Strength:

Small grain

Weakness:

A bit muted in colours... brings out the weaknesses of the photographer

I made a comparison between Supra 800 and XTRA Superia 800. My optics could be descriped as medium priced.

Summary:
Both films excellent, but, Fuji still clearly better with my optics. My theory is that Supra requires a bit more sharpness. In other words the Fuji overcolouring forgives mistakes made by the photographer and the optics. Still, Supra 800 is definitely worth a try.

Strength:

Incredibly sharp/low grain for this speed. At up to 5X7 almost indistinguishable from slower films.

Weakness:

Hard (impossible) to find at retail stores in my area.

I shoot professional baseball for a minor league team. They have no budget for equipment, so I have to buy my own, and I don't have the budget for 300 and 400 2.8's!. This lens allows my 400mm 5.6 to produce some GREAT late afternoon and night game photos. Colors look great (natural skin tone), and grain is incredible for this speed film. My photos shot with this film have been used for posters, baseball cards, program covers, etc. It sure makes me look good! Porta may give you slightly better skin tones, but its almost 2X the cost, and for my type of work, this is the ticket.

Strength:

Excellent grain. Nice colors. Hard to tell it's an 800-speed film. Great price.

Weakness:

Only available via photography stores or Web/mail order.

Unless I know I'm going to be in bright sunlight, this is the film I will carry with me all the time. Other high-speed films (and I mean 800 or above) make you compromise by having noticable grain. Not so with this; you'd be hard pressed to tell it's not 200- or even 100-speed film.

The price is also nice -- not much more than 'consumer' 800 films. It's also available in packs of five and 20, and in a gray-market version.
