Strength:

Great lens. Easy action. Handles well. very good at what it does, I love it.

Weakness:

I found that sometimes the film did not wind on tight enough which gave me streaks after processing. Fixed this by keeping a finger on the left spool whilst winding to the arrow.

If you can live with the limitations this is a great camera. Sometimes having a fixed lens is very liberating.

Customer Service

Could be better.

Strength:

NEGATIVE SIZE AND SHAPE 2X3 PROPORTIONS, EXCELLENT LENS SHARPNESS, SIMPLE OPERATION,QUICK HANDLING FOR THIS SIZE. LIGHT WIEGHT!! THE OTHER REVIEWERS MUST BE COMPARING THIS TO SMALL FORMAT CAMERAS. ALSO IT DOES STOP DOWN TO F32.

Weakness:

AFTER MUCH USE FILM ADVANCE FAILED.

ACCEPTING THE LIMITATIONS OF NO METER, LENS OBSCURES ABOUT 1/5 OF IMAGE IN VIEWFINDER W/65 ( I OWN BOTH THE 65 AND THE 90) YOU GET A FABULOUS, SHARP, LARGE, AND SHAPELY NEGATIVE IN AN EASY TO HANDLE CAMERA FOR NOT MUCH MONEY CONSIDERING FORMAT SIZE. THE GSWII IS BETTER BUILT, GSWIII HAS BETTER FILM SPOOL EJECTION SYSTEM. ALSO PAY ATTENTION TO FILM ROLL COUNTER (X10).

Strength:

That lens! It is an excellent ---really excellent lens. I bought it with the 65mm W/A. Agfa APX 100 developed in Rodinal yields superb negatives.
The 28mm lens/35mm format look combined with that big gorgeous 6x9 size.

Weakness:

For its purpose and price, none.

This is, in essence, a great lens welded onto and ok body. That's fine with me.
I have used this camera as a poor man's panoramic camera. The neg is big enough that you can crop top and bottom turning it into a 1:2 aspect ratio camera [4.5 x 9] or even 1:2.5 [3.5 x 9] and still make fine quality 18" wide panoramic images.
I hold a finger on the supply side when loading and have had no film tension problems.
I find the 6x9 format well suited to the 65mm wide angle lens. However, if you want the 90mm "normal" lens I believe the 6x7 body would be a better match (to both the lens' angle of view and, of course to 8x10 and 16x20 paper.)
Those who miss a meter might consider a Gossen Pilot. It's a photoelectric (needs no batteries), weighs about 1.5 oz. and will slide on the camera's accessory shoe.
Also, I am not one to normally recommend filters for protection---but--- the front element on the 65 is very vulnerable. A MULTICOATED UV or 1A from B&W, Heliopan or Hoya is not a bad idea.
Unlike others, I find inability to see shutter sppeds and aperture setting with the hood retracted a plus. I pull out the hood and remove the lens cap in one motion. I've shot only two frames with the cap on... so far :-)...it's easy to do if you're accustomed to SLRs.
The body feels fine to me in shape, surface tactile and weight. Shutter sounds cheezy when it fires, tho.
Anyway, Bottom Line : It's a good value. I like it a lot and use it a lot and I'm very pleased with the results.

La camara es muy buena, un poco fastidioso es el enfocar.. pero la recomiendo, es muy liviana y facil de manipular, da la comodidad que no se puede tener con una 6X6 por ejemplo.. como la Hasselbald..

Model Reviewed: GW-690III 6x9 Medium Format Camera

Strength:

This is a totally basic, reliable camera capable of taking fine pictures. The fact that it was all mechanical with no built in exposure meter was fine for my purposes. My only quibble was the depth of field scale was a bit skimpy. Also I would have liked the lens to stop down to f32, if not f45.

Weakness:

None whatsoever.

The Fuji delivered perfectly in what it represented itself to be. I ultimately traded it in because it was too heavy and bulky , particularly considering it had but one lens. Fuji some years ago made a variant of this camera with three interchangeable lenses, but it was even more heavy and bulky and the range of lenses was limited. What I would like to see is a 645 range finder with a range of interchangeable lenses from 35mm to 200mm.

Strength:

It is a sturdy, well built machine that
produces superior quality negatives.
I have the super wide angle version.
I can put a whole room on one picture!
I am a police crime lab photographer,
and this camera truely crams the most
possible space into one picture. I also
use it for personal work, mostly land-
scape photography.

Weakness:

I dislike the fact that one cannot
make intentional double exposures.
The camera is heavy compared to any
35mm you may have handled. I also
dislike the fact that on a time
exposure you must chanage the
speed to close the shutter. It does
not close automatically, so to prevent
blurring you must cover the lens then
change the speed setting or move the
film advance lever.

Produces beautiful large negatives. There is some difficulty in getting the full negative
printed. Many places want to print it in a 6x7 or 6x8 carrier, so you loose the benefit
of the large negative. We had to buy a 6x9 carrier to use for work related photos in
the police lab, but my personal photographs have been an inconvenience to have
printed. You should keep the neck strap on at all times to prevent dropping the
camera. It is heavy, and not as ergomic as the Fuji 645 models which we also use. I am
extremely pleased with this series of cameras-the 6x7 and two 6x9s. I use the camera
for work and fine art photography--landscapes, buildings, etc.
