Strength:

Solid precise construction,I love just picking one up

Weakness:

none that can be found

You are in complete control every step of the way. no plastic feel. Makes you learn the basics but when i release the shutter I feel like I have accomplished something. This one wont get traded. In 2020 when digital takes over I will still be using my FM2.Keep making that film.

Any weakness I listed would be quibbling. (Like the lights for the meter: -o+ )

I just love this camera and would recommend it to anyone looking for a manual camera.

Strength:

I'd have to say that this camera will flawlessly perform it's albeit simple function of opening it's shutter to let the image in, every time, without any problems, hassles, beeping, etc. The mechanics are superb and seem to last and last. I've had this one for almost ten years and it's never protested, even with an MD12 drive just about welded to it all that time.
All the controls are easily accessible, the viewfinder communicates all the information you would need - aperture, light meter and shutter speed - so no need to take take you eye of the scene.

Weakness:

Hard to say. I think for once Nikon got it right and realised it, hence the continued production.

This camera would suit anyone who wants to think about the images they want to record. If you want to point and shoot without firing those synapses up top, please don't buy film and use up valuable resources. Use a digital camera instead!
I travelled around the world for four and a half years with this camera a motor drive and three Nikkor lenses through some relatively harsh climates and never had to think about this camera breaking down. Although I currently have a F4s (which sees a fair amount of film), I expect the FM2N will still be firing long after the F4s is cremated.

Customer Service

One of these days I guess I'll have to put them to the test.

No true MLU

Can't say enough about this wonderful piece of equipment; for beginner or for a Pro, this is THE camera to get! Most of my students start out with the FM2n and continue to have it in their bags for many years.

Strength:

The camera is simple, light weight and reliable = and will work without battteries. Try that with your autao magic auto focus wonder cameras!

Weakness:

No problems really, but it do find the camera a bit noisy. At first I thought that this would result in visible loss of sharpness from vibration, but this is not the case.

I like this camera because it allowed me to retain all my old glass and have a body that will be supported should it become necessary. If I decide to get an autofocus body to compliment this camera, it's nice to know that I won't need to break the bank all at once for all new lenses

Strength:

Well built, VERY reliable, very intuitive to use, hands on manual control, can operate without batteries.

Weakness:

I wish the meter readout was a little more sophistecated. A match needle would be nice instead of the "+o-".

Very well built and Very reliable camera.

A great option for those, like me, that prefer using a manual camera. Nikon fully supports this camera. Importantly, because it uses Nikon F series lenses, a full series of easily found used and new lenses and lens designs are available for use with this camera. For comparison Minolta, Pentax and Canon offer only a limited selection of their lenses for use with thier manual and/or manual focus cameras.

Also, after the N8008s (which is a good camera) it was nice not to have to constantly worry about batteries.

Strength:

The FM2 is the most reliable tool I own. It's a great camera to teach photography off of and is built extremely well. I've probably put 4000 shots through the camera and still have only minimal complaints.

Weakness:

Light meter was killed when I fell in a river. Camera suffered no other damage. MD12 is a bit quirky at times with the FM2. Finder is somewhat dark for low light photography.

While I will make the move to autofocus in the next few months, the FM-2 was an ideal camera for me and Well worth the 300 or so I paid for it in 1987.

Customer Service

Service on the meter was as expected. Reliable and expensive.

Strength:

The body is strong, lite, and uses Nikon's F series lens.

Weakness:

The view finder is a little too dark for dim light use. Might try a diff. focusing screen.

I have had the FM2n for over 5 years. Compared to the Canon F1, I like the Canon's metering, bright view finder, and mirror lock-up. The FM2n is almost as sturdy at a third the F1 wieght, has 1/250 flash sync.

Weakness:

None. Works well with or without the batteries!

After using most of the pre-AF Nikons in this price range, I have settled on the FM2N and will never go back.
