Canon ELPH LT 260 APS

Canon ELPH LT 260 APS

DESCRIPTION

This new model strengthens Canon’s existing line of ELPH-series cameras by providing many of the features offered by Canon’s original ELPH camera. Strength:

small size, good optics, decent zoom

Weakness:

can't change cassettes mid-roll

Not a bad little camera. I would've gone for the better Elph model, but the wallet said go for the LT260.

I took it on a trip to Bermuda for some landscape shots and the results were pretty good for such a little camera. A steady hold produced some good shots even on VERY windy days.

The only thing that really cheesed me about the camera is that you can swap cassettes mid-roll, but unlike other Elph models (like the better one I should've bought), you can't put the first roll back in and keep shooting. When you take it out, it's done. I found this out the hard way and lost nearly a whole roll. This seems like a software thing - why the hell Canon couldn't program it to accept a half-exposed roll is beyond me. Grrr.

Aside from that big - and in my mind completely unnecessary - inconvenience, it's a good little camera. The mid-roll screw-up costs it a star though.

Strength:

Lightweight, easy to carry anywhere, easy loading.

Weakness:

Redeye is a common problem. View finder shows less than what's actually captured on film. This is a major fault, in my opinion, but with more use, you will learn to take this into account.

I was debating between a compact, light APS camera and a honkin' Nikon Rebel, and convenience won out over quality. I went on vacation shortly after buying this camera, but I was quite disappointed when I got my photos back: the camera picks up much more on film than what's shown in the viewfinder, a big letdown. I took what would've been a great panoramic shot in the desert, but the print had way too much extra crap that I didn't see in the viewfinder. BOOOOO!!! I still like the camera because of its ease of use and compactness, but Canon should have corrected this problem before releasing it to its retailers.

Strength:

very small, lightweight.

Weakness:

bad quality of pictures, night-time function is awful, not much of a flash

i bought this camera because i wanted to know what all the fuss is about when it comes to aps cameras. Knowing Canon has a good reputation, i bought the Canon Elph. This was a mistake! The quality of the pictures was worse than my Nikon, and i think it's due partly to the film. i find 35mm much better, but hey, who knows? perhaps it's not. If you're going to spend this money on a camera, then dont buy this one. there are much better ones out there.

Strength:

Small and lightweight, neat little zoom.

Weakness:

Batteries don't last long but, I suppose, considering what it does.

I bought this camera for my wife since she hated bulking the SLR's I have around with her whenever she wanted to take pictures. Like some have already stated the flash is pretty weak and you need A LOT of light for decent pictures. All the toys are neat but keep the manual with you for a while until you figure it all out. We were both a bit disappointed with the pictures it takes but a camera this size isn't supposed to take the worlds best pictures, this is the 35mm arena. Definitely shop around on price, we bought this one when it first came out. Do yourself a favor, before buying this camera please hold, look, and get the feel of it somewhere first. My fingers are a bit too big for the LT 260's little buttons and such. If you are looking for a somewhat cheap, price-wise, camera with APS and don't expect to get world-renowned pictures with it, it's a neat little camera

Strength:

The size and simplicity of the camera are it's biggest selling points. The picture quality is so good that you don't even need to utilize some of the limited controls offered.

Weakness:

I haven't had any problems personally, but I've heard the retractable flash is prone to breaking down.

It's a great camera to bring along on a vacation. It's so small it will fit in my front jeans pocket so it's always available for shots of friends and family. As opposed to the large bag for my 35mm SLR that I would normally leave in the hotel room when going to dinner. The zoom works well enough to get some nice scenery shots. Keep in mind, APS works on a 24mm format, so multiply the mm by 1.25 to get the equivalent of a 35mm format camera. It will not fit everyones needs, but for a point and shoot it's great. I'm looking forward to trying the updated version, the 370z.

I haven't tried another APS camera yet; however, Konica supposedly has a nice product line of APS's.

Strength:

Easy to use, great features and results. I like the zoom and the date/time stamp, red-eye reduction.

Weakness:

None

I really like this camera. The features I was looking for were compact size, date/time stamp, red-eye reduction, and zoom. It also needed to be easy to use. All these criteria are met in the ELPH 260Z. So far, I have had 3 rolls of film developed and the pictures are great. The only problems I have encountered are due to my error. Due to the small size of the camera and the fact that it is so lightweight the photographer needs to take extra caution to hold the camera steady. I had a couple of shots that were blurry. The only other problem that I have encountered is that I have missed some great shots because the subject moved while the camera was focusing itself. This is probably my error, too. This could probably be corrected if I kept the button partially depressed while I waited for the perfect moment and then pushed it down at the exact instant I wanted the shot. All in all, I am glad I purchased this camera and think with time and practice I will perfect my picture taking skills. And I am well pleased with the quality of the pictures taken with this camera.
