Strength:

Build Quality, Superb Lens System(schneider), motor drive with other automation

Weakness:

High price lens and accessories. NO rental station at all.

This is the best 6x6 there is, even though system accessories are not cheap but Great lens with typical german engineering tough body. I do believe now is the time to get this camera. Rollei has most aggressive promotion ever.

Strength:

I bought this camera primarily due to the recomendations on this sight. REALLY glad I did. Best design of any medium format. Almost as easy to use as my F4, F5. Great lens, very ergonomical. Unlike some of the others, I've never had a problem with the battery (I always carry 2)

Weakness:

Hard to read LED's in strong light. (too small) but I use a hand held meter for everything anyway. Heavy and exspensive but that usually comes with quality.

If price is not too much an issue, then this is the camera for you. I am absolutely tickeled that I purchased this camera. BTW, the 180mm Schneider is wonderful. No other medium format will give you all these features in an ergonomical package. I have hardly touched my Nikons since I bought it. It's way too much fun! Buy it. Just close your eyes and sign the check.

Owned Hassey's (NOT ergonomical) and used almost every thing else in medium format. Mamiya (good but too big) Bronica (too plastic feeling).

Strength:

Built in multi-mode metering. Excellent lenses from both Schneider and Zeiss. Brilliant darkslide design. Good waist level and chimney viewfinders. Good viewfinder display. Fastest motordrive of medium format cameras (not very useful though). Excellent ergonomics. Excellent grip design. Innovative Master Control Unit. Electronic lens coupling ensures compatibility with macro, bellows, rings, whatever. 1/3 stop control. Shutter to 30 seconds. Very elegant user interface, although poorly documented.

Weakness:

Customer service, price in the US, Weak rental network, reliance on battery. Uneven frame spacing. Mediocre prismfinders. Poor user's manual.

Excellent camera, well worth the money. It has a few weaknesses, but I guess one could learn to live around them. In the US, these cameras are overpriced, and it is probably better to buy from the UK or elsewhere. But if you do this (and save thousands of dollars), Rollei USA will not honor any warranty. Rollei has not yet come up with a clean worldwide warranty that is actually honored worldwide. However you can send the equipment back to UK/Germany, and they do take care of the stuff well.

The camera operates more like a 35mm camera than a medium format camera - changing the film is simple, winding is motorized, darkslides can't be lost, you cannot remove the back without the slide being in place. You can set the camera to program, focus and shoot. Or you can spotmeter, lock up the mirror and shoot. You can attach fancy remote controls, macro rings/bellows or anything else that catches your fancy without losing the automation. The camera seems formidable in its specsheet, but is pleasantly easy to use.

Do not ever buy the 90 degree finder. It is the worst viewfinder I've seen, any format, any price. It is dim and has significant barrel distortion. The 45 is better, but the waist level (or chimney) wins.

All MF equipment is poor value for money - so my rating for value is 3. For Hasselblad, it would be 1.

Customer Service

Lousy. If you buy a camera outside the US, even the International warranty is not honored here...

Strength:

Great Design and Features, Well Made, A Pleasure to use

Weakness:

None

I have been shooting for many years and have used all the different med. format brands. All have their pluses and minuses, but I must say that this 6008i is the nicest camera I have ever used in Med. Format. I wish I had discovered it sooner. It is soo well thought out, that you find yourself saying 'what a great idea" once you discover a new feature. It is definitely a true pro's camera. The only neg is that it's not cheap and hard to find rental lenses but absolutely outstanding Camera. If you are shopping for a new medium format, do yourself a favor and check one out. Finally, the square format is not dead and very cool to work with.
