Strength:

-picture quality -size

Weakness:

-auto advance -the carrying loop broke the 1st week -not easy to grip camera ; stainless in slippery

it take good pictures, but i have had a on-going problem with it skipping frames when going through its auto film advancement. it takes the first 4-6 frames and then skips to the last 4-6, leaving approximately 16 frames blank / unexposed. Does anyone know were it can be repaired? I really like the picture quality.

Strength:

Excellent picture quality for an APS camera Build integrity & durability a level above the rest Good zoom Great lens Simple to use Comforable size Coolness factor (it is cool looking, even for an APS camera.)

Weakness:

Crummy wrist chain/strap that is garunteed to break.

Rollei, if you ask me, makes some of the best cameras money can buy. The QZ being my favorite, the Nano has to be a close second. I''ve generally looked down on APS cameras for their inferior picture quality (smaller negatives) , but the Nano takes such consistently excellent pictures (whether it be indoors or outdoors) , I now take my Nano with me wherever I go. I am quite surprised with the excellent colour variation, sharp focusing (thanks in part to the excellent lens), and the terrific zoom. Is an automatic camera allowed to be this good? I should also mention this camera is about as durable as they come. I''ve had the wrist strap break (it may be pretty, but it''s not durable at all) , and the camera fall to the tile floor, surviving the impact, only to survive another fall when a friend knocked it off of a coffee table accidentally. Despite this abuse, it still works as well as the day I bought it. I would reccomend this camera to anyone looking for a fun camera they can take anywhere with them, and still get high quality results, so you won''t be hurting for your professional camera back at home if an unexpected photographic moment occurs. It may be pricey, but you''ll get your money''s worth out of this camera.

Strength:

Very sharp photos - no blurriness. Great design. Compact. Easy to use and well-placed controls. Excellent camera.

Weakness:

The jewelry-type metal cord/stap may prove fragile in the long run, but is easily replaced if necessary. (It looks great though!)

I love this camera. The pictures are very sharp, which is my primary concern. Color is outstanding. Just for fun I shot comparative pictures outdoors, one with no flash, and one with fill flash. The fill flash feature produced flawlessly lit subjects. The design of the buttons is simple and straightforward. Compared to the other APS I have used, there is no comparison. I paid $270 and would pay it again in a heartbeat. This is the one to buy.

Strength:

- Very sharp pictures (Main reason why I chose this camera). I just took some 200+ pictures on a trip to Italy and I think there are only two which were slightly blurry. Much better than any other point and shoot I have used. (Used Fuji Sensia 100 and 400 film, grey market, B&H photo)
- Tiny and Light. Take it anywhere, and still take very good pictures.
- Possibility of changing film mid roll
- Flash is quite adequate when you don't use the zoom. (The F number goes through the roof with any of these small point and shoots, and you really can only use the flash when you don't zoom)
- The tiny battery lasts longer than I thought. I have shot about 7 40 exposure rolls and rewound 5 or 10 times to change film and no problems yet.

Weakness:

There are many small annoyances about this camera, but in the end, since it takes such nice pictures, I can live with all of them:
- Buttons feel a little cheap (metallized plastic)
- Viewfinder is blurry (even though it has diopter adjustment)
- Focus lock is very hard to hold. It is quite difficult to depress the shutter halfway without snapping a picture.
- Date imprint button is 'live' when the camera is off. I took a number of photos when I realized the date imprint function was turned on. This happened because the button was getting depressed in my pocket, even though the camera was off. In the end I was able to have the developers not print the date on the photos (APS!) and all was well. Still annoying.
- Camera strap is poorly designed. It is made of metal links with a nylon fiber core, not unlike some jewelery chains. Other reivewers warned me that it may break, so I pulled on it as hard I could before trusting it. I could not break it however. The chain snaps onto the camera with a nifty little spring lock mechanism. Unfortunately this makes the chain stick out perpendiculary to the camera, making it hard to put into my belt holster. After a while I noticed that the locking mechanism became loose, as it was becoming bent. My strap never came off, but I will not trust it to hold the camera. Unfortunately you cannot substitute another type of strap since the connection mechanism will not allow you to attach a keyring/string.
- Leather camera case is junk. The zipper derails constantly. The strap is very hard to get through the hole, and it just does not fit very well. I was aware of this from other reviews and bought a nice little thing from Eagle Creek called the get out pouch. http://www.eaglecreek.com/travel_accessories/40111.html
It holds the camera almost perfectly and it fits onto your belt or over your shoulder.
- Flash is very close to the lens, major red eye potential. The red eye reduction feature is a white LED which is not terribly bright.
- The film rewind is pretty noisy, but that is ok with APS, since you always know exactly when you have one picture left, and you just don't shoot that one when you cannot afford the rewind noise.

