Weakness:

faulty manual
incomplete software delivery(SilverFast, Binuscan Master
loud ventilator
clumsy slide holder 6x7 cm

I use this scanner with a Apple G4 350 mhz.
The scanner doesn't work with all scsi-adapters, I had to buy a new one (adaptec PD2930 was recommended). I tried it on my PC with a Dawicontrol scsi adapter and had no problems.
I had a few difficulties getting the right focus with my 6x7 cm slides but after reading the appendix all worked out well.
It's hard to compare this product with other scanners for, to my knowledge, there are no other scanners with the same features in the same price-range.
Apart from being rather noisy (I build a special box to accomodate the scanner with noise reducing foamrubber) the scanner works fast and delivers clear pictures with a full range of tones and great detail information.
It also offers the possibility to scan in 16 bit (raw data) without image-correction.
I'm looking forward to the delivery of the Silverfast software for they promise to get the most out of the scanners capabilities.
I've changed from PC to Mac for it delivers me more consistant color results. A lot of my scans are printed with the Fuji Frontier which result in great quality on photo-paper.
I had no chance yet to see the results in print for magazines. The Binuscan software is specially developed for this purpose but I didn't get it to work well on the Mac yet (it worked well on the PC).

Strength:

Binuscan does a wonderfull job of correcting.

Weakness:

Poor written directions
scanner left horizontal artifact lines in 4x5 scans. see customer service

Right out of the box this scanner had an obvious defect. Tech support recommended sending it back to place of purchase. That was fine, however I had to foot the bill for shipping both ways. And the company I bought it from does not have a replacement to ship and it will take 3 to 4 weeks to get one. Now I dont have a scanner and I have to wait 7 to 10 days to get my 6000.00 back. I would have been glad to just send it to polaroid for a replacement but nobody from Polaroid could get back to me about this and I only had 7 days to return to store to get my full refund. So I will be looking for another brand scanner.

Customer Service

Technical assistance was good at the first level of assistance. However the problem was not solved and so I was put into a level 2 response from someone who could make a decision on how to rectify the problem. after 3 days of no response I sent the scanner back.
