Pentax IQ Zoom/Espio 120Mi Point and Shoot

Pentax IQ Zoom/Espio 120Mi Point and Shoot

DESCRIPTION

The small size of the IQZoom 120Mi disguises its capabilities. The 38mm-120mm power zoom lens possesses an automatic zoom macro ability. A passive 5-point autofocus system allows you to shoot multiple subjects with confidence and the multi-pattern metering system provides optimum exposure even in difficult light conditions. A compact camera to express rather than inhibit your creativity.

Model Reviewed: IQZoom/Espio 120Mi

Strength:

Super small metal body, super sharp + contrasty lens, superb metering, super quiet shutter and film advance.

Weakness:

Lens a bit slow.

This 35mm, 38-120 zoom is a little bigger than a Cannon APS Elph! I get 36 for 36 perfect exposures on slide film (!) probably due to the 6 segment metering. It is just too quiet. And the lens is as sharp and contrasty as my single focal length Nikons. (But the color is more saturated on the Pentax!) This camera is spectacular and I love it. I'd love to see a 28-90 version. You just can't take a bad photo with this thing. And you usually have it with you.

Strength:

Almost as small as a canon elph2,look attractive, easy to use, LCD panel light up for night shooting, panorama switch, light in weight.

Weakness:

Haven't found any yet, but it does cost a bit.

The main reason I bought this camera is because it look attractive. It's design is small and the silver color makes it look durable and it is. It's like buying a car, you first like the looks then the specs comes second. Also, it's easy to use, my wife learned it in couple minutes and she know nothing about cameras. Couple people mention about the zoom being a little slow, but I find it just perfect, at less for normal everyday consumer use. I mean, if your looking for fast zoom you should be looking for SLR and not point & shoot. The picture quality are clear and good. But then again, keep in mind that you must know how to use the camera or any camera correctly and your film developer must do a good processing job to get good prints. Overall, I recommend this camera to anyone. It does cost a bit, but you get what you pay for and its worth the money, at less to me.

Strength:

Handsome design, perfect size, nice zoom power, sturdy metal frame, great controls.

Weakness:

goes through batteries faster than you would expect.

This is probably the best point and shoot camera I've seen in my year working at various camera stores. I love the size and controls, and I've gotten back great pictures. A more powerful zoom wouldn't hurt this camera, though.

Strength:

Size (extra small !), sturdy solid metall case, correct exposure metering (especialy outdoors).

Weakness:

No spot metering (only focusing), slow lens & focusing, noisy zoom, weight (not so light as you may suppose), upper buttons hard to use.

Perfect P&S Zoom camera ! Outdoor pictures, especialy macro looks just great. Small size is very useful, becouse you can easily put this camera into pocket and go everywhere and take picture at any moment you wants.
The lens is a little slow and noisy, but this didn't affect much pictures you shot. Very correct exposure metering for outdoors and macros, with this camera I can normaly use ISO 100 films. Of course, as many others P&S this camera not very suitable for indoor photography, therefore it can take good pictures with proper films (ISO 400 & 800) too. The ergonomy and design are good, but not perfect - small buttons on camera upper side (above LCD) aren't very useful, becouse too small and hard to push.
Summary : "must have" camera ! If you are looking for small P&S Zoom, probadly this one is the best choice available right now !
I give 4.5 stars for value and as 5 overall !

Strength:

--superb metering
--passive auto focus
--6 segment metering
--very small package
--metal case
--kit comes with remote and pouch

Weakness:

--f12 at the long end

I primarily shoot with Nikon SLRs, but I needed something to carry around that would fit in a pocket. This camera is the answer. The metering has proven to be superb. The lens is very sharp and performs well indoors and out. However, I would caution people against using the long end of the zoom range in low-light conditions.

I've pumped about 10 rolls of film through it now and have consistently gotten very good results. If you want a small reliable camera that'll produce great photos, this is it.

The price.

I am very happy with this great camera.
Until now only perfect pictures and sharp.
Flash is very good and red eyes reduction works good.
I love the small size, i can take it with me everywhere.
The price in Europe is a little bit high, but considering the performance its OK.

clear, sharp pictures!!

Weakness:

none!

I have shot one roll of Fuji 400 film through my camera so far and couldn't be happier!!! The pictures were clear, sharp, color vivid, all keepers. The red-eye reduction worked well on all people pictures and consists of one pre-flash vs. Minolta's 2-3 that everyone complains about. It is relatively light for all of the options it has, yet fills solid. It is a nice small size, fits well in the hand, an all-around great product. Consumer Report gives Pentax high marks for reliability so plan to enjoy this camera for some time to come.

I bought this camera for $350 AUS after reading many reviews on this web site and also after talking to camera shop staff. I agree with the excellent rating given by all the other reviewers.
This camera was bought after 30yrs of considering my wife and I to be less than average photographers. We took it to Bali and shot 4 x 36 plus 1 x 24. The photos were brilliant. The only poor shots were our fault and we are learning what causes the problems and it is us. The zoom is sufficient for most occasions. My wife even took some surf shots in poor lighting conditions The pictures turned out perfectly. All the function worked well, red eye reduction, flash night shots, flash fill in and the remote infra-red trigger was great. Friends bought the same camera with us and had exactly the same results. This is a great point and shoot camera. If it fails later down the track I will by another. I would strongly recommend this camera to anyone wishing a reasonably priced excellent camera. I save $80 AUS by not buying the date version. I don't think that the date model is worth the additional money.

Smart & stylish,
accurate focus system,

Weakness:

slow zoom in&out,
no wide angle support

This is a great & fanstatic camera, the small and durable body with the great 120m Zoom give us great flexibility and sharp pic.

I realised there is a replacement model for 120MI which can support wide angle as well, the camera also lighter than 120MI and the speed of the Zoom in & out is improved as well (i've tested it at the shop).

I ve taken more around 15*36 (200/400) on Kodak film and develop using Kodak Royal Paper, the result was good but now the shop offer me to upgrade from my 120MI to 120W so is there anyone out there had ever tried on the new 120W, if yes,do give me some advise which one to go...

Thank You!

Strength:

Sharp pictures compared to other P&H cameras, looks like a very expensive camera (small and metal body), great flash options, diopter, intelligent metering, up to 1 min shutter speed.

Weakness:

Easy for dust to go to the zoom lens from outside (but we can blow it easily), f12 at 120mm zoom.

I just bought it last week and put 2 rolls of film (one 200 and one 400). The results are great for both. The night pictures are so clear and sharp for the 400 Fuji superia 400. It has a very super small size and design. Only Contax T3 body is more beautiful. I would say that the better cameras are only Leicas (C1,Minilux Zoom) in this zoom class. I can carry it all the time because of this super small size. The panel illuminator is automatically turned on in the dark with beautiful light blue color. This zoom camera gives me very sharp pictures.
