Strength:

Quick focus Good pictures Great closeups

Weakness:

Does not save settings Broke down after 1.5 years Only one place in US that repairs Minox This model is not repairable

Good focus, good pictures, but will not save flash settings - once you turn it off, you lose the flash setting. Also - broke down after 1.5 years - only one place in the US repairs Minox - and for this model they do not do any repairs - full replacement with more or less equivalent product if under warranty or at a discount if not.

My wife and I were looking for a camera to take with us on our trip to Hawaii. I can't say how happy we are with this camera. Skin tones come out warm and natural. All of our outdoor pics came out crisp and clear. A great all around p&s.

Strength:

Great Zoom, Sharp pictures, panorama format.

Weakness:

Not a continuous zoom.

Bought this as a replacement for an elph I gave away, was looking for something smallish with good zoom and panaroma format - this is what I bought and so far I have not been dissapointed, barring the fact that the zoom only has five positions - I have continous zoom on my digital camera.

Strength:

Extremely sharp pictures; glass lens; excellent battery life; self-timer; red-eye reduction for flash; flash fill settings; great zoom (35-140). Setting for panoramic shots. Very solid,well-made feel.

Weakness:

If you're not careful going between normal and panoramic settings, you may end up with a bit of a horizontal black border on photos...but it actually enhanced a couple on which this happened.

Liked it so much I bought a second for use with B&W. Exceptional value and quality for the price, and I'm very pleased with the "look" of the pix this camera turns out. I bought one before leaving on a 4-week trip to Scotland where I used it as my only camera and was very happy with the results. The other cameras I use are a Nikon FM (20+ years old) and a Nikon F3HP. But those are big/bulky so when I want a camera I can just put in my pocket and trust the results I'll get, I highly recommend the Minox CD140.

Strength:

Sharp lens
Maximum zoom
Quality construction

Weakness:

Small viewfinder (to look at what you are shooting) takes a little bit to get used to.

The Minox CD 140 is probably in the top 5 of all point-and-shoot cameras with a long zoom.

It's easy for a complete beginner to use, but has light controls for the more advanced photographer (macro, panorama, flash cancel, etc.). There is no manual aperture setting or other controls like this, but do you really want/need that in a point and shoot camera?

I own the date back version of this casera and am very happy with its overall performance. I *really* wanted to get a Leica C1, but am glad I did not - no point. The Leica versions at this end of the point and shoots are overpriced for the same or lower quality as this Minox with its Minoctar lens. Sharp and crisp photos.

Another very important part of this camera that peopel overlook is that it is NOT a step zoom. This means that the zoom does not move in preset settings. E.g., on the Leica C1 you can only zoom to 38, 50, 75, 90, etc. With this Minox you can zoom to ANY distance between 38 and 140.

The camera also ha an excellent "feel" to it. Some point and shoot cameras feel so cheap (plastic doodads) and others are so "slick" that they feel tinny. Not this one. It is made of high quality material and there is a part made of grip rubber that helps you get a great grip on the camera (visible on left side of the camera picture - looks like a black half-moon).

The other features: Active infrared autofocus, Maximum zoom range, Automatic flash, Preflash for red-eye reduction, Quality lens, etc. are all excellent.

There is ONLY one weakness I can think of: Small viewfinder (to look at what you are shooting). This takes a little getting used to, but is simple enough. This is the ONLY drawback.

I also own a higher-end Nikon SLR and Minolta SLR, but this is my back-up point and shoot "fun" camera. I *strongly* recommend this camera. I did a LOT fo research on point and shoots before buying this one. Again, I am very glad I bought this one. You will be too.

Customer Service

Strength:

Crisp clear pictures, easy to use zoom. Has panoramic, and close up modes.

Weakness:

The red eye option has to be reset each time the camera is turned on. (Very annoying)

I really enjoy using this camera. I mainly use it for outdoor shots, and most always get compliments on the clarity of the pictures. I feel it is definately worth the money. As I said the only downfall is the red eye that has to be reset.
