Nikon Pronea S APS

Nikon Pronea S APS

DESCRIPTION

The technology of a serious camera. The spontaneity of a point-and-shoot. Now you don't have to choose between the two. The Nikon Pronea S is the best of both worlds. Serious camera technology. Compact size. Three picture formats. Interchangeable zoom lenses. At 16 ounces, it's one of the biggest things to happen to picture taking.

Strength:

I bought this system for my wife to travel with in Egypt. It is excellent all round - she got some stunning pictures in all sorts of conditions. Flash works well and the whol;e camera is suited for travel. Light weight and the ability to accept Nikon system lenses is great. We now have 3 Pronea bodies in addition to our 35mm system. My wife does not use the 35mm stuff now as this camera is excellent for her uses and the quility is up there with 35mm. Use a good D@P facility as it can make all the difference.

Weakness:

Would like a hot shoe for an extra flash. However Nikon make a slave adapter for this camera that works with the inbuilt system.

Buy one you wont regret it, a super little camera that has been durable and reliable - 5 long trips to Egypt and about 100 films per body and no problems

Strength:

Lightweight, APS, features, accepts other Nikkor lenses.

Weakness:

I question the durability. No hot shoe. APS format, I'm still not convinced compared to 35mm. Auto focus does not work well in difficult light. Action shots that turn out are great, but seldom seem to be captured even with shutter priority mode selected.

If you are looking for a good travel camera that you won't notice due to its weight, you can't go wrong. Nice features although the body seems really small in the hand. Chose your film processor wisely as I have experienced grainy pictures and then really outstanding pictures on following roll with similar shooting atmosphere but different developers.

Strength:

Light weighted.
Small APS SLR camera
Quite beautiful design.
can use other Nikkor AF/D lenses.
Enough features for travel.

Weakness:

Plastic seems not durable.
Cannot use very long Nikkor lens with built-in flash: black corner effect will happened.
No hot-shoe for additional flash light.
Ugly appearence when use with other non-IX Nikkor lenses.
Can print date in front of photos only in limited shops.

Good for travel when ordinary P&S's quality don't make you happy enough. Familiar control if you're a SLR user. A stand-by camera for your Nikon 35mm SLR.

Good optics
Flexibility in modes

Weakness:

As big as a 35mm

Overall, I am very impressed with the quality of the shots from this camera. Far better than my previous Fuji APS and better still than my Pentax mm. A little pricey and a little big, but it is worth it with the quality prints.

Nikon name and rep.

Weakness:

size= too small for a man's hand. Controls difficult to use. Limited options on film speed.

The main problem was not with the quality of pictures, they were superb. The camera was just to small for my hands, making it very difficult to manipulate the controls. Returned it and got a Minolta Maxxum STsi. With 35mm, I can get 1,000 asa color film, with the pronea format, 400. It just isn't flexible enough for me. Using telephoto lenses of approx. f/4, the speed is needed. Film processing and the film itself is cheaper with the 35mm as well. I found your reviews excellent and a tremendous help. The Minolta Maxxum stsi just offered so much more flexibility that I had to get it and return the Pronea, even though I got the Pronea for $207.

Strength:

Easy to use, pictures are great--interchangable lenses a great benefit to the APS system

Weakness:

cost--dosen't come with a case or strap and finding the Pronea S case it hard to do.

I think this is a great camera for beginners. It's easy to use, weighs miniscule and is perfect for trips.Interchangeable lenses is the reason I purchased it....The best of both worlds. SLR and APS

Strength:

Nice range of features, compact and very sturdy camera body, and ability to use other standard Nikon lenses.

Weakness:

Nikon could have provided a better zoom lens at this price point.

As far as consumer cameras go, this is a great camera. Fast autofocus, ability to use standard Nikon lenses, attractive and strong camera body all add up to a nice little package. Camera settings are fairly easy to change on the fly and Mid-Roll Change means you won't get stuck with the wrong film at any given time. Brought it on my vacation to Cuba and the shots were fantastic. Again, watch out for the camera's relatively short zoom range.

Strength:

Small and lightweight SLR. Nice to have 3 sizes of prints to choose from. Seems to have accurate light meter and camera is well built.

Weakness:

Camera is all plastic and standard lens is not all that sharp but is good travel camera for non-professional situations.

Nice little camera but does not deliver more than snapshot quallity.

Customer Service

none. Camera works as intended.
