    Strength:

    - Less expensive than it''s Nikon and Canon counterparts but with more dynamic range! - Easy to use - Scans fast enough for me.

    Weakness:

    Haven''t found any.

This is my first film scanner. I''m glad I waited a bit longer before buying one. I wanted to buy the Nikon LS IV ED but was not quite impressed with its 3.6 dynamic range. Then comes Minolta''s Dimage Scan Elite II with the 4.8 dynamic range - more information in the shadows! The software is quite easy to use. Then the Photoshop LE that comes with it is enough for me when I want to make some more alterations. The scans are sharp and the colors are accurate.

    Strength:

Sharp scan. Powerful software. Effective ICE and GEM. Good price (almost $200 cheaper than Nikon IV). Fireware connection (though I have not tried it).

    Weakness:

Software doesn''t work well with certain type of film. Colors can be over-saturated.

I have had this scanner for 2 months, and am happy with it. I was worried about the reported banding problem, but never had one with hundreds of scans since I bought it. Its software is actually very powerful, if one can master it. The scans are sharp and clean (with ICE activated). The scanner is reasonably quiet. The only issue I have is over-saturation of rich colors, but it seems to vary a lot by the type of film I use. I have Vuescan, and use Minolta and Vuescan alternatively if a film is difficult. Overall, I am satisfied.

So so. I lost my manual and was happy to find it on Minolta''s website. But the PDF version of their manual is too blurry to read. Contacted them to see if they can re-post the manual. They promised t

    Strength:

    * 2,820 dpi resolution * Auto Focus * Sharpness * Small Size * Adobe Photoshop LE is helpful * Not very noisy * User Friendly * Correction tools

    Weakness:

    * Takes some time to autofocus * ICE doesn''''t have different levels of application * Extensive manual only in PDF from CD

I have been wanting this scanner for a long time. At first I was thinking it again after hearing that the scanner shows banding in enlarged scans but I decided to take my chances because it was cheap and it had advanced features. I received it today and had the chance to make several scans from negatives, slides and APS negatives with the APS adaptor. The setup was fust with absolutely no problems under windows 98. The fact that it has autofocus gives great sharp scans, although the autofocus takes time during preview and scanning. The ICE and GEM work flawlessly, although I would expect ICE to offer different levels of application. The final scans need little sharpening in Photoshop LE because the detail of the scanner is great. The slide scans need some correction because they come out blueish and dark most of the times. Negatives look good although they look a bit grainy. In general, I would suggest this scanner to any amateur or even professional. BTW: The above price is in Euros.
