Strength:

lightweight, very good handeling, good lens compatibility, very accurate 3d matrix metering,IR remote control, built in flash,DOF preview, perfectly exposed pin sharp results with both slide and print film,5 point focusing system

Weakness:

no exposure lock,AF tends to hunt in poor light and with my sigma 70-300mm APO zoom.battery life is nowhere near nikon's estmates.

very good camera, excellent handeling due to low weight and small size.i currently use it with a sigma ef430 super flash which i find excellent and a sigma 70-300mm APO zoom which causes the autofocus to hunt a little in dim light but the results are impressive.i would recommend this camera to anyone wanting a feature packed slr that wont break the bank.it uses the same focusing module as the more expensive F80(or n 80depending on where you from !)which is very accurate.2.5 frames per second motorwind is very good also.overall i found this a excellent camera but an exposure lock would have been nice.

I chose the N65 after looking at the ZX-7(Pentax) and the Rebel 2000(Canon). I was upgrading from a Rebel SII. I have been very pleased with the N65 which I purchased with a Sigma UCIII 28-105($109 @ Adorama) . AF Lock comes in handy and so does the spot metering! This camera will work fine for the beginner to the advanced amatuer. I don't think you could ask for more in this price range!!!

Strength:

- Nikon
- Price
- Small size
- Easy to learn
- Takes no more then 5 sec to make all the settings for any shot

Weakness:

- The default lens (28-80) doesn't have the manual aperture settings
- No manual ISO (this can be compensated by over/under exposure)
- A bit too small (think about buying the battary pack)
- Auto-focus doesn't seem to find one while using other then the central focus points - this requires rechecking

I really like the camera, now considering to get some more lenses (14-35, and probably 80-300) and a battery pack.
I own the camera for about a month, but have already shot 8 films. Till the last moment I was considering to get a Canon Rebel 2000 (EOS 300) but the local camera shop convinced me to get a Nikon (which I don't regret).
There were some reviews saying that the button was a bit sensitive - I didn't find it sensitive at all (except for the very first shot which I did take by mistake).
One of the reasons I was going to get a Canon was a 7 points focus, while Nikon has only 5; till now I used only two modes - the closest subject and the central point. Others don't seem very useful anyway - you can lock focus and recompose.
ISO settings cannot be overwritten - this could be a minor obstacle for those using films whose ISO should rather not be used (see reviews on Fuji Reala); otherwise one can always over/underexpose.
The fully automatic mode and the P mode seem to give slightly different default exposure settings - which I didn't get to explain yet.

Strength:

Feels solid;
Metal bayonet mount;
intuitive in auto mode;
able to use fully manual
many features to keep someone occupied while they are learning!

Weakness:

Depth of Field preview button just isn't much help to me-- can't tell much of a difference between using and not using it. The camera is a bit slow to focus in low-contrast situations in auto-focus, but I just put it in manual for those shots, and all was well.

I bought this camera as my first SLR. So far I am quite happy with the purchase. I was initially afraid that optical quality on the lens included in this package would be less since the camera package is not one of the most expensive-- but was pleasantly surprised. I took the camera to the zoo this weekend to practice, and the Nikon worked well in a variety of situations . . . from an extreme close-up of a butterfly on a leaf, to shooting a pic of the teeth of a shark as it swam by behind 4 inches of glass, to full-sun outdoor shots. The pictures are very crisp! The pictures in both auto-mode and in various manual modes all were of good quality. I like the fact that the lens mount is metal-- more durable. Before purchasing this camera, I looked at the Pentax ZX-7 and the Canon Rebel. Both seemed to be less durable to me-- they just didn't have a solid-enough feel in my hand. Plus the Pentax, I've read, is less compatable with different lens brands, where the Nikon is pretty compatable. I bought a Tamron 70-300 zoom, and the pictures with that lens were just as good as with the Nikkor lens the camera body came with. It's nice to know I can buy a variety of lenses, and still use this same body. The Rebel has some good features, but when I was purchasing it, the Rebel was more expensive than the Nikon, and I really didn't see any improvement in quality. And the mount is plastic. Yuck. Hence the Nikon is home with me. This camera has a wide variety of settings, and one can go very manual with it, so I know I'll be able to grow with it. At the same time, autofocus will allow me, when the mood suits, to not worry about camera settings as much and just enjoy the moment.

