Strength:

-Modular system flexibility -Price -great optics

Weakness:

So far nothing worth mentioning.

The ETRSi system is by far the best system for the money. I researched the Hassy, great camera, too much money. Mamiya, flash sych speed too slow. The Bronica solved both those issues with a good price and leaf shutter lenses. I use it for weddings and family portraits mainly and it has given me flawless performance so far!

Strength:

Durability. Very, Very good lenses. Rugged. Simplicity. Good viewfinders. Backs quite reliable. Good metering with AE II. Easy to handle compared most medium format wedding cameras.

Weakness:

Hardly any automation. Hard to line up backs with AE II Viewfinder on. Too many wires hooking flash with camera and bat. pack. Have gotten in front of lens.

This is a boat anchor. I have dropped it, kicked, and run enormous amounts of film through it. Like the bunny it just keeps on going and going. I got the body, prism, PE 75mm and back through the PX in the early 90s for $1500. We have done a lot of weddings together. I have bought to other lenses and additional backs. My pictures blow up beautifully. I do most of my wedding work with 75 and 50mm. I have a back up ETRS body that I bought amost new for $350. It is your basic wedding camera. I do flash with vivitar 283 on stroboframe. I figure flash fill in my head and don''t use the TTL that I have. I sell a lot of pictures. This assembly of stuff works very well. The lenses are great. I wish for auto focus when I can''t see and hate loading film backs in the middle of a wedding. Have I found anything better that doesn''t cost three times as much. No, emphatically no. The camera realiably makes money for me. I am very good operating it manually and seldom miss on exposure with or without flash. My Bronica reliably makes money for me.

Customer Service

In all these years I have not used it. Although I have have an older(non PE) lens that needs repair.

The most advanced Canon 35mm. What a contrast. My pictures are just as good with all the manual stuff I do with Bronica.

Strength:

Light, reliable, sharp lenses, interchangeable backs, prizms, and inexpensive.Oh yeah did I mention you could probably save money by using a 6x4.5 system vs. 6x6 system. We(the guys at the photo lab and I)calculated around 1500 to 2000 a year on film"thats a pretty nice stay at a hotel for a long weekend"since you shoot 30 exposures instead of 24.I also love the leaf shutter that lets me syncronyze the flash at any shutter speed wiht the ambient light.

Weakness:

If you photograph weddings you will find it hard to put 4x5 album together without rotating the album vert. and horz. The way around that is to go to albums that can handle 4x5 and 5x5 prints in the same sleave.I also wish Bronica-Tamron would start making a autofocus 6x4.5 and 6x6 camera,Ithink it''s about time!

The camera is light & easy to use.If you are familiar wiht a 35mm,you''ll find this format a snap to use.If you use it with a flash ,try(Strobeframe)model that the camera flips from horizontal to vertical without having to move the flash. The lenses are sharp and inexpensive compared to other cameras and systems in the same category.Great system for beginers to advanced photographers.

Customer Service

Exelent,if you send it to the manufacturer.

Strength:

Reliable basic film holder! TIP: buy an ETRSi (kit), 75mm, finder & back off the web FROM THE UK FOR AROUND $1000 US!!!!!!!!

Weakness:

Older MC glass soft compaired to the zooms, AE II prism eats batteries, the new AE III is brilliant kit though. Buy the speedgrip rather than the motor drive, the motor only hinders the use of the mirror lock up function as the mirror stays locked up until you release it (unlike the Blad 500CM).

Buy this camera for the NEW (Tamrom Designed) glass, namely the zooms - 45-90mm & SUPERB 100-220. The 100-220 is as sharp as ANY other MF glass I've used (even the German stuff). The 100-220 is truely wonderfull wide open!!!

Customer Service

Only used Intro-Photo (UK Importer)- FIRST RATE. I mailed my broken (dropped) kit to them from Alaska. Very reasonable repair costs. VERY fast.

Model Reviewed: ETR-Si Medium Format Body

Strength:

Real workhorse of a camera, have used two systems for 7 years which I purchased used (ETR, ETRSI)and just recently developed a problem with the lens. But otherwise has always been reliable and produced excellent quality images (MC Lens).

Weakness:

Cumbersome to carry on a long day shooting weddings, but better than some medium formats. Spring in lens seems to be a problem after a while.

Great workhorse of a camera and parts can be purchased very reasonably.

Customer Service

Only needed to contact once for diopter. Appeared to be very cooperative.

Strength:

A WORK HORSE of a camera. I've been shooting weddings with the same camera for 5 years. The 90 and 150 lenses are sharp and easy to focus. Stay away from the 40mm f/4 lense, its very difficult to fucus, I have to use distance setting for fucusing reference with that lense. It can be tricky sometimes.

The camera and other lenses have been great money makers for me.

Weakness:

The Zenzanon 40mm f/4 lense.

If you're looking for good, solid, effective equipment, this is it.

Strength:

After learning the leaf shutter system, I was able to expand my client base. The ETRSi system is great and affordable with super optics. I was able to get into the new system and a fractio of the cost of the other brands.

Weakness:

I really have not encountered any yet.

With sharp images from the new 45-90, 105 macro and 100-220 lenses. I'm very pleased with my choice.

Customer Service

Have not had to use them.

Strength:

Systems camera. An excellent range of lenes and accessories. Flash sync at all shutter speeds, great for wedding photography. Zenzanon-PE lenes are very sharp.

Weakness:

I have had no problems with this camera from the day of purchase, wich has been about five years.

This is a excellent camera to use. I have photographed formal weddings in Malaysia and Australia. This camera has never let me down. It's been to outback Australia where you can cook an egg on the hood of your car to the snow fields in New South Wales and the Bronica never missed a beat. When the trannies of the 645 format arrive on the light box, you will be blown away. Excellent medium format systems camera.
