Strength:

Fine grain, vivid Greens.

Weakness:

Vivid Greens, the green in this film is very overpowering. Reds tend to be slightly muted, Blues tend to be slightly Blue/green.

I have to say, Fuji has not changed much since the 1980's. I bought 1 roll of this film and will never buy a Fuji product again. This film found most vivid green I have ever seen. I live in the desert, things aren't generally green here.

Customer Service

Don't know. I think they are just too green.

Strength:

A genuinely usable film for the UK - nice colours, contrast and range. If I had to use just ONE film this would be it. For many like me who sometimes find ourselves having to take photos against the clock this film is PERFECT! It's a real pity that there isn't a box on this review site that's labelled "image quality & usability when in a rush" - no other film would come close!

Weakness:

Poor density when compared to say Velvia or EBX on a lightbox (but then there's got to be a compromise somewhere).

I love this film!! Yeah, sure its not as saturated as EBX or Velvia. Sure its great for a 400 film but not as good as a 100 film. Sure its a teeny bit dodgy for some skin tones. BUT for the average non-pro photographer who doesn't have all day to wander about setting up equipment, or cannot afford to carry around a crate full of different films, or who doesn't put every slide under a microscope to measure grain size this film is ideal. I have a busy job and an 18month old daughter - a dangerous combo when trying to find time to get out with my cameras and this film allows me to take nicely coloured, sharp, decently contrasted shots HANDHELD (and believe me, all of you anally retentive "no tripod = poor photographer" types this can make a BIG difference to many of us). I use a Scan Dual scanner and with a small amount of level work and unsharp masking get very satisfactory results digitally.

Strength:

Color rendition when pushed. 100 quality at 400 speed.

Weakness:

Price.

This is the best all around travel, landscape, and nature film. Its E100SW in a 400 speed body. You can push it to 1600 with great results. It gives you to punch and saturation of 100 at 400 even 800 speed.

Strength:

Very fine grain for ISO 400. Nice colors for wildlife. Can be pushed to 800.

Weakness:

Too expensive.

Usually, I don''t go beyond 100 ISO whenever possible. However, with wildlife photography and very long lenses, I stopped push development at some point. This film is outstanding for it''s speed rating and very well suited for wildlife.

Strength:

Good grain for 400 speed, usable to 800. Not badly biased towards a particular colour region.

Weakness:

Bad skin tones (I use Astia to fix that)

A film with punch, flexibilty, and a strong colour. Used with a fast prime lens it allows you capture great images and effects in very difficult conditions. The only main downfall is skin tones which are overblown. Certainly not recommended for portraits. As a film that is made to do a certain job, it does that perfectly. It was ideal when I used it to cover a major Motor Show - I decided to do without flash indoors and got the deep gleam and colours from the overhead lighting.

Skin tones, colors, grain

Weakness:

Cost

This is the best film I have ever used. I have not complaints. The skin tones were perfect (I am black and my wife white, it is hard to find a film that handles both to the level of this film.) The colors pop without being over the top. The grain is as good as Provia 100F. I have printed 8x12 so far. I can''t say enough good about it.

Strength:

Fine grain for a film in its speed class. Allows the use of smaller apertures and a faster shutter speed. Excellent detail and color saturation. I''''ve seen result from fellow photographers who have pushed this film all the way to EI 1600 and the result were far better than Fuji MS 100/1000 rated at EI 1000.

Weakness:

I do understand the concept that you get what you pay for, but this film is a bit too pricey for me to use for all of my projects.

I recently had the chance to use this film because it was in stock (it''''s a bit hard to find from time to time), and I had two projects coming up that would force me to shoot in mercurial weather. I have already used the film for my first project and I rated the film at EI 320 (this is a personal preference) and had the lab process it normally (no push or pull). I was very please with the results (and so was my client-also of important note). I shot a lot of backlit situation and was amazed at the detail the film could capture. There were excellent details in the shadows although a tad less in the highlights than I''''m used to compared to slide film of a lower ASA. The film exhibited excellent color saturation and rendition. The film had the typical "pop" to its color that I''''ve become accustomed to seeing when using Provia 100F. Most of my shots were action shots taken in the late afternoon and I appreciated the fact that I could use a smaller aperture and a faster shutter speed.

Customer Service

I haven''''t needed it yet.

Strength:

Great saturated color and sharpness in a variety of conditions. Fine grain.

Weakness:

A little expensive, but nothing really compares to it in this speed.

Hard to tell the difference between this stuff and Provia 100F. Even in direct sun! Don''t forget the 81A filter in the shade, though.

speed and grain

Weakness:

none! Better than some 100/200 speed slide film!

In my opinion, better than kodachrome 64 which as of not long ago was the standard for slide film. I have used Fujichrome 100F and enlargments up to 8X10 are hard to tell the difference.

This is the only 400 iso speed slide film I have used.
