Strength:
1.) light but the small hand grip make it easy to hald. 2.) compensation dial is an excellent design, unlike other highend P&S, you don''t have to read out the compensation setting from the LCD display especially when the LCD doesn''t offer the backlight. 3.) Great Lens 4.) Flash is easy to handling 5.) the real pocket size makes you can carry it anytime, everywhere. The above strengths make you can ensure the camera setting in dim area or rush.
Weakness:
1.) Lens distrotion I found this camera offers much more reasonable handling after I bought the Contax T3. Customer Service no need. but I really appricate the 3 year warranty provided. Similar Products Used: Contax T3 |

Strength:
Size. Weight. Lens Quality. Build Quality.
Weakness:
Small viewfinder (for people with glasses). Lack of ISO selection (or manual setting). This little gem is becoming one of favourite cameras of all time. This camera was bought for a round the world trip to supplement my G gear, and I found myself using this much more than I expected, exposing almost as many rolls as the G gear. The quality of this product is one of its key strengths. Although not a professional build by any measure, it is a durable and well built camera. The body feels great in the hand. Many of my friends have commented that this camera does not look its price, and that is something that is good, especially for a traveller. Theives probably want to steal some flashy SLR with lots of logos painted everywhere, rather than this small, unassuming little camera. The lens quality is good. Although there have been varied comments about the performance of this lens, for what it does, it is exceptional. I used both negs and trans on this camera, and in all instances, the film turned out to be sharp, well exposed, and free from distortion. Although there is slight vignetting (mainly an issue of optics and physics I imagine). I would highly recommend this camera to anyone who is looking for a superb P&S, and also someone who is looking for a P&S to supplement their SLR or normal gear. It is a great camera to have on you at all time. Similar Products Used: Contax G1, G2. Mamiya 7. |

Strength:
28mm focal length, excellent lens, accurate meter and autofocus, solid body. Thin! Winds all film out of casette and then winds it back in as you take shots. Thus, if you inadvertently upon the back, your exposed frames are protected.
Weakness:
Ugly, no warranty in USA, easy to accidentally push "on" button in your pocket even while it is in the case. One of the few P&S cameras with an excellent 28mm lens. Meter and focus are both accurate. Excellent for street and outdoor photography. Cast magnesium body is durable. Not a pretty camera, but excellent results. Not distributed in the USA, so you will have to buy from UK or gray market. Customer Service Not used. Not available in US Similar Products Used: Nikon 35ti, Yashica T4, Leica Minilux, Olympus Stylus Epic, Canon Sureshot. |

Strength:
The lens..love the 28/2.8mm......images produced are fantastic...especialy B&W street/people shots... The size...easy to put in your pocket and take along. material...magnesium body feels great & strong... Indoor shots with use of flash look very good.... different modes work fine & easy...the whole thing works very easy.
Weakness:
It''s not good for stealth shooting. when you put in a new film ,wich will be transported to the end of the roll before the first frame , it makes the sound of an old coffee grinder Not specified enough wich shutterspeed it uses...just approx.. Viewfinder info not clear in sunny situations.. no iso manual overide loud transport to next frame in low light situations , for measuring distance the GR1 fires a red beam onto the subject wich is kinda harsh.. no focus setting for IR film... About 2 weeks ago I purchased this thing.I wanted to have a small enough camera to take with me anythime & everywhere. The GR1 s is just that.Never again to miss a photo oportunity Just after purchase I was having seconds thoughts...Gr1s was loud. uptill now I''v shot 5 rolls with it... The first roll of color film I got back from the lab where somewhat disapointing not bad , but nothing special aswell.. But than I processed my pic''s from some B&W film''s.....Amazing... the lens produces images with a lot of atmosphere... I am sold Customer Service Not yet needed Similar Products Used: Konica Hexar Black & Silver (my favorites for stealth photography , but a bit to big to have in your pocket ) Nikon SLR stuff.. various vintage cam''s.Olympus penn , yashica electro , ect. |

Strength:
Very compact while still having usable control buttons. On-off switch for flash. Mid roll film changing: you can choose to let the camera leave the film lip showing! Just press two times on the pre-rewind button instead of once.
Weakness:
Too much unreadable info in viewfinder. Aperture and compensation dials without locks: they tend to rotate without you knowing it resulting in wrong exposures. It''s a lottery. Either you''re lucky and you get a good one and then the picture quality is amazing. Or, like me, you get a GR 1 where the lens production tolerances weren''t respected (it is a tiny piece if glass!) and you only get Ok pictures. This explains the wildly diffrenet reviews, here and in the mags... Customer Service ? Similar Products Used: SLR''s, Leica''s, Yashica T5, Rollei 35S, Rollei Micron |

Strength:
Don't let the fact that this is not a 'compact zoom' put you off... the results from the GR1s are stunning, the lens is so good you can crop into the frame and enlarge afterwards and still get better results!
Weakness:
Hardly any - the poor visibility of the viewfinder speed readouts in bright light is the worst problem, but can easily be overcome. I was put off this camera initially because it wasn't a zoom lens, now i realise that designers have to make too many compromises when designing compact zoom lenses - you're bound to end up with a very slow optic that vignettes at the edges, only suitable for print film. I have been amazed at the results from this lens with transparency film and now realise that it's better to crop into a stunningly sharp prime lens image than use a second rate zoom. Strength:
Sharp Lens, exposure compensation function, and "Time" mode (not "bulb"). Solid construction, too.
Weakness:
Autofocus is not so fast. I'm plesed to use this camera. I'm a slide photographer, so exposure compasation function is very useful. "Time" mode is also very useful to take the picture of night sean. As some people mention, autofoucus is slow and doesn't react to certain subjects. However, no AF camera in the world is perfect. AF is not good at catch a low contarast subject. Chainging modes is a solution. Especially for landscape photo, small aperture (large number of F stop) and infinity mode are good enough. Customer Service When I sent them my camera for reparing, they explained the problem and estimated the fixing cost quickly. It's not the Ricoh's customer service, but a Ricoh's agent in charge of this job. Sorry I foget the name, but I think you can get at the Ricoh's web site. Similar Products Used: Olympus Stylus Epic |

Strength:
small, sharp fast lense, manual aperature settings, flash off switch, exposure information displayed in viewfinder, metal body, accepts filters (GR1s)
Weakness:
loud motor, have noticed some wide angle distortion in some city / street photos (due to 28mm) One of the only remaining reasonable priced (though more expensive than most) very compact, 35mm P&S with top notch lense, metal body and manual adjustments. Great camera for landscapes, street shots and even indoors group shots. With fast film, indoor no flash shots work well. Make sure the 28mm lense is right for you (there is a big difference between 35mm and 28mm). May not have the color saturation of the T4, under some conditions. All in all, a beautiful compact camera with many excellent features. Customer Service ? Similar Products Used: Canon Elph Jr. and Elph 2, Olympus Stylus Epic, Yashica T4 |

None! It´s the only compact camera with the features that I wanted! If you think the autofocus is slow, buy a modern SLR!