Weakness:

Don't like the Small CR2's. Can't manuely set the film speed, all done through DX coding.

Good overal camera. Nikon could have done a few things differently with this camera but all in all a good setup.

Very easy to use right out of the box

Weakness:

No manual ISO select (fine by me)

I bought this camera after my Canon AE1 droped and broke the Hotshoe.
Before decide to keep this F65 (N65 in America), I have brought home the Minolta Maxxum STSi Date, after 2 rolls try-out with 1hour developed at Costco I decided to bring it back as the store allows 2 week grace return, I then exchanged it to the F65 with 80 CDN more.
I have to say I never be a Pro or even an Immediate Photographer, I'm just a casual picture taken person even I have out grown my AE1 with all the gears, I have took many bad pictures as well as many good and great pictures.
After study througt out the manual book I decided to try out right away with Kodak Gold 400, then the Fuji 200, rush them again to Costco for 1 hour developing, hang around at the Computer section wait for 1 hour came to pick them up,
get in the car, I was so hesitate to see the pictures and completly forget a lady wait for me to pull the car out so she can put hers in.
The pictures were so surprised to me, I mean I never expected they are so beautiful, none of them out of focus but 4 were accident shot due to trigger so sensitve, the second roll is perfect.
All the pictures were paithful recorded in color, vivid and sharply detail.
I have tried all the modes available excepted Sport and Bracketing. They all work great.
Two weeks ago I took it to my sister wedding; This time I used it with totally confident so I can concentrat on composition, most of my portrait shots and many Close-ups in between were turn out beautiful, many of them look even better than those from the Wedding Photographer my sister hired and yet he even came with a helper carrying the Disfussing Umbrella. Now I wonder is he really a Wedding Photographer or just a novice like me. Get the Nikon F65 with a slave flash and come home smiling.
As said before I never be a Pro but with this camera I will start to build all the gears for it, especially Nikor lens or Tamron.
I think if Nikon come out with a new entry level SLR similar to F65 but with ISO and Mirror Lockup
it will be a real winner but for me you already are, Nikon!

Pretty fast,
light weight,
including 'okay' lens,
easy to work with,
(and also manual settings)

Weakness:

no manual iso/asa setting.

If you're a beginner like me than this is the perfect camera to start out with. Pretty easy to use cause of all the automatic options. But when you get more experienced it's also possible to manual change all the settings. I use the camera mainly for concerts. (most of the concerts are in a smal venue and most of the time it's possible to come really close to the band members) and got some amazing pictures with this camera! thumbs up!

Strength:

Weakness:

Autofocus hunts a bit, doesn't always focus on object or person that you want, even during day, worse at night

This is my first SLR after outgrowing my Fuji P+S. I've shot about 20 rolls of film with it, (85% on Auto) and I've been VERY happy with the results. Crisp, good colour and great detail in a lot of my shots. I've been using exclusively Kodak films (Royal Gold 200, Gold 200 and Max 400, 24 exp) for all my shots so far and have been only disappointed 5 or six times when the AF was hunting or focussed on the more-distant object instead. For the price point and my expectations of the camera, it does its job and then some very well. It is NOT a pro camera but an excellent beginner SLR that grows with you as you learn well into the intermediate stages. No regrets whatsoever.

What? No ISO overide?

This was the ideal camera for me. It packs a very large punch with al,ost all of the features an intermediate photographer could want, till I found out I could not manually select the ISO. How can something come sooooooooo close to being perfect? I had to return it and get a used N70 (which I haven't tried yet).
