Strength:

Sturdy, ease of controls, weight, sharp focus, fast, DOF preview, and everything else the above description says.

Weakness:

none so far

The bottom line is........this is a great camera, great price and quality, it's really sturdy (eventhough it was made in thailand) but hey I don't care as long as it takes good pictures, besides from the DOF Preview, this is a quiet camera and it really feels good when you hold it (kind of inspires you to take more picture). I recommend this to all aspiring photographers like me and my fiancee'.

Strength:

Weight, ease of use, excellent lens quality, great for fast shot's, accuracy of exposures, always consistent. Very well made, handling feel is super. Controls are logical and well designed/placed. Viewfinder very bright and focusing details easy to see, diopter correction much appreciated.

Weakness:

Manual not easy to digest quickly, but I am patient, so in time it all came together.

This is my first auto camera, and first Nikon. I am fully satisfied with it's performance, and consider it to have met all my expectations. If something were to happen to this one, I would immediately replace it with another. My lens selections of the 50mm 1.4, 35-70mm 2.8, and 80-200mm 2.8 have been the perfect system for me, and the entire package is a delight to own, and use. I would enthusiastically recommend it to anyone, with full confidence that it would serve their needs completely.

Strength:

Excellent performance for the price. Easy to use - an ideal first SLR. Flexibility in programs means you can learn the camera as you go along and it has enough features to satisfy you right up to semi-pro level. Has many of the features available on the much more expensive F100 and F5.

Weakness:

3D onboard metering not available with non-D lenses, and poor support for non-AF lenses means your choice of secondhand lenses is restricted.
Viewfinder does not give 100% coverage (about 98% I believe), which can cause problems with composition and unnoticed vignetting, particularly using multiple filters with wide-angle lenses.

An excellent mid-range introduction to the world of Nikon. Would warrant 5 stars if it supported older lenses - the money you save on the body (when compared to the F90 or F100) will be absorbed by purchasing new AF-D compatible lenses. This camera does everything I want at the moment, and if I upgrade I suspect it will be to a future midrange digital SLR from Nikon (Please can we have a sub $1000 digital SLR option, Nikon?)

Strength:

Easy to use
Smooth shutter movement
Rapid AF mechanism
Custom functions
Contrasty viewfinder

Weakness:

Build quality - plastic
Built-in flash - low GN
Slow flash sync speed

My current lenses are the Sigma 24mm, Nikkor 85 1.8 and the do-it-all Sigma 28-200 3.5-5.6.
For enthusiast who aspire for but cannot afford the F100/5, this camera gives a hint of the operations of the bigger brothers, except for the non-compatibility with AIS lenses. The rather small handgrip can be improved with the addition of the MB16 (but no vertical shutter release).
Exposures are accurate including flash fill with the built-in or Nikon SBs (the smaller SB-27 is better balanced than the 28 on this camera). The viewfinder brightness is not as expected but contrast is excellent when you got the dioptre settings right. The addition of the AF-On button would be very useful. Other than these, the above 'strengths' and 'weaknesses' would indicate what I feel of this camera. I am still not convinced that this is what I want to keep. With the F90X now on bargain prices, I'll keep my options open. Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and buy the F100.

Strength:

Lots of features for a low price. Particularly like the built in grid screen option

Weakness:

Fragile, my early model had to be serviced several times due to faulty logic circuits causing complete lockout, inexplicable partial rewinds, shutter stutter and red eye reduction light switching itself on even when th cemera wa unattended

I think I had a bad one, other people I know, love this camera. Since the last repair I put around 30 more rolls of film through it, seems OK so far. I decided to use this camera for holiday snaps in future. Not too happy with the focusing performance either, it gets progressively more sluggish as light levels drop to EV 3 or less resulting in some 'lost' shots

Customer Service

Good, but I doint see why this so called Nikon should go wrong so often. In thirty+ years of Nikon use I have never once had a problem with the F2, F3, F5 FM Nikkormats etc

Strength:

Nice weight and feel
Built-in flash
Nice controls (little bit fragile)

Weakness:

Can't use MF lens (not for me)
1/125 sync speed

This is a wonderful camera. You will not find better SLR in this price range - US price not Brazil price.
It is very easy to use even for a novice. The controls are self explanatory and nicely marked.
The view finder is much better than you would expect for the cost - grids lines are avaliable by the custom menu.
Don´t be fooled by the plastic constructions unless you use to throw your camera to the ground as part of your job.
It is nicer to hold all day long than F100 and is capable to get same quality pictures.
It has a built-in flash that is always there when you need it.Some people say it is weak, but it is better to have an weak flash than none. For F100 you need to carry a separate unit too.
Buy this camera - You will love it at first shot.

Customer Service

Strength:

Features for the price. This camera has many features of the profesional camera. Yes the auto focus is slower, but unless you really need the speed, this camera will do the job. The custom functions are really nice, especially the grid that I leave on all the time, I don't notice it's there unless I need it.

Weakness:

I might be nice to be able to add a grip.

Excellent camera for the serious amatuer or beginner hoping to learn how to use a camera and its functions.

Strength:

Very accurate meter,
Grid lines,
Spot meter,
Flash compensation with inbuilt flash,
Rear curtain sync,
Multiple exposures,
DOF preview,
Focus tracking which also works with the new VR lens,
5 AF points, light weight

Weakness:

I don't use MF lenses so not a issue with me.
Many complain about feature they want such as MLU, Metering with Manual lenses etc, but if Nikon is to catch Canon with lens technology then they may have to leave the old manual lenses behind.
The plastic feel, fells like a $500 buck camera. Spend twice that and you do get that metal feel.

This si a cheap camera for the features you do get, yes we all want more but you can't have everything in a $500 buck camera. My wife uses it now and it suites her needs perfect.
I highly recommend this camera to beginners and intermediate photographers and also travel photographers who are looking to go light.
It's no F4 but its still very good
