Strength:

Power, reliability, and total portability, and off camera, hand holdability for on site nature macro shots.

Weakness:

Speedlight users don't realize what they are missing, with their auto everything flashes.

The flash is strictly for the medium to advanced photographer. You must have a modicum of knowledge on old school manual flash photography!

Just for testing purposes, I stood on my porch and took a photo of my car 65 feet away, at F:5.6 @ ISO 400, and then illuminated my neighbors house at the same distance.

Since then I have used it at concerts, Santa with kids, and just recently at an Athletic dancing demonstration where I was shooting at 1/12th power at up to 20 feet away manually. Totally oblivious to the power setting till afterwards!

I was fascinated that, with a minor flick of my aperture wheel. on my Pentax K10d DSLR, I had perfect control of light, and the recycle time was faster than three shots per second in some instances where the action picked up the falsh kept up as well, and the coverage was complete, with no falloff, and there was no color correction needed. Skin tones were right on! This flash is so predictable in manual mode, with just a little practice, a person will not have to rely on the sensor, but even then it is nearly perfect with the exception when the action is spread out away from the flash, and there will ultimately be some falloff.

I shot over 460 shots that night with no power shortages from the just recently developed, Lithium battery pack as well, and more affordable than the older Dryfit Lead acid. The recharge time is faster too! As for the price, the Lithium is $45-50, where Metz is charging $89.00 for their's. I found mine on E-Bay, under Metz Lithium battery.

I liked the 60 CT-4 so much, I bought a second one for a mated set for on site portrait work, and with the power setting dial, I can have full power @ 1/1000th second, down to 1/256th power @ 1/8500th second burst speeds, which can be used for portrait lighting ratio photography if you know what I mean!

It has these nine settings in Manual, and when set on W, you can shoot burst photos of fast action at three shots per second for three seconds safely. I almost forgot to mention the Nine auto settings from F:2.8 to F:22 But you better buy a couple 400 Gig High speed SD chips just to keep up! All this with a guide number of 60 @ ISO 25 full power...It really POP's! The head rotates in every direction immaginable, for those times that you might have to bounce it off a wall or ceiling.

Try this with your Nikon Speed lights!

Strength:

Easy to control, great GN, fast recycle times.

Weakness:

Some call the battery pack. But even my wife nowadays uses this flash, so I can't find any

This is the flash that does it all for you. Carefull with the power though, but correct use of this flash improves your flash photography a lot. Also for home users like me.(so not exclusively for pro's!) I take about 100 to 150 photo's a week and many (in winter months all) are taken with this flash.

Customer Service

non needed for over 10 years with absolutely more than 25.000 flash photo's. New dryfit battery bought via Ebay.

Strength:

Power, handling, quality, construction.

Weakness:

Difficult to find a remote sensor for it.

Lots of power for a hand-held and battery-powered unit. Internal sensor is dead-on for most average indoor environment. Well balanced because the battery is inside the shoulder-carried power pack. I don't think I'll need a TTL module afterall due to the accurate internal sensor.

Customer Service

None needed so far.

Strength:

Easy to use TTL mode is great, use it nearly all the time on my Nikon F-80. It is connected together via a Metz SCA adapter. Lead acid battery is mains rechargeable and recycles ever so quick. Battery pack comes with a shoulder strap.

Weakness:

None

I bought this flash with the dryfit battery. And gee whiz it really powers, and there's never a shortage of it. Reason for buying is that I was shadow shooting with a professional wedding photographer who was using the 60CT4 one time, and I was using the Nikon SB28. We had the same film, but his flash pictures were way way way better than mine. Soon after, I bought the mighty 60CT4 and was producing the same quality flash photos. Seeing the impovements justifies the purchase.

Strength:

Solid product with fill flash and main flash.

Weakness:

The service at the local agent ''s**k'' big time. Do not buy this product if you are locate in Singapore because you are unlikely to get any after sale service.

Good solid product. I bought the unit used for $450. The auto metering doesn''t seem to be very accurate and need a lot of compensation. Bought down about 10 mths ago and was sent to the locate agent for repair. The unit was return after 9 mths at the agent, untouched and unrepaired. Finally went and bought myself a Quantum Qflash which work superbly and have more accessories. The customer service is also first rate.

Customer Service

One of the worst I have ever encountered. After sending it in for 9 mths decide to get it back. The flash was in the same plastic bag that it went in, which probably means that it was remove from the

Strength:

Great power, and just about every feature, function, and accessory you can think of.

Weakness:

Could have a completely independant power control for the second flash.

Once in a while you come across a product that you just know must have been designed by power-user. The old Canon T90 was one of these, and so is the CT60-4 I have been using it since it was launched, and its predecessor before that.

Customer Service

Never had to use customer service in all these years.

Strength:

High guide number. Auto mode seems accurate without diffuser. Haven't used diffuser yet. Quick recharge with dryfit battery. Flashes every time. Fill flash is a neat feature. Doesn't add a lot of weight to camera weight. Most of weight is in battery pack hanging from shoulder strap.

Weakness:

Recommend purchasing coiled cord to connect flash to battery for feild work. Not coiled cord it comes with is to long to deal with. Doesn't have alternative to power source. Keep that battery pack charged and hope it never goes out in field.

I was impressed with both Calumet and Bogen customer service. I like the flash. It seems to do what I need so far. It also feels more substantial than the Sunpack yet the flash unit itself had less weight. Good for people who need a reliable flash that puts out power. Guide number is 50 feet with iso 100 film.

Customer Service

Customer service, both from Calumet and Bogen is very good. 1st time out with flash I noticed that the programming center on the handle wasn't lighting properly. I called Calumet and they said to call Bogen to make sure it wasnt' something I was doing and if not I could return it to them for an exchange. After talking to Bogen I ended up sending it to them for warranty work. I shipped the flash next day on Thursday and by the following Wednesday I had it back all working fine.

Strength:

Very powerfull Gn. Very reliable manual scale for manual flash, hard constructed. Fill flash powerful, more flashes per battery charge. it is good also with the ttl modules in ttl setting

Weakness:

when you use the diffuser it shorts the distance for auto settings, if you are out of range it can deliver more light than the needed maybe 2 more stops

If you are a wedding photographer you may need to use it, is very reliable always ready when you need it, fast recycle times

Customer Service

One time to ask about the sensor, and good response

If you're shooting weddings and must have a reliable powerful flash then don't fret over the money because this flash will pay for itself over and over agin.

Customer Service

Flash required a slight adjustment. Customer service responded that day and shipped it back no charge overnight. They put in a brand new flash tube even though it was once month past warranty at no charge.
