-Some buttons do feel a bit flimsy This is simply a nice, little camera that is a joy to use. I spent quite some time researching which camera to buy in this price class, since there are a lot of models from different brands to choose from. What won me over in the end was the feeling of this camera in my hands and the logical placements of all the buttons. Since I use my left eye for looking through the viewfinder the button for selecting the autofocus point is situated a bit awkwardly, just to the right of my nose, but then, I hardly ever use autofocus, prefering to make my own decision of where the camera has to focus. Anyway, in this price class there is not a single camera from any brand that offers a good viewfinder for left eyed people. Pity. Great features, Great electronics, Nikon took professional features from F100 and F5. very easy to use if you used F5 or F100. Built in 3D (monitor-pre) flash. Great AF and Metering
Weakness:
Cheap plastik knobs (Film advance lever, AF selector). Cannot measure with AI-S lenses. expensive batteries. will probably break when falling from 1 foot. slow film advance. noisy and slow AF. need to spend another $40 for strap and batteries (almost 10%!!). Wow! This thing is great even compared to my $2200,- F5! It's got essentially all important F5 features except color metering, viewfinder shutter (for self timer and long-time exposure), exchangable viewfinder, and electronic connections. But it adds REAL 3D (monitor pre-flash) Flash, great viewfinder-illumination of AF sensor selection, and selectable viewfinder reference lines in a small, inconspicous and light-weight body. It's sometimes much easier to use than the F5 too: Try holding the AF/AE lock, DOF button, and the shutter simoultaneously on the F5! Almost impossible (where was that AE button again??), but the N80 has these buttons excactly at the right spot. The viewfinder is easier to use than the F5 viewfinder (bright and fast AF sensor spot displays) and adds a line display for horizon-line-up. The AF indicators are very hard to see on the F5 (slow and very dim) but great on N80. Changing modes is easier than on F5 too: this one has a knob to select; its a slugish two-knob operation on F5. This Camera has everything you want where you want it, but it's built quality is consumer - not professional. It's also slow and noisy when focussing, unless you use AF-S lenses. This is my body of choice when I need light-weight travel photography. I will use my F5 only when I need the speed, reliability (F5 is always a SURE shot - and tells you when it's sick), need to make an impression (wow he's got an F5!!), need the superior color-metering, or need to use my AI-S lenses. Great addition to F5 or F4s in your collection. 1/2 price of F100, plus internal Flash makes it my Camera of choice. Customer Service Great on my F5 - very fast Similar Products Used: F5, F4s, FM2, FE, F(N)60 |

rubber, like an orange- expect peeling in far future Decent midline camera, but other brands (Canon, even Minolta) have models coming soon that have much more performance. What is wrong with trying out the camera and then choosing not to buy it?- some of us have the experience to know what works for them and why- not just favoring a new product for its newness. In terms of speed and performance, it is just average, which these days isn't bad. The focussing motor is still as weak as the N70 and definetely not as quick as an N90s. Nikon has finally made a consumer body that is easy to use, but other brands have been doing that for years. If the N80 uses this much plastic, then it should be cheap. Don't blame anyone if this camera wears out faster than you expected. In this level, please checkout the new Canon and Minolta bodies before you decide which is best for you. Lenses are a different matter- depending on what you use. Similar Products Used: None |

None I am writing this review because I have used this camera for over 4 months now and have had nothing but excellent results with it. I shoot nature/outdoor as well as some wedding work and the quality of the images achieved with the N80 are fantastic. I chuckle at reviews that say, "I went to the camera store and picked up the N80 and tried it in the store" "It didn't feel right to me" I will wait and buy the N90 or F100. Ok fine but why not leave the real reviews of this camera to those of us who actually own it and "use" it. Quite simply, this is a wonderful camera that is priced right. It is worth double what you pay for it. My point is simply this. Its a great camera. Try it, you'll like it, then, you'll LOVE it. Onboard flash works perfectly. Focus/metering is right on. Nice feel, looks similiar to the F100.
Weakness:
Light weight construction After having the chance to check the camera out at a local camera dealer I was not so impressed with the overall build quality. At first site I was very excited with it until I picked it up and pointed it around a little. The multible exposer mode would be a handy feature to have, I currently own the N70 and do find switching modes a bit time consuming. Although I mainly use it in aperature priority for the photograpghy that I do. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to read these reviews because many of them backup my feelings about the camera after handling it, I suppose that I will wait till I have the money together to purchase the N90 instead. I have had the chance to use an N90 that a friend of mine owns, nice build quality and very dependable. Thanks for all the great reviews. Sincerely! Very easy to use, lots of functions for the price, lightweight
Weakness:
None This camera made me go back to photography which I have been ignoring for several years. It has taken me only a couple of rolls to get used to almost all the functions. While I like the lightweight, I would suggest MB-16 battery pack that improves handling. Customer Service Not needed Similar Products Used: Pentax Super Program |
