Strength:
-Auto program features -User-controlled aperature, shutter, and exposure modes. -Debth of field preview -Built in flash -Remote control -Self-timer -Light -Professional -Easy to read/understand manual -Looks awesome -Good value for the money
Weakness:
-Cannot shoot infared film - but I have never wanted to in the first place. -Lacks minor features found in the higher end "N" Nikon models - not missed though. This camera has it all. I personally use this camera in my everyday shooting for my business and personal use. I have taken it on many trips and I find the ease of use to be fantastic. The auto program modes are wonderful for those of us who like to point and shoot. You have a portrait mode, landscape mode, close up, and a sports mode. Even a neat night mode for those twilight shots. I have used all of these settings and found they each have some wonderful features. My favotire is the portrait mode, because of the blurring of the background without worrying about aperature. However, for us professionals, this camera has it all as well. You can go into different modes to program the shutter speed, exposure or aperature all with the simple turn of a dial. You also have a continuous mode shooting sequence, which will fire off shots very fast. You have a debth of field preview, and the eve piece even adjusts for different vision. I love this camera because its light, its professional quality, and its very compact for an SLR. I also enjoy the features as mentioned above. Of course, you can make this camera perform an array of things with different lenses (one of the beauties of SLR's). And to those lenses, filters, and accessories. Worth a mention - it has an optional remote control for the shutter release! I have not used this, but think it would be great instead of the nifty self timer this camera has as well. I recommend this camera to all of my friends and business partners because of its ease of use, and convienence. Customer Service Nikon has an incredible customer service department. Strength:
simple compact easy to use
Weakness:
no film ISO setting can't use AI/AIS lenses I am a long time manual camera user who wanted an auto focus camera for casual shooting. I wanted something small and simple and the N75 fit those requirements. The body is a bit smaller than a Nikon FM2 and is easy and intuitive to use. The controls are mostly single function buttons/switches that are easy to understand. I got great results from the first roll of film. In contrast, I purchased a Nikon 6006 many years ago which was one of Nikons first generation AF cameras. It was big, noisy and very confusing to operate. It had many buttons and most of them were double functioned. I could never figure out which button did what and I lost a lot of pictures because I was fiddling with the camera instead of taking pictures.. Of course there was always the 150-plus page camera manual I could consult in case I got stuck. I quickly sold it and swore off AF cameras for a long time. Now I’m a happy guy with the N75. Thanks Nikon. Customer Service never needed it Similar Products Used: N6006 (horrible) FM FM2n |

Lacking many features to make it a serious contender for an advanced shooter Great camera for the advanced amateur or a backup for the expert/pro. Allows for manual, semi-manual or full aut operation. Light weight feature rich for the price. Nikon quality you'd expect. |

Strength:
Quality build, controls well layed out, accurate metering and lightweight.
Weakness:
For its intended market and price point, I can't think of anything. I bought this camera about a year ago for my Grandmother, who was still using an old Pentax K1000. She needed a straight forward AF camera that she could operate and would take quality pictures. I myself shoot with a Canon, but Canon's beginner level cameras are horrid in my opinion. After I ordered this little gem and played around with it I am convinced this is the best camera out there for a beginner, hands down. I was very easy for me operate, has all the functions a beginner needs and even has an illuminated disply --which is lacking in the other cameras at this level. Initial photos showed accurate metering and exposure and it handles very well-- it is a little small for me, but just right for my Grandma who's 75. I decided not to get it with a kit lens, but with the Nikon 50mm 1.8, which works very well with this body -- very light and compact. When compared to the other cameras at this level, it simply is far ahead of the rest. Customer Service Did not need Nikon's, but I can say that B&H is great. Auto Focus Availability of Lens Built in Speedlight Built in Light Meter Nikkon Name
Weakness:
Some reviews say this camera is fragile. It is composite and lightweight, but with proper care, I don't think you will have any problems. Great 35mm Camera for Exceptional Value After 2 months of research on cameras and reading hundreds of reviews, especially in photographyreview.com, I decided on the Nikon N75.I can truely state that it is all that, and more!!! I bought the Nikkor 50mm 1.8/D as my starting lens, instead of the usual 28-80 G lens; again based on reviews. This camera is the bomb, it takes excellent pictures and the autofocus modes are so easy; it's amazing. I had a Minolta 35mm in 1977; my Army buddies that worked as Medical Photographers in the Frankfurt, Germany Army hospital mourge recommended it highly.Back in those days there was no auto focus and you had to set all the stuff yourself.Eventually I got the hang of it with a lot of their help. My new N75 includes all their help every time, plus a light meter and built in speedlight flash for $145; and it's a Nikon camera; duh, it's a no brainer for an entry level 35mm SLR.I highly recommend ePhotocraft as the dealer to purchase from; they have excellent customer service. My friends have told me that my camera takes great pictures; it does; but hey, what about the guy behind the lens? Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: 1977 Minolta SLR |

Light-weight Fast, quiet, and accurate AF Accurate AE Multipoint AF select
Weakness:
No manual film ISO adjustment Cheap plastic feel I bought this camera to supplement my N8008, built in the early 90's. After playing with it I decided it would be my main camera. It is light-weight, with a fast AF and very accurate AE. I got the kit lens (28-80mm) and it works very well. Altho it has a cheap feel to it, the images come out tac sharp. I've shot a few rolls of slide film thru it (namely the two Velvia's) and exposure has been dead on, nearly ever time. The autofocus is quiet, fast, and accurate. It's not like the N8008 searching around while making a lot of noise. Another plus is it has five selectable focus points. This makes it much easier to focus on a point other than the center of the camera. Another cool feature of this camera is it unwinds all the film as soon as film is loaded. As pictures are taken, the film is wound back up into the film canister. This is so that if the back cover is accidentally opened not all is lost. A couple other things about this camera; it has some custom settings which would be great if it wasn't necessary to research the manual to set them. Also, this camera has some preprogrammed modes for sports and portraits along with all P, S, A, and M settings. Unfortunately there is no manual film ISO adjustment. I highly recommend this camera. It works very well and it will fulfil your needs as a beginning, intermediate or pro photographer. It has certainly fulfilled mine. Similar Products Used: Canon Rebel Nikon N8008 |

