    Strength:

Decent Speed and color, fairly easy set up.

    Weakness:

No Digital ICE or Multisample scanning

Great scanner for the money( I got mine for free when my newspaper ordered 3000 rolls of film) Even the $500 price is worth it.

    Customer Service

It was hard to download an updated TWAIN driver for Windows ME as Canon's USA website didn't have a link to it

    Weakness:

The 35mm film holder is very delicate, special care should be taken when using it but I'm a slide lover so I really I don't use it a lot.

The is an excellent scanner to buy. It is very fast and the best thing is its software is very great and easy to use. I don't really need Vuescan software to scan my slides and negatives. I've to say I really love this scanner. There is no need of ICE, ICE is totally worthless, why pay 3 times more! I use Dust-off spray to clean my slides and negatives believe me there is no need of ICE feature! I love Canon Canoscan FS 2710! I recommend this scanner to everybody from beginner to professional level.

    Strength:

    price

    Weakness:

Speed of scaning positive slide (except of prepering to scan - goes up end down to prepare to scan about 30 sec. - that was making me crazy), negativs have bad color-need constantly be repaird in Photoshop.
Slides have a litle too much blue tone. Sensitive for dust and scratch. Each scan need contrast corection in Photoshop.

NO digital ICE. Slow because of no multisamling scaning. Each scan need to be scaned one by one and repaird one by one. If you have money buy another. (nikon)

    Weakness:

    Poor shadow detail
Colors are almost always off compared to the original

Have not been happy with the results from this scanner. While it provides good detail overall, the slides and negatives that I have run through it have all had colors that differed enough from the original that I always have had to use Photoshop to fix them. However, even Photoshop was unable to bring out the shadow detail that was lost in the original scan. The scans for daylight shots are decent. I have not tried other film scanners yet but I am returning this one mainly because I am not satisfied with the colors of the scans.

    Customer Service

Very quick to answer my call but ultimately the technician was unable to help me solve my problem. I had to figure it out on my own with help from the manual and my own persistence.

    Strength:

Affordable. Reasonable scans when it works.

    Weakness:

Slow, troublesome. Persistence required to get good results. SCSI card.

While it worked well at first, this scanner has given me continual problems. Will not work at all with Win2000 Professional OS, despite Canon saying it will. Will now not work with Windows ME, despite having worked on this machine before and all troubleshooting steps being followed. Manual and drivers woefully inadequate. I am very disappointed in this scanner. Canon support on their websites also woeful. I wish I'd spend a bit more and bought something else.

    Strength:

Cheap, easy to configure on Windows 98/ME, easy to scan, APS option.

    Weakness:

Most scans color does not correspond to original photo whatever you do. Expert mode on software are a bit dificult to use, even for experienced guys. Does not install on Windows 2000 even with the new patch for that.

The FS2710 is a good scanner for amateur/home use, but it very far to be the best in its class.
Even if you pretend to buy an amateur scanner give a look at other brands like Minolta or Nikon.
If you are a professional looking for a low price scanner I sugest you to forget about this equipament.

    Customer Service

    Strength:

    aps adaptor included
    scsi card included

    Weakness:

    poor quality scan:
    - poor contrast
    - high digital noise right into low-mid tones
    - poor colour accuracy
    - poor dynamic range(blacks are grey not black)

    poor/confusing software
supplied scsi card was ISA not PCI

The scans from this scanner so poor that they are virtually useless - not even good enough for low-res web display.

The overall quality of this product & of canon's after-sales support was so poor I will never purchase anything made by canon again.

NB I have reviewed the FS2700

    Strength:

    SCSI-2 interface
    Scans slides well

    Weakness:

    Supplied software is slow
    Forget scanning color negative film

A decent scanner. Very useful if you shoot slide film. The colors are good and the resolution is acceptable.

Forget about scanning color negative (print) film. The colors are way off and almost impossible to correct. The only negative film I have had any success scanning with is Fuji NHGII.

The supplied software is counter-intuitive and slow. I have had a lot of luck with VueScan though. Given enough work either provides about the same results...

I use the slide scans for enlargements up to 8x10 with quite acceptable results. I save the scans as TIFs (about 20MB for a full resolution scan) and send them over the Net to a local photo shop for printing.

I use the scanner on a PII-450 with 256MB RAM running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional. The speed is acceptable using VueScan (which is a memory hog, good thing I have plenty of RAM). I have not experienced the issues other people have had with Win2K. This is not the first SCSI-2 device on my machine, perhaps that is the reason it was so easy to set up.

If the scanner handled color negatives better, I would rate it higher. Unfortunately it only does half the job I bought it to do. For everything else I have to resort to traditional processing. And I really wanted to get those old pictures on CD...
