Strength:

Accurate and fast AF, metering ok, weight ok, handly with optional power grip (without this accesory, is a short and light camera), well balanced, and a lot of features.

Weakness:

For outdoor photography, a little delicate and fragile. With years of work outdoor, it´s body suffer more than other F cameras.
If Nikon engenieers was thougth to put on this camera a manual rewind and a standard shutter cable release... probably this body will be the best for features and price in it´s category.
A thousand of programs only for TOURISTS and KIDS.

Was my first AF body, and I´m very pleased with it. Few years after, I bougth the back MF-26 (utility ok but hungry for batteries). With this back is a body full of posibilities but, please... handly with care because is a PC (personal computer) for make photos.
With manual and AF lenses, ok. The AF is accurate and the metering is good. Is a semi-professional body but, if you handle it with care (cleaning periodically and no falls on the floor), will be ok a lot of years.

Customer Service

Ok, expensive but good... probably because is expensive is good...

Strength:

fast focus

Weakness:

unscrewing the batery tray, removing and inserting 4 AA batteries each in proper polarity, then reinserting and screwing closed the battery tray is tedious

i bought this for its fast auto focus for sports, and it does the job. it has many bells and whistles which i do not need.

Strength:

Durable,

Weakness:

None in six years of use and abuse

I've been a photojournalist for 11 years now. I was a diehard manual camera user until I purchased the N90s. I've used it as my main body for six years. It's been submerged in floods, scorched in fires and has fallen victim to my hurried clumsiness while trying to get from one assignment to the next. The metering, whether with my current 300 f2.8, or my 19-year-old 105f2.5 is on the money. I can shoot chrome or neg depending soley on the camera's metering system with no problems. The 1/3 stop shutter speed selection is great once you get used to it. Mine has gone through thousands of rolls of film in very extreme conditions and had never been in the shop for serious repairs. It looks horrible, but it works perfectly.

Strength:

Excellent build quality, nice feel to it, smooth focusing, multiple exposure modes and loaded with features (many of which I have never used).

Weakness:

Heavy. Can't use a standard cable release. No built in bracketing.

I was hesitant to go AF for a long time. Once I got this I rarely use my MF equipment any more. I got the multi-function back which is great for bracketing, you cant do that with a MF body that quickly. Since Nikon has lots of other AF bodies, like the F100, you can get a good deal on a N90s.

Fast and accurate auto focus.
Well built.

Weakness:

MF-26 back needed for many other options.

Great, well built, professional camera for a low price. I know of many people that use this camera and say nothing but wonderful things about it.

Strength:

This camera is everything you need it to be. Shooting fully automated to fully manual and every where in between. I have a preference for shutter priority and it does very well there. Most of all it's been around. By that I mean that its been out for awhile and the "bugs" are gone for the most part. No compatibility problems w/3rd party equipment, no software glitches...etc. It's autofocus is swift, responsive, and more than most people have a need for.

Weakness:

Only one I experience is that my camera underexposes the ambient light by about a 1/3 of a stop....it's consistent and correctable w/exposure comp.

Buy it...steal it....borrow it and don't return it. Get this camera for you! It's never let me down in all the time I've owned it. It does much more than just gets me by. The focus, fill-flash, exposure just add up to a great picture. Something even more beautiful when backed by Nikkor lenses.

Strength:

Durable, fast accurate AF, great metering, superb fill-flash with SB26,27,28
AA batteries available anywhere
Does NOT eat batteries for breakfast!
Substantial weight

Weakness:

Lack of multiple exposure without additional back
Too many programs of dubious use

A much underappreciated working tool. Has become more and more reasonable in cost since intro. of newer models, but offers more than most and as much as anyone needs.
Mine has travelled to climates ranging from tropical to arctic and never failed me.
Not as tough as the old Konicas of the 70's-80's, but then, I bought a hammer for tent pegs...
Have tried the F5 and F100 and still would choose the F90X (N90S) as the best overall buy on the market.

Strength:

It's the best camera an advanced or serious amateur can buy, with the type of interchangeability with older lenses, flashes and other accessories, it's the right product to invest.

Weakness:

Yet to find one

According to me, if you look forward to have a camera that you want to retire with, believe me , you have found one, also i feel it is going to become a classic camera like Nikon FA on Canon T90

Customer Service

Not servicer in the last five years.

Strength:

Fast focusing-excellent metering.
Really well built. A great buy if you don't really care for top focus speed.

Weakness:

No bracketing or multiple exposures without the additional back.No flash.

It's a great buy if you need a good body but you don't care for top AF. After F100 and F5 were out the price have dropped greatly.Great metering system i just hate the fact that i have to pay extra $ for the back and the flash.
