performance. It is fast and quiet. Would recommend this camera to any serious photographer.

Strength:

Nikon quality and ruggedness.

Weakness:

No mirror lock or 100% viewfinder.

When i first learned photgraphy, it was first with medium format followed by large format (both systems ALL MANUAL). Only now did I try 35mm! While I like the larger formats, I believe Nikon is the best of the 35mm systems. I still think Zeiss and Leica have better lenses, but you can't beat Nikon. Canon is a lot of whizz bang garbage. You guys should ignore that automated crap. Besides, if you're a serious photographer, you'll move up to medium and large format, where it's overwhelmingly MANUAL. Anyways, I chose autofocus because my eyes are getting bad and I believe 35mm should be spontaneous and fast.

Strength:

Preliminary Review after 3 weeks. VERY fast AF, great metering, ergonomic controls. Very easy learning curve when familiar with other Nikon equipment. Feels solid and tough. Uses AA batteries

Weakness:

If I have to complain, I would say it is a little heavy. However, this is due to its solid construction.

The F100 was purchased to replace an N8008s which is currently in Nikon's Service Center. I was hesitant to get a different camera after so many years. If the $1000 price doesn't turn you off, you will not be disappointed with the camera. I shoot product photography in studio and in the field, sports photography, portraiture, and this camera performs equally well in all areas

Customer Service

Not needed. Repair center is a little slow, though.

Strength:

Fast autofocus.
Programmable custom functions.
Strong body.
Accurate meter.
User friendly.

Weakness:

No mirror lock-up, although I don't need it.
Sometimes has a hard time focusing in very low light.

This is an excellent camera body. I use mine for pj wedding coverage with a 35-70 2.8, and two SB flashes on a Stroboframe 15" bracket. It is fast and reliable. I programmed the custom functions for automatic load and rewind and other personal preferences. The metering is very accurate. The AF does seem to seek alot in low light, so I bought a touch controlled Acculight, which is mounted to the bracket for those dark reception halls and after dark beach celebrations. Why spend the extra $ for an F5 when this wonderful camera will practically do it all. Highly Recommended.

Strength:

Does everything it says it will in the brochure perfectly. Extremely easy to use, good straight forward layout. Built like a tank, will survive all weather extremes. At this price it's a steal.

Weakness:

None, except for the battery consumption problems and dodgy rewind fork on some early models, which has now been put right.

This camera is the perfect balance of design, function and durability, a truely exceptional piece of equipment, backed up by customer service which is second to none. If you don't already own one, put it on your dream list.

Customer Service

Nikon UK replaced my rewind fork and solved the battery consumption problem in just a few days. They didn't even charge me for postage, and fitted new batteries, despite the camera being bought abroad and out of warranty. This isn't good, it's outstanding!

Strength:

Strong Material
Fast
Feature Rich

Weakness:

Poor material for the back.
Optional Camera Back has little features and is also of poor plastic material.
No mirror lock up.
No Internal Viewfinder shade.

I love my F100, but after reading so many problems with the camera, I am a little scared. I hope not to experience what other photographers have experienced. - I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

Strength:

The camera that has it all, body and function ('cept mirror lockup), famously executed. Despise any and all auto features? No problem; just use manual mode

Weakness:

At about 94% coverage with smallish magnification, the viewfinder is barely pro.

An auto-everything and manual camera, all in one, equally fine in both departments; a baby F5 only in size.

Customer Service

At age of one day, the mirror turned out to be of the instant-no-return variety, in Aperture priority mode only. After a protracted hassling the dealer, a long time acquaintance, agreed to substitute a new camera. No help from Nikon, though---they wanted to do a repair job.

Strength:

Fast autofocus.
Shiftable focussing brackets.
Auto Rewind
Sturdy grip
Good looks
Superb balancing

Weakness:

The camera works even when the rewound roll is not removed from the camera. This is dangerous in situations where you concentrate too much on picture taking rather than the dials.
Even my brand new camera had a spot on the pressure plate, which I suspect, must have been caused by some electrical fault inside.
The focussing bracket sometimes refuses to shift towards the left.
There is no facility for gridlines as in F80.
There is no facility for a mechanical cable release like that in F80.

I do not understand why it is necessary for Nikon to emphasize so much on exposure metering. As an advanced professional, I need a camera with very fast focussing, with manual setting of shutterspeed and aperture through a dial for more accuracy. The exposure meter and other modes may be provided, but the Company does not have to spend a lot on it as the ultimate results are in the hands of the lab personnel handling your roles.
The property of F100 to continue to function even when the fully rewound roll is not removed is a very serious drawback and should be corrected at the earliest.
The facility of gridlines which helps a lot while photgraphing the interiors and products, should also be added.

Customer Service

Not needed as yet, thank God.

Strength:

Build Quality, Focus speed, viewfinder, ease of handling

Weakness:

Lots of controls, First SLR I have owned that required me to read the namual to use it.

This is the best Nikon professional SLR I have ever used. It feels more solid than my old F3P. It feels as solid as an F2 but with better ergonomics. I love this camera. For professional photojournalish or sports photography it cannot be beat. It is also a great value when compared to the F5. The fact that it uses all of my old AI nikkor glass is amazing. Try that with a Canon EOS.

Strength:

Metering;
Can see entire frame with (thick) glasses on;
Built like a tank;
Logical controls/great feel in hands.

Weakness:

None so far.

If anybody is waffling between choosing the F100 v. the N80 (i did), pick the F100. You will not be sorry (i'm not). The N80, even though it provides the same great metering as the F100, feels junky compared to the tank like F100. I rated the camera 4 out of 5 stars for value because the N80 is comparable in terms of features (not quality), at a much lower price.

If you are convinced you will buy the N80, DO NOT ask to hold/touch the F100, it will only make your decision harder.

The decision between the F100 and N90 is a no brainer.

Customer Service

None so far.
