Konica Minolta Vectis 300 APS Camera APS

DESCRIPTION

Minolta’s Vectis 300 BEAM is one great-looking compact camera. It combines Advanced Photo System technology, a powerful 3x zoom lens (approx. 30-87.5mm in the conventional 35mm format), and a host of high-performance features into a sleek and shimmering, stainless steel body.

I've had this camera for almost 2 years now and I absolutely love it. Never had the problems with it that others are mentioning and the shop where I get my photos developed come out beautifully!

Strength:

Metal casing.ease of use, lovely looker, makes it a great talking point.

Weakness:

Softness on distance shots.

Minolta Vectis 300-a superb little camera. It takes good indoor flash shots, great panoramic shots outdoors, with just a hint of softness on distance subjects.A very easy camera to use, with no glaring faults or problems. On one day's hikimg last summer(2002) we left my Nikon f60 behind but the Vectis300 performed admirably, taking some lovely panoramic shots in Dorset,England.I'd recommend it to anyone.

Strength:

Compact, sleek (James Bond style) well built over all.

Weakness:

Battery life, sometimes it has to flash 3 times before pic is taken, most people dont know that, so they think the pic is taken after the first flash and the original pose is gone!

This is an excellent camera, I wish it came with a camera pouch because now the inside of my lens is dirty and is hard to see because it has lint and dirt from my pockets! arggggghhhhhhhh

Strength:

Small, durable, sleek looks, good picture quality.

Weakness:

Needs a lot of light, battery drain, customer support.

The camera is suitable for the person that would like to have an ultra small camera that fits in any pocket. The picture quality outdoors is very good and there are other aspects with the camera that i like sutch as quality and looks. The best thing about this camera is its size though. The enourmous need for light is as i expected in a small camera, huge. This is true for many other P&S cameras as well.

Customer Service

Poor customer service. Takes a month to repair here in Norway.

Strength:

compact, elegant, nice features, reasonable price

Weakness:

The camera functioned well for only 11 months from purchase. Afterwards the lens would automatically withdraw or the camera would shut off by itself. Sent in to Minolta for repair but they could not find a fault and returned the camera back. Tried using it again and would not rewind film automatically. Tried manual rewind but could not replace with fresh roll of film as the film chamber would not close.

Don't get fooled by the good looks!

Customer Service

Had repairs done without success once. The camera is being repaired for a second time.

Strength:

Good size, classy look

Weakness:

I am still experiencing problems with the picture quality. Pictures tend to be too dark at night. Resolution is very good, but only in good lighting conditions

Beautiful camera, however, it is not as easy to use as Minolta says. Better loaded with APS ISO 400, even on sunlight.

Strength:

Stainless steel shell, pocket size, easy to use...

Weakness:

Doesn't have mid roll change

This camera is fantastic for the average user... carry it in your pocket, photo quality is fantastic - every picture I have taken with this has come out great - excellent colours etc... The main thing to remember is to keep the camera still when you take pictures - I use the timer whenever I can - just balance the camera on a rock or tree or wall or whatever is around! This way the camera is still, and pictures don't come out blurred.
This is the best camera I have ever owned...
Cost about $525 Australian, pricey, but compared to the competition is OK...

Model Reviewed: Vectis 300 APS Camera

Strength:

Sleek appearance; stainless steel body, small size, APS film convenience, 3 photo aspect ratios.

Weakness:

APS film.

I like the small - fit in your pocket - size of this camera. The high-tech looking stainless steel body is rather attractive as well.

I’m very disappointed in the camera’s inability to take quality photographs. I don’t know if this is a limitation of APS film, but so far every photo I have taken has come out distorted and with poor color balance and contrast. An example of the distortions are a car or motorcycle wheel appearing egg shaped rather than round. I would attribute this to a poor quality lens. Color balance and contrast could be a lighting or film problem. I have tried using this camera in several situations and with different brands of film. Every picture has come out with green colors appearing more yellow and either too much contrast or too little (washed-out).

I’ll still use this camera for general point and shoot photography. But if a quality picture is desired I cannot recommend it.

Strength:

Great size, attractive "retor" look, good zoom abilities.

Weakness:

Problems taking indoor photos with low light, problems also with zoom and flash together.

Yes, the compact size is alluring, but this camera has problems. I LOVED this camera when I first got it, about sixteen months ago. Takes great pictures outside and great zoom capabilities. Major problems taking any indoor photos (i.e at weddings, forget about it!) or using the zoom with the flash, the photos are blurry, fuzzy and dark. Sometimes I notice if you press the zoom and then lightly press the "picture" buttom, it will somewhat alleviate the blurry night time problem.

Also, sadly after a mere 16 months, my camera has broken, same problem as someone else I read: it automatically opens and shuts when off and on. Instead of getting it repaired I'm going to get a new camera. I think the poor photo quality has something to do the with APS film. I'm going back to regular film and a larger P&S camera -- even if it means going bigger and less compact, the quality of my photos demand that I do so!

Bottom line: Great size, great daytime outdoor pictures. If you're ever going to take pictures indoors with low light or use the flash, FORGET IT!
