    Strength:

Small and light, you can take it anywhere with you. sleek design good autofocus has lots of features

    Weakness:

    haven't found any yet.

This camera had all the qualities I was looking for- lightweight, compact, has manual and automatic settings and affordable. Other preset modes like the night portrait mode and the landscape mode also made the camera easier to use for a beginner like me. The photos I took came out crisp and sharp, like a professional's. I recommend this camera for the beginner who's always on the go.

    Weakness:

Flash over exposes in dim light Plastic lens mount No DOF No Bulb

When our point and shoot camera broke in Italy I took the opportunity to buy this SLR with the included 28-80mm lens. It was roughly the same price as in the states (BEFORE the VAT rebate). Pictures are sharp and well exposed in most light. The camera is lightweight, but not as light as some of the Canon and Minolta models. However the Nikon feels more sturdy than those cameras and the lens is slightly faster (F3.3 vs. F3.5). The auto mode is apparently able to recognize backlit subjects and deploy the flash (although it occasionally thinks that a mountain 20 miles away is backlit). If found this feature fairly convenient most of the time but switched to program or aperature priority when shooting scenery. Indoor shots also turned out well, but outdoor night shots with the flash were uniformly over-exposed. The N55 comes with a diopter adjustment on the viewfinder that is missing on the N65. Other than for that, the 1.5 oz lighter wieght and 0.5" smaller size of the N55, the N65 might be a better choice as it has a metal lens mount, a DOF button, bulb exposure, and better flash control for only $20 more. Either camera is better than the competing Minolta and Canon offerings.

    Strength:

Small and intuitive to handle. allows for fast candid shots. good price value. Nikon system compatible except some lenses.

    Weakness:

    None for this price.

The Camera may take a while to focus if subject/background is too dim. The functions are the simplest amongs the SLR available in the market and everything is extremely intuitive. All the bottons are appropriately located except that the AF/MF switch may be better designed with a slide switch instead of a lever switch, which is of course a matter of personal preference. The ability to select the one of the 3 focus points easily is a plus that beats the competition at this price range. The lack of a TTL-metering in external flash may be a bother to some. But usually this function is needed by more advanced users, who will of course pay for a camera in a higher range.

    Strength:

Build quality, Ergonomics, Styling, and great features.

    Weakness:

Auto focus lens a bit noisy but apart from that the camera is an excellent beginners SLR which features for the more advanced photographer.

I spent a long time deciding which SLR camera to buy. The main reason for my purchase was for my holiday next year to Mexico. At the time of purchase I was undecided between the F55 and the Canon EOS 300. My first purchase was to be a big mistake, I purchased the Canon going by what the salesman told me. Having played with the Canon for a little time I found the body to be very plastic and much like a big disposable camera. I took the camera back and exchanged it for the F55 which is a far better build and has the slightly larger lens too. This being my first SLR purchase or second should I say, the Nikon is a great buy and gets top stars in my opinion.

    Strength:

Light, a lot of features almost equal to the pro model,

    Weakness:

Some feature is a little complicate to adjust such as F-Stop

Well, for my opinion, if you sometimes need to go out with light camera, but need somethings that can do much more than a compact camera, the the F55 would be more than just fine. Do not compare with the pro-cam like F100 or F90x which I am using. Just think that if you are about to pay the same price for a compact camera try the F55, you get the same weight ( a little bigger and heavier), same price, but can lead you to take some advance photo. As well as can let you take anypicture easily like any campact camera would give, just turn the knob to P or Auto. Therefore, no objection about the F55 at all. Well the plastic feeling doesnot bother me at all on the easy day with F55 instead of the F100, but give me light weight happiness. You can get most of the features you want in this F55

    Strength:

Size, weight, ergonomics. It''s just a nice little camera that WORKS. No hassle and all the features you''d expect. Well, almost all. See below.

    Weakness:

No depth-of-field preview. Front ring rotates whwn focussing (polarizer!!!)

There are two ways to use this camera. Set it on Autofocus and on "green" and .... you have a point-and-shoot. It just makes much better pictures. Or set it on Aperture-priority or shutter-priority or fully manual (exposure and focus) and you can do whatever you want. Most of the time the automatic makes VERY good choices, though. The ergonomics are superb, the weight amazing and the new 28-80 G lens is fantastic. Sharp, contrasty and a tick faster than most other 28-80. Not too noisy and fast enough for pets or kids. If you need a good first SLR or a second one ... go get it.

    Customer Service

I did not need it for this one, but Nikon has good customer Service.
