The IBM SmartCard Security Kit is an integrated hardware and software offering with advanced access control for desktop computers.??The IBM Smart Card Security Kit blocks access to your system until a valid Smart Card has been inserted into the SmartCard reader and your PIN is entered correctly. Passwords are stored on your hard drive which can be easily hacked. All PIN codes, digital signatures, digital certificates and encryption/decryption codes are stored on your smart card, not in the system. The secure screen saver blocks access to your system if the Smart Card is removed. Access is enabled when the SmartCard has been reinserted into the Smart Card reader and the correct PIN is entered. The IBM SmartCard Security Kit features encryption and decryption of hard drive files which occur without requiring any action by the user, as long as the SmartCard is present.
