Nikon FM10 35mm SLRs

Nikon FM10 35mm SLRs

DESCRIPTION

If you want total manual control, the FM10 is a great choice. Select shutter speed and aperture. Use manual film advance and rewind manually. The Center-weighted light meter guides you towards a great exposure, but you have options to do it on your own. You focus manually and preview depth-of-field to see the image quality and sharpness. It's 100% your choice – a great way to learn and build confidence.

Strength:

Lightweight, simple, durable (I''ve dropped it a few times, and it still works great).

Weakness:

metering isn''t always accurate, fully manual, so difficult at times (action shots)

This is a wonderful camera to begin with. I''ve had mine for almost 3 years, and its been great.

Strength:

It is the cheapest body that can be used with Nikkor lenses. Light weight. At least it has a depth of field preview, which can''t be found in F70.

Weakness:

1. Plastic Made 2. The battery compartment tends to loose. I need to tape it with the base of the body. 3. Shutter speed is not shown in the viewfinder.

If you find a barely used one at very attractive price like I did, it is worth to be my 2nd camera. Otherwise, save the money to buy a used FG, which has more features, reliable, and TTL capability!! A New FM-10 is way overprice compare to its features and reliability.

Strength:

The FM10 is inexpensive, and it uses a wide range of high-quality Nikon lenses. It's versatile, providing a photographer the control that only a manual camera can provide, while being able to use auto focus lenses if a photographer wants to move in that direction later. Of course, that versatility lets a shooter use both a manual focus and an auto focus body at the same time.

Weakness:

Since the FM10 wasn't actually made by Nikon, one may wonder about its long-term reliability. It needs a plug to allow use of an off-camera flash without resorting to a hot-shoe adaptor.

The Nikon FM10 is a good camera for an amateur who wants more control than an auto focus camera would allow. The FM10 would also make a decent, lightweight backup for a professional who is already using Nikon lenses. The FM10 is a step in the right direction for a budget-minded photographer who wants the opportunity to improve his equipment later while not having to scrap his old camera, lenses and accessories. If I had a larger budget, there are other manual Nikon cameras (such as the FM2n) that I would prefer to own. But the FM10 has performed well so far, and I'm pleased that I bought it.

Strength:

Great manual camera
uses excellent nikon optics
very light weight

Weakness:

plastic parts

For an intro camera you can't go wrong for the price. I used some of my very expensive Nikor optics and the pictures are every bit as good as the legend Leica M6 that costs 10X more (just for the body). If you are on a budget this is a great way to get into Nikor optics cheaply.

Strength:

Nice camera for beginers, not too heavy and good for traveling and taking some informal pics. You can add the 70/210mm lens for an average zoom.

Weakness:

The exposimeter goes crazy when changing from ISO 100 (problably only in my case) when using speeds below 1/15, the advance lever sometimes gets obstruct when trying to shut a very quick secuence.

Well, nice camera but a little limited... good for a not expecting to grow kind of people. It makes nice shots but they could be greater, the 35/70mm lens is not really the best one... and its f3.5/22 makes it a not pro lens.
Speeds from B up to 1/2000
Dial for ISO from 25 up to 3200
But its a cheap one, and you can get the 70/210mm lens for a low price also... so thats make it a pretty good deal for the very beginner... I have been with it for about 8 months and i think its time to grow and leave FM10 back...
Consider it for the low price of all its equipment and when you get bored of it, change!!!

Strength:

Manual. You control every aspect of the picture. Not too much of an investment for beginners.

Weakness:

The only weakness i have found so far is that to take a picture the film advance lever must be slightly out. This can be a problem for people whose dominant eye is their left eye. (such as me)

An inexpensive, totally manual camera for the beginner. A great start

Strength:

Well contructed, all manual, compact, solid feal. High quality for price, ergonomically placed controls. Although this camera is assembled by Cosina it has the look and feel of a true Nikon. The 35-70mm manual lens that comes with the kit is very nicely contructed .The outer covering is made of nicely finished polycarbonate and is very durrable. The chasis is die cast aluminum. The quality for the price is unbelivable.Sturdy Nikon F mount.

Weakness:

None

This is a great little camera, I bought it as a manual back up to my autofocus Nikons and also because I miss My Fm2. For the price you cann't go wrong. Some people on this site comented about the polycarbonate outer body and I donn't understand why this would be a problem. Bottom line, this is a well bulit camera that is definately up to Nikon standards.

Completely Manual. Great for beginers and compatible with all Nikon lenses.

Weakness:

The body is made of plastic. Also the 35-70 that comes with it is not very fine in quality as other nikor lenses.

Excelent piece. It has given me a lot of great moments and memories. Go visit my site with my work. All photos taken with Nikon FM10.

Very easy to use, especially good for those new to photography.

Weakness:

Construction a little flimsy, exposure meter not accurate at slower shutter speeds.

A great BEGINNERS camera, but I have feel like I have outgrown it after just a short time of use. I will continue to use it as a back-up, however.
