I bought an OM 2000 twelve years ago. I’m very pleased with my camera especially with its top speed of 1/2000 sec and its spot metering.
Recently I had a problem with it. By pressing the shutter release button the mirror was not moving up. When I removed the lens the process proceeded (mirror up – shutter open and close). Then I noticed that the mirror was about 2 mm offset like if it was slide off its frame and was hitting the lens frame. I pushed the mirror hardly sliding it back to its proper position. I managed that and now the camera operates perfectly.
I seams that the glue or silicone used was not so strong.
If I notice the same phenomenon in the future I guess I have to fix that mirror with a drop of a epoxy glue at its edges.

Strength:

Manual camera, does not need battereies to take a picture.Great asset.Spot metering.Found it easy to learn on,and a metal body.Good sync speed for flash 125 th.

Weakness:

No dedicated flash, just a small add-on.You can't take the shot unless you double check shutter speed setting.I had the exposure that I wanted in the viewfinder only to find out that I can't hand hold for 1 sec. Can't accept a winder.

I bought this camera because of the spot metering,it is dead on when you learn how to use it.I have taken many nice photos with this camera. When you learn how to use the view finder to over and under expose, depending on the situation(backlit or highlighted).Again it takes some time to learn, but the camera produces some beautiful Pics.I am left eye dominate,so get an eyepiece it really helps, because the rewind lever has to be pulled a little away from the camera to turn it on.For a manual camera with spot metering for this price, what's to cry about.Remember nothing is perfect, you have to learn how to use a manual camera.

Strength:

Cheap, Ligh Weight, Spot Meter, Selftimer, Depth-of-field preview, Multiple-exposure, Perfect for someone who want's to realy learn Photogrphy, with all the basic tools.

Weakness:

No way to a plug a Motor Drive, and if you are takin night photos, your'e not able to read the light meter.

If you really want to learn photography thi is the perfect way to start, once you decide this is your hoobie, you will keep this camera and may be, buy a better one, but remember, "The firs cut is the deepest".

Strength:

Relatively cheap, only affordable (less than $1200) NEW OM-mount body.

Higher flash synch speed than other OM's, due to vertical shutter design.

Reasonably solid construction (by today's standards, at least).

Weakness:

Stupid shutter release lock. The wind lever has to be moved out partially to unlock the shutter. I find having the lever poke out like this to be very annoying.

Metering area is rather wide for a "spot" meter.

Plastic back seems rather flimsy. Construction quality falls far short of the old Olympus SLR's like OM-1 and 2 models.

No interchangeable focusing screens or winder capability.

I guess since Olympus cannot be bothered to make their own OM-mount SLR in the low or mid-price segment, this Cosina is all we can expect. I can't really see any reason to buy this when clean OM-1's and OM-2's are available for less money, though. If you really like it, and don't have any Zuiko lenses already, you might as well get the FM-10, which is basically the same Cosina-made camera with a Nikon mount and no spot metering. At least Nikon shows more interest in continuing production of interchangeable-lensed SLR's.

Strength:

Selftimer, Depth-of-field preview, SPOT METERING :-), Multiple-exposure, COMPLETELY MECHANICAL (except for the exposure meter), Image quality of even the standard 35-70 mm lens is excellent. It is also reasonably light. Surprisingly easy to use.

Weakness:

COMPLETELY MECHANICAL (Mind you, I bought it because of THIS). Be prepared to lose a couple shots by the time you get the settings right. Not for the point-and-shoot photographer. You are better of with an automated camera. Under rated -- possibly because of its Cosina-origin. (But then the Nikon FM10 is also made by Cosina)

On a technical level though, NONE. Not even the rather noisy shutter. ;-)

Considering all of its features, including self-timer, DOF preview, multiple-exposure, (in fact all the most commonly used functions) AND Spot metering in the given price, it is an absolute bargain ! The SPOT metering alone will prove to be an invaluable asset on many occasions. You will also never have to worry about the batteries running down at the most inopportune times. On the whole, a great camera for the beginner as well as the expert photographer. If you want to 'learn' photography, this is the camera for you. I would definitely rate it as 'THE' 'Best Buy' in its category.

Mechanical shutter, spot metering, double exposure setting and overall excellent design.

Weakness:

Clumsy shutter lock and noisy shutter.

The best manual camera in it's price range. Spot metering makes it stand out among the rest of the field.

Customer Service

I had a extremely difficult time finding the camera in stock at any store. I also had a extremely bad experience with Cambridge Cameras. They charged my credit card even though they did't have it in stock and said they would credit me and never did. I suggest you avoid them.

Well constructed, comfortable, uses OM mount lenses from previous OM line. Easy to use, accurate meter, spot meter, and multiple exposure. Mirror lock-up possible using timer.

Weakness:

Can't use all OM accessories, and no PC terminal. Shutter button lock was inconvenient, but can be turned over to relieve the problem.

Good solid, usable body by itself, or to compliment other Bodies in the OM line

Customer Service

Called them for a case and they said only available if the "kit" was purchased. I only bought the body, as I have several lenses, and accessories

High Qhaility manual camera Uses full range of Zuiko lenses

Weakness:

After advancing film the lever must be allowed to stand free or the release button or it will lock it in place and the next shot you take will be missed. this locking of the release button is a real pest. Acheap solution to the problem for the manufacturer but a pest to a user.

this camera is a gift for the quality and the price. the shutter is noisy and clunky but for the price, I can live with it. I bought this camera as the electronic Olympus cameras I had used to run out of battery power at the most inconvenient times. It was intended to be used as a back up. Bright finder, accurate shutter all in all a very nice users camera. I picked the Olympus range of cameras so I could use the Zuikio lenses, which seem to have a colour charm all or their own. Easily equal to Leitz lenses. Certainly not inferior. This camera uses all of them and they are pretty good value for money these days.

Customer Service

No problem so far with this camera but other Olympus cameras have played up on me and I have never had any real difficulty in getting them serviced
