Strength:

Versatile, many settings and flash modes with just 2 buttons

Weakness:

Poor focusing, pictures blurred

For the price range, this camera is versatile with many settings & flash modes. But what good is it if the pictures come out blurred?

Customer Service

I didn't bother to call.

pic quality similar to disposable cameras. I've used fuji, canon, but would rather stick to my SLR (a Pentax)

Strength:

It is compact (as are most point and shoots) and it looks good (not really important in the overall scheme of picture taking).

Weakness:

The resulting pictures are slightly out of focus and are a little dark.

I have had this camera for approximately 3 years and with it I have taken numerous rolls of pictures (~60). Definitively, I have reached the conclusion that this camera is just, well, bad.
In the beginning, I thought maybe I was using incorrect film (100 vs 200 vs 400) with the lighting or type of photo (outdoors vs indoors vs portraits) conditions. However, after comparing this camera with other P&S cameras I have realized that it was the Maxima Zoom 105 that was inadequate and not my picture taking skills. Throughout my experience using this camera I have noticed two shortcomings. The first is the lack of sharp focusing. The second is the pictures come out dark (even under good lighting conditions, proper film and the correct settings). This is not to say that ALL of my pictures have been awful. I have noticed that outdoor pictures with a lot of light have turned out decently. Overall, I have been disappointed with this camera. I believe any person who really cares about the quality of their pictures should avoid purchasing/using the Samsung Maxima Zoom 105.

Strength:

I've had the Maxima Zoom 105 camera for almost 6 years now. It has been a very good camera and easy to use. It has also been very rugged and withstood some pretty good shocks.

Weakness:

The pictures taken when zoomed out are often out of focus. It is very frustrating since I just noticed this after taking close to 40 rolls of film while in Hong Kong and China. Close to 10-15% of my photos came back too blurred to even keep, while another 20-35% were blurry, but I wanted to keep since it was my only picture of a sight. Very disappointing.

Also, I have had trouble off and on with the motor retracting the lens. It has had problems either extending the lens or pulling it back on several occassions.

I am now looking for a new camera. After losing some once in a lifetime pictures, I am very disappointed. Previous photos had often came back blurry, but I thought it was my doing. This trip has finally identified it to be a design flaw.

Strength:

Good price with lots of features. I had a previous Samsung camera and was well pleased

Weakness:

Pictures sometimes are out of focus when the zoom is used. Happened when I first used the camera - at my daughters college graduation. Very poor pictures in great outdoor light. I took the camera and out of focus pictures back to the dealer and he gave me a new one. The new one had the same problem - out of focus pictures when using the zoom. But not every time, probably 30 - 40% of the time.

Do not buy this camera - very risky. Poor results. Some Samsung cameras are probaly fine, but this model apparently has a problem.

Customer Service

Reasonably fast response by e-mail, however they would not replace the camera. The dealer went out of business. I'm stuck with a useless camera.

Strength:

This camera offered the features I wanted most (panorama, zoom, 35mm) at a very good price. But I fell in love with the flash and exposure settings of the camera. I took this camera on a vacation in Los Angelas. I have never taken such wonderful photographs in my life. This camera really made the different for me.

Weakness:

Impossible to adjust flash settings in the dark because the LCD display is not backlit. Annoying how it will 'reset' some of the settings after each picture. Was confused on a few of the special settings and the manual wasn't very detailed about anything. The website was also less than helpful.

Very good value. Not a perfect camera, but great features for the price.

Strength:

I like the feel of the camera in my hand, which is part of why I picked this particular camera. I like the quality of the photos I take and the ease of using the zoom feature. I have also had good results with the macro feature.

Weakness:

I do not like the way the viewfinder works. It is confusing to me and hard to keep remembering to keep my subject in the lines. I also am confused by all the features and what each actually does. I'm never sure what kind of flash setting I should set.

I would not recommend this camera for beginners or for users who are not interested in keeping all the features straight. I would like a simpler approach. The price was right for me at the time, especially since I bought it on sale.

I have only ever had a Konica SLR before, but switched to the Samsung for convenience and light weight.
