Strength:

Ease of use. Everyone I know who has ever used one has loved it, and won't hesitate to say so. Plenty of good quality, inexpensive second-hand Supers around.

Weakness:

Lacks auto-focus, which would be the only reason I'd ever want another camera.

I began using the ME Super as a novice, and even without knowing how to operate a manual SLR this camera gave me stunning results. It's ease of use is phenomenal. I currently own two ME Super camera bodies, which I use interchangeably. They haveshot beautiful landscapes, gorgeous portraits and fantastic wedding pictures. They have been taken out in freezing weather and humid conditions, knocked and shaken and used extensively, and despite their 'fair' second-hand condition, they just won't die.

Strength:

Reliable, metal construction, small and easily pocketable, can choose from hundreds of new and used K-mount lens for this camera.

Weakness:

None but old age and Pentax doesn't support it anymore.

I've had mine since 1982, and have shot more than a hundred rolls of film on it. The only bad pictures I have taken have been my fault not the camera's. Took it to Niagara Falls about 2years ago and got it wet on a tour under the falls, the electronics stopped working and I thought it was time to buy a new camera, used the 1/125 mechanical shutter speed to shoot my last rolls. Got it home, dried it out and everything was back to normal. Still bought a Pentax ZX-L as a replacement, and use both cameras now. About 5 years ago the film started to intermitently slip off the takeup sprocket and jam during advancing (about 1 out of every 10 rolls). It seemed to happen when I didn't use the camera for a couple of weeks. So now I try to work the advance lever a little when I'm not using it, this seems to help. Still takes excellent pictures for being 21 years old. Their are plenty of used ones to be found, but I would not recommend buying a 21 year old camera unless it has been checked by a camera tech.

Customer Service

Never used it for this camera, but called for information on the ZX-L and they always were responsive.

Strength:

simple, Good SMC lense line up. small.

Weakness:

excellent value for money, even Its small and simple body made it easy to carry anywhere else. I used it for 3years without major problem. but my only complain is that it is hard to see shutter speed in a dark scene, because it hasn't dial shutter knob or LCD screen.

Strength:

Versitile Solid feel 1/2000 max shutter speed

Weakness:

the split prism focusing lens is hard to use at times. Can be replaced if you can find a used "mat" focus lens.

What an excellent camera! I bought my ME Super new while I was in the service, the first year it came out. Paid $99.00 for the camera body and $50.00 for the 50mm F1.7 lens. I have had it cleaned twice and have taken hundreds of pictures between Hawaii and the east coast. Very versitile! Used it at a concert once with a Sunpak 611 and Kodak 64 asa slide film, and it took excellent pictures! Very light weight and compact with a solid feel. I am only saddened by it now because the shutter button is malfunctioning and I need to either repair it my self or buy another one used. I think I'll try my hand at fixing it.

Strength:

Ease of use Robust sophistication Lack of pretence Versatility Good (standard) lenses still available Flash synch If it was a watch it would have been Swiss Suitable for aggressive three-year olds as well as professionals

Weakness:

Not made any more This is the weakness that rescues the title of this paragraph

An amazing piece of machinery. I had one one, my first and as yet last serious camera, between about '93 and 2001. It was taken from me by armed hospitality representatives in an allyway in Lisbon. I was gutted. Fortunately, I was using a tele-lens at the time and therefore still have the SMC. I've now found a body and will be buying it before the week is out. And I'm really looking forward to it. The ME Super takes great pictures in the hands of an amateur, but it's so forgiving towards its handler and at the same time tough and resilient that you could let your three-year old use it with very little tuition and even he'd come home smiling. It's fun to use. I am absolutely convinced that this camera should be used by anyone who gets the opportunity to do so and that it will will go down in the history books along with the pinhole.

Customer Service

That's a concept that hadn't been invented when the ME Super came out, so it wasn't designed to need any.

Metal Construction Ease of operation Manual or AE modes Exposure Compensation

Weakness:

None that I can find

One of the Great Ones !! Included Pentax 50mm 1.2 lens and Sunpak Auto 221D dedicated flash. This camera had been stored for some time and used very little since purchase in 1983. Looks new, works like new. I average shooting 3 or more rolls of film per Month on outdoor/special events/sports etc. I have found this camera great in all situations. The metal construction feels solid and reliable. Works good in both auto and manual modes. I have had no problem with the Shutter buttons, but can see how someone with large hands could be handicapped by this feature. The exposure compensation is peerless. If you can find one in good condition ..grab it !! parts and accessories very available and affordable. I plan to use this one for many years to come..

Strength:

Push button shutterspeed, visible through the eye piece, durable, simple, and feature packed.

Weakness:

Not a single one.

Wow! What can be said about the single best camera ever built. I bought one to take a photography class with in high school, 14 years ago. Used it to learn all the basics and then moved on to more advanced work. All with the same camera. If it's not on this camera you don't need it, and don't gripe to me about auto-focus! You don't really need it. Bit small? So am I, the camera feels great, not like those Nikon beasts you see today. Lenses are everywhere and they are cheap. Got a little more money buy the SMC lenses, don't have a fortune to spend, the after market lenses are pretty d*** good too. Get on eBay, get a ME Super, and shoot for the love of photography.

Strength:

-Has a multiprism/split screen focusing for people with weak eyesight. -Extremely simple operations -Price! - Will work without batteries (only at 1/125) -Built like a tank.

Weakness:

-Have to look at the lens to see the aperature setting (no window in viewfinder). -Reliance on electronics to change shutter speed instead of the classic dial. -Can''t switch focusing screen as far as I know.

At first I had reservations getting a camera that had any "auto" features at all, but after scoring this mint one from a lady who just wanted to sell all her husband''s stuff, I was converted. Bottom line: These things come cheap, and they last long. Find one in good shape and you''ll stay happy/take great pics for many years to come.

Weakness:

This is by far the best camera I''ve ever used. I work in a camera shop and try to learn all the new bells and whistles all the new cameras have, but nothing beats a fully manual camera. It has everything one could want. I highly recommend it to anyone, from students to professionals. Plus on Ebay they''re friggin cheap

Strength:

Light and compact. 1/2000 top speed. Flash sync at 1/125. EXCELLENT speed select pushbuttons. Handy exposure info LEDs in viewfinder.

Weakness:

Lack of DOF preview. AE compensation in 1 EV steps. Can´t see aperture in finder like in MX, for instance.

A superb mid-range camera. I had one from 1990 to 1995, and ¨upgraded¨ to a P5. Some improvements, and several drawbacks. So I decided to get another ME Super, which I feel very comfortable with.

Customer Service

No need for it.
