Strength:

Speed, grain,

Weakness:

in some difficult light situations : the color - especially red/blue

This is a great film when you want to shoot at low light situations. I haven't made enlargements yet so i can't say something about it. But there's no grain visible if you have a perfect light situation

Strength:

Very versatile film, very wide exposure latitude.

Weakness:

800 speed is closer to 640.

I use this film for mountain bike racing. It is extremely fine grained for a 800 speed film. The cost is actually cheap (buy the press pack, 20 rolls). I shoot at 640, not 800. If you shoot at the rated ISO your prints will lack saturation and will be darker than you want. Other than that this is a great film.

Customer Service

No problems.

Strength:

Available at most reasonably-upscale 1Hr shops as well as all established camera chains.
I've used this for about ten months, with exceptional results. I shoot hockey action, often under questionable lighting. For newsprint, I use Ilford 400 pushed three stops. For my own personal freelancing, I use the Fuji 800. There's occasional washout when shot at very brief exposures, but with a 2.8 70-200, I get publishable shots of action at 1/250th or 1/180th.
Being a c-41 process, almost any shop on the planet can give you fast turnaround.

Weakness:

Not available outside of high-end 1Hr shots and camera stores.

A bit grainy when blown up past 8x10, although some suggest a tiny bit of overexposure will help counteract this problem. Excellent all-purpose action film for low light (indoor) photography.

Also tried 400 ASA Kodak in similar situations with mixed results. (Too slow.)

Strength:

Fantastic colors under flash. Fantastic grain if exposed properly.

Weakness:

When shot at 800 it would always underexpose and would produce nasty grain and green where there should be black. Setting it at 640 and then processing normally (no need to tell the lab, the machine can cope with a 1/3rd stop underexpose)

Its a bit pricey (not sure how much - went halves with a friend in a brick of it). If you shoot a lot of indoor stuff or nightclub work then this is probably your bag. You still have to use flash but the results are very impressive.

Strength:

Best 800 there is, (untill now)

Weakness:

the grain, but hey.that comes with the need for 800 speed.
Its just a superia800 in a different pack and that is a bit confusing and misleading.

Its just great when you need speed.

Customer Service

The press 800 is exactly he same film as the superia 800. I called Fuji to ask a couple of times. Its just a different pack.
Based on my outcomes i must say that it is so.

Strength:

Colour in the blues and greens

Weakness:

Skin tones
not 800, more like 500
colour cross over when pushed

I am starting to go away from this film, I am very disappointed with the skin tones it produces. I do sports and other low light work, you may think skin tones aren't important, but a nice skin tone in an image improves it greatly. On the other hand the greens and blues are amazing, mainly because of the extra cyan layer. The same layer that ruins skin tones.

The speed is definately not 800, more like 500 or 400. This adds more shadow detail and more contrast.

Strength:

Best 800 out there

Weakness:

not in this film

I showed some prints from a basketball game to my photojournalism instrutor and asked him for his guess as to the ISO. He said 200. Grain very small for 800, even for 400! Color, though, is the most appealing aspect to this film. It's awesome!

This film handles really well when pushed. More often I shoot this one at 1600. Great results!

Weakness:

This film is great. Few months ago I had to cover a dance show. I popped this film into my camera, spot metered on the detail I wanted and ran through a roll. I was basically shooting the dancers for my friend who designed the costumes. The lighting was quite poor but it was dramatic. The average scene meter was indicating I was 2 stops under but since I measured of the dancers I kept going anyway. The average shutter speed was something around 1/125 at f8. When I got the prints back they were awesome. The lighting in fact WAS dramatic but even so I got all the details of all the dancers against the black background. I was truly amazed how the film came out. The grain was just like a 400 ISO. This film is my number one available light film. It’s just great!!!

Customer Service

Never Used it.

With the results I got I haven't seen anything as good as this. This has been my primary 'fast' film and its been a while I shot anyhitng else at these speeds.
