Strength:

Great lense for the best pics with a p&s camera

Weakness:

no longer available

Though I already owned an SLR system before I bought this little camera maybe eight or ten years ago when I went for a two-week trip with my college course as I had little space and enough other things to carry around. There were (and are) cheaper cameras, and today even smaller ones. But I still use it sometimes and have no regrets of byuing it though it has been fairly expensive for a studends budget. If you want to get one, look at Ebay. But you should not expect to have the ability to manipulate anything the camera does. The only thing that is your decision is wether you want to use the flash or not. But if can live with a camera without zoom and without the most sophisticated look you will get wonderful sharp, brilliant and even with flash absolutely correct exposed pictures! I love it!!

small controls, but that comes with a small camera

a true value for the money. Probably the best value in a moderate priced P&S around.

Weakness:

I take bad pictures with this indoors, especially under florescent lighting

This is my main backpacking camera. Over the past three years, I have shot 100 or more rolls of film through this little marvel. From the dessert to the mountains, and everything in between, I have gotten some wonderful snap shots. The pictures that come from this camera are every bit as sharp as the ones that come from my Rebel G SLR. I use the Super T almost exclusively now.

Strength:

viewfinder (two yet!)
flash modes
color saturation

Weakness:

No Zoom
Not as sharp as I'd like

I bought this camera for P&S situations with an expectation that it would deliver very sharp pictures (zeiss lens). Perhaps my unit is not focussing precisely, but I am not seeing the Tack Sharpness that I would have liked. The color saturation is excellent. Sharpness of images is OK, but not stunning. The viewfinder is excellent, and having the option of the topside viewfinder is very handy when one desires a low viewing angle composition. Pics are best when taken in natural light, and with the flash OFF or ON, but not on AUTO or Red-eye reduction. For the money its a good camera.

Strength:

very good quality/price ratio
takes very sharp and contrasty pictures in good lighting conditions
additional waist-level viewfinder enables taking candids
flash exposure is very precise, including fill-in mode
autoexposure is precise enough to use with slide film
weatherproof and rugged-I carried it on several hiking trips, high altitude climbing, used it in a rain, cold, dropped once on concrete from 1 meter - still works fine

Weakness:

shutter lag is about 1 sec, no exposure compensation, no aperture control, program mode favours large apertures, where lens performance is not the best
easy to make focussing error, since IR focussing beam is very narrow

the best compact camera for money. tessar lens from Zeiss can give excellent results which can rival SLR quality. In poor light conditions camera favours large apertures, where tessar lenses in general are quite soft. The lack of aperture control in this respect would be very useful

Strength:

Simple and quick to use.

Weakness:

Haven't found any that really stand out. Every camera has faults, no sense in repeating them.

I've been very pleased with the results. I shoot only slides and this little camera has been excellent for my needs so far.

Strength:

Small, sharp lens, accurate exposure, able to take anywhere, waist level finder.

Weakness:

Focus lock is too sensitive when pressed halfway. Can trip shutter too easily.

This camera is amazingly sharp for a P&S. The photos I take look like ones made from an expensive SLR. It is very compact and able to go anywhere. I love the 35 mm lens. It's a little wider than a 50 mm normal. The waist level finder is a wonderful addition! You can pretend you're fiddling with the controls and then take pictures of people in public with them unaware.

Strength:

This camera has a great lens if you know its limitations. It affords me the ability to carry a camera everywhere I don't want to carry my Nikon F-4s.

Weakness:

The shutter lag can be a little frustrating but for the price I'll put up with it. In dim light (I primarily shoot 400 speed Tri-x & Fuji color) it seems to default to a high shutter speed/ wide aperture mode which causes some vignetting of the image.

I have used this camera for some editorial assignments because of its portability. I have not been displeased with the results. As long as you recognize its limitations you can really have some fun with this camera as well as do serious work. The close-up capabilities are better than most slrs with moderate wide angle lenses.

Strength:

Ok, it does have a good lens but nothing else

Weakness:

slow picture taking
lack of zoom
price

It's a compact camera that is famous for a smart lens and being weatherproof but there is not a whole lot to add. This is a basic plastic 6.7 oz camera that has nothing to offer to a more experienced photographer. I needed a zoom camera and got rid of this one.

Strength:

Has very good lens, but I think a little overrated (perhaps it gets extra points for the Carl Zeiss name?). Weather resistant and sturdy. The 90 degree auxilliary finder is sometimes useful, as is the "infinity mode" setting.

Weakness:

The lens is slow to move into shooting position after shutter button is depressed, resulting in overly long lag time. This is true even if you lock the focus by pressing the shutter button halfway, since the lens doesn't move until the button is fully depressed. The shutter button's focus/AF lock point is difficult to use. It requires a delicate touch to avoid either losing the lock or accidentally pressing too hard and taking the shot prematurely. I often see darkened corners on my outdoor photos. The build quality of the camera seems about average.

A good carry-along camera for scenics and "smile-and-say-cheese" type people photos, but the long shutter lag time makes candids difficult.

Customer Service