You will not regret buying this camera simply because it takes such excellent pictures. It costs a little more than other makes, and it may have a few ergonomic design flaws, but the optics are excellent and that is what counts. For a change I took it on a trip instead of my back breaking SLR and lenses. It is true that I was not able to take every wide angle or low light shot I would have liked, but the ease of having the little Rollei on my belt where ever I went more than made up for it. I changed often between 100 and 400 film and now have excellent pictures of my trip. I had tested the camera out before I left and found that the flash is inadequate when the zoom is being used (probably true for any point and shoot). I still took some pictures inside of dimly lit churches and I the results are much better than I expected.

Customer Service

Not tried yet, though I like the 3 year warranty. I suppose I'll be able to get a new strap and case, but they will likely be of the same quality.

Strength:

Great little camera -- little is the key word here, its absolutely tiny. I can easy carry it in any pocket. I frequently find myself carrying it in my hand, it so small its not a bother at all and I can quickly respond to any picture taking needs.

I like all the ASP features, especially the mid-roll change. I frequently swap rolls of film from my Rollei to my Minolta Vectis S-1. I can also easily change film speeds from ISO-100 to ISO-400.

The lens is great and take super sharp pictures. The 28 - 80mm zoom almost exactly match the zoom on my SLR.

Weakness:

The wrist strap is a piece of JUNK. Mine broke almost the first day I had it. I can't understand why shuch a poorly engineer strap was put on an otherwise wonderful camera. A piece of string would have worked better. I now use it quite successfully without the strap (you don't really need it).

Great little camera. If you've got the money, buy one. I got mine for $219.00 and its worth every penny.

Compact. Zoom. Mid roll Change. Sharp pitures with good realistic colors.

Weakness:

none yet.

I have standard 35mm Canon Rebel and a Minolta 35mm as well as a Minolta freedom 140mm zoom but none of these are small cameras. I thought of getting a rollei prego70/ or stylus80 but I wanted mid roll change also.
This camera gives nice sharp photos. The controls are well laid out and easy to use without a clip or long nails. The flash is very good- up to 16ft @asa 100. The zoom works well and smoothly and is 3x. Recycle tim of flash about 5-6seconds faster would have been better but the photo's come out o well.

This camera has all the desireable features I wanted-Zoom, Mid roll change, Small, Easy to use and tavel with. It takes sharp, well colored photos.

for a compact point and shoot APS camera with excellent optics, the Rollei Nano 80 can't be beat! It does cost more but well worth every penny.

Light weight.
Vibrant colors.
Takes decent pix under difficult lighting situations.
Good button layout.
Easy to use.

Weakness:

Outlines of objects fussy

This little camera is very well constructed, light, and easy to use. After reading many great reviews, I placed an order for a Nano 80 in early July of 2000. Very few online camera stores carry this model. Rollei was not able to supply the US market with enough Nano 80s in the summer of 2000. I waited 3 months to receive the camera. Customer service at Rollei Corp was not able to offer any help at all. I was disappointed when my first set of pictures came out. The colors were vibrant but the outlines of objects appeared to be fussy in more than 1/3 of the pictures.

Weakness:

Included Case, Chintzy Wrist Strap

This camera has got to be one of the best APS point and shoot products out there. I came back from a trip to Mexico and decided that a camera would have benefitted me. Decided to go the APS route because the digital offerings were not quite where I wanted them to be given the current price structure. Perhaps soon I will pick one of those up too.

This camera takes great photos better than some SLRs that I have used before. It is not as intuitive as the ELPH but I am a sucker for European products from Swiss Army to Volvo to Benz to Rollei.

I have to recommend this camera for the first timer all the way to the seasoned photographer that wants a well-made and compact package. One weakness about the wrist strap, which to me is important, can be fixed by getting another woven strap from a cell phone and affixing it to the camera. More reassuring.

Good stuff, Rollei!!! Keep it up.