Light Easy to use Price Choice of lenses fast auto-focus not too loud I like the noise when the shutter is pressed :) Nice looking
Weakness:
the batteries.... ouch !!! 2 batteries CR2 ! (ran out after 20-ish rolls) not weather-proof (palstic or carbon body?) I purchased this camera after using the N55. I returned the n55 to walmart and was able to purchase the n75. I was already satisfied by the n55, I knew I would love this one. Since I bought it in January, it does not come out of my backpack, which I bring almost everywhere I go. Similar Products Used: Nikon N55 |

Strength:
Stack of features considering purchase price Good weight - not too light Fast autofocus Very user friendly Great custom settings allowing a little flexibility Wide range of lenses available for it Nikon quality ( shame not made in Japan though - keeps the price low though being made in Thailand ) Quick selection of auto focus zones due to rear mounted selection switch
Weakness:
Slow flash sync ( only 1/90th sec ) Slow continuous frames per second ( only 1.5 fps ) Auto/manual focus switch on front is in dicky position, hard to switch between Would rather it made in Japan than Thailand Can't change film speeds Can't use infared film ( not in any newer Nikon cameras that is ) I recently aquired a brand new N75 ( the American version of the F75 which is identicle ) and it's awesome. It fits well into my large hands ( although the actual right hand grip section could be abit fatter - like the F100 would be good ) and it's weight and balance is pretty well spot on. I have used an 80-200 2.8 AFS lense which became a little front/lens heavy but that's understandable, it happens on all models and cameras - be it Nikon or Canon or whoever. It has some great features for the " intermediate user " market like 12 custom settings, a focus area switch on the rear, auto exposure lock, red superimposing focus area display in the viewfinder - great for dimly lit situations and illuminated LCD ( on the N75 but not sure if the F75 is illuminated ). I purchased the optional MB-18 battery pack which I would defineately suggest to any new buyer as it allows you to use rechargable or even cheap throw away AA batteries ( very handy if you run out, pop into a service station or convenience store and wa-la )and also helps to make the camera feel more comfortable and better weighted in your hand. It also has a vertical shutter release button which is a very handy feature. I may've been persuaded to buy the next model up, the N80/F80, if it had the vertical shutter release ( which is doesn't, tight arse Nikon people ) as I shoot a lot of portraits and vertical waterfalls etc but it doesn't have that feature plus it's also more expensive to buy than the N75/F75. There are a couple of features it DOES LACK which I would like to see on it : like a higher flash sync speed ( only 1/90th - important for good daylight fill flash which wide open aperatures ), a faster " sports mode " continuous frames per second speed ( only 1.5 frames per second is very ordinary - great for photographing snails mating )which is a little slow for most sports situations and the ability to manually change your film speed as opposed to being automatically set by the camera. I suppose if I want all the above extra functions I will have to save up a bit more cash and buy an F100 or ultimately an F5......yep, one day. Oh yeah, and it's a real shame that none of the newer Nikons allow infared film to be used either, I would like to be able to shoot infared in my F65 or N75 but can't because of the infared sensor used in them for film/frame detection. Other than that, I love the F75/N75 model and would happily recommend it to beginners, intermediate users or even the full on pros who want a well priced and well featured back up body. Keep up the good work Nikon, cameras like this will certainly keep me using film. Customer Service None yet touch wood as it is brnad new still, only 3 weeks old ..... price small light can use all the nikkor lenses Ease of use
Weakness:
small light slow fps can't push or pull film I received this camera as a gift after not having an SLR for several years. It is a great camera for starting out the first time or second. You can take it out of the box and get decent to very good snapshots with the auto modes. The metering and autofocus are excellent for most situations. When you want more control it is relatively easy to switch to manual. The autofocus is a little hard to use so i rarely do so. The matrix metering is so good that i typically shoot in program mode so that the camera does the metering and then i can choose the aperature/shutter speed combo that i want. But I've also gotten good shots using the spot meter and full manual and they are easy to use and accurate. The lens it comes with is okay and it is certainly possible to get good shots with it. I also purchased a used 75-300mm lens to complement the small zoom. Getting a good shot has more to do with your ability to see the shot and push the button at the right time than this camera's ability to capture it! For more advanced users the continuous FPS is a little slow, but i have yet to use that function so not a big deal for me. The film speed is selected automatically and there is no manual override, so you can't push or pull your film, again not too big a deal for me. The camera body is small and light, so if you're getting a big zoom or tele lens be sure it has a tripod mount. It is not as rugged as some of the pro bodies, but i like to shoot outdoors and have taken the camera on several long day hikes including a few at Yosemite, and no signs of malfunction. The pop-up flash is adequate, for basic close snapshots. Probably worth getting something you can bounce if you're going to do a lot of low light shots. But good for fill flash. Overall a great camera at a great price. More than adequate for most tasks. Makes it easy for you to concetrate on seeing and catching the good shots. i never get the right focus if i use the auto focus, the battery runs out fast if you use auto focus and flash all the time I have been using Nikon products for the two years. My first camera was N 55. It was great, but sometimes there's an error with it. Last December I bough N 75 and I'm impressive with it. I have shot at least 30 rolls with it and most of the picture I get is good. Customer Service never have a problem with it Similar Products Used: Nikon N 55 |
