Strength:

Produces an amazing, soft light that looks almost like natural lighting. Can fire only one of two tubes for good modelling. TTL exposure.

Weakness:

Clumsy to set up and use in the field, which is my only interest. You have to set the film speed and focal length of the lens manually, and it is easy to forget to do this, and easy for the dials to be moved off course inadvertently.

I do a lot of hiking and like to do a lot of spontaneous shooting and was attracted to using this flash when my hand-held natural light mushroom shots were consistently blurry. Now I can "snapshoot" amazing mushrooms shots in the fall here in the Northwest rain forests. I have also expanded my horizons by taking insect, lichen, and other small plants and the myriad microscopic flowers produced in our forests in the spring. Once I get over the clumsiness of setting it up initially, I am just amazed at the beautiful little world I can bring back into the comfort of my home with this extremely high quality lighting system. (I use this with the 105mm Nikon macro lens.) I consider this one of my most interesting photographic "accessories," producing images with a spontaneity that would otherwise be impossible. It also gives me glorious portraits of my parrots.
