Strength:

nice metal body

Weakness:

red eye flash, over exposed pictures, large in size

A little dispointed. I bought this camera for my sister''s birthday. I assume it is a trouble free camera with great performance. I own minilux and M6 myself and I have great confidence with Leica lenses. C1 gets alot of red eyes, over exposed, out of focus pix for my sister. I used C1 for a while to testify my sister complains. C1 over meter on most of pictures, red eyes with most flash shots. Of course I have seen some worse pix, but Leica C1 needs to do better than that.

Strength:

Cute

Weakness:

BAD METER SYSTEM RED EYE IN MOST ALL FLASH PHOTOGRAPHS LENS NOT SHARP, OR IN FOCUS.

I bought this camera for my wife so she could have a camera of her own. I wanted to get her a camera that would take great pictures.the flash has no red eye reduction at all. the pictures are not exposed properly. I thought Leica was a good brand name with good quality. Very disappointed with the C1. I am so unhappy with the camera that Leica is going to trade it in and sell me a Minilux Zoom .I would rather them give me my $350.00 back.

Best Point and Shoot Camera I have ever owned. Picture Quality, Clor, Sharpness better than I expected. I took over 250 shots on a recent trip to China and Korea. Every single shot was perfect! People who see these pictures are amazed at the quality. It makes me feel great.

Strength:

Elegant, sturdy, very sharp

Weakness:

Only ordinary manual-override features; somewhat pricey

An elegant camera that handles and works very well. I just examined a roll of slides I took (200-speed Fujichrome) under a 12x loupe; they''re as sharp as you can get with fast film, and about as well exposed as you can get without hand-metering. Sure, it''s slow, but if you want a pocketable 35-105 zoom, that''s the price you pay. And it does have a tripod screw and allows time exposures.

Strength:

Good optics at all zoom lenghts
Easy to catch movement
Fast motordrive

Weakness:

viewfinder could be better (z2x finder is better)

you feel quality and you see quality on your pics. Even frames are great, considering the small optics. Haven't used my Nikon SLR since buying this gem

Strength:

*) Fine optics -- crisp 8x10's from hand-held ISO 400 negatives. I haven't compared it to my Nikon F4/Velvia work, but that's not P&S turf anyway.
*) Simple layout instead of 1,000 useless options. All the important P&S options are intuitive and easy to set.
*) Compact, pocketable.
*) Click/focus/shoot takes about 1/4 second -- fast for a P&S, fast enough to avoid leaden expressions and missed action sequences.
*) GN 40 (feet) flash is adequate with ISO 400 negative film. I got good dancing (action) shots in a dimly lit Texas honkytonk from 20 feet away, though I'd done the math before shooting and determined I was just wasting film. Excellent AF in marginal light.

Weakness:

*) Viewfinder is small and dim, but usable.
*) f10 at 105mm (common among P&S).
*) Shutter button needs a tactile surface to make it easier to find without looking.

I should probably wait until I've worked with this camera for a few months, but enthusiasm got the better of me. The C1 is a fine camera that will be going to a lot of fun events that an F4/zoom/SB-27 flash would not be invited to.

Similar Products Used:

*) Canon 105 SureShot -- mediocre optics and verrry slow to focus/shoot after pushing the shutter.
*) Pentax 90 WR -- decent optics, but too big for real convenience.

Took this camera up the Alps. It produced great pics... much easier to use than SLR's, especially if weight is a constraining factor. Great camera for explorers!!

Strength:

Built like a tank. It doesnt feel like a toy as compared to my other plastic Point and shoot cameras. It is the best point and shoot I have ever used and owned. It is light, sturdy, and has a strong flash. It takes better pictures than some SLRs that I have used before

Weakness:

Price.

If you can afford it, buy it. My first roll of film produced some very spectacular shots. The colors are bright and sharp. Not to metion that it looks very classy, not like the other cheap looking toys in the market.

Customer Service

Not yet tried, but the Leica store I went to was very helpful.

Strength:

Good optics, good exposure choices (print film).

Weakness:

Slide film overexposed by 1/2 stop. Expensive.

This is a good point and shoot camera but not nearly as good as suggested by other reviewers. When I did exhaustive tests with slide film using the C1 and the Olympus 115, the difference in sharpness with the C1 had to be carefully searched for with a loupe and was only visible in the extra small details. It is not the equal of good 35mm SLR glass.

Exposure, contrast, color, and mechanicals were even for both cameras. The C1 is not weather resistent and lacks diopter adjustment. The five step zoom was actually faster to use than the normal continuous versions.

All in all, the substantially cheaper Olympus P&S does as good a job as the C1. If that last fraction of one percent difference is really needed, get the C1 or, better still, use full-size 35mm glass. Three stars because it really is a nice camera but not really worth paying almost twice as much.
