Strength:
TTL Flash. Wireless remote feature is a joy. Very easy to use. Definitely a step up from using built-in flashes.
Weakness:
Probably the compatibility with lens focal length range (24mm-85mm - 14mm with the wide-flash adapter flipped down), but that can always be adjusted by bumping up the flash output level compensation value for longer focal lengths. I'm not a big fan of built-in flashes, especially the ones that are on the D50 and D80 which I own. The SB-600 is fantastic. I have an omni-bounce diffuser attached to it and I couldn't be more pleased. Paired up with my D80, the wireless remote feature for the SB-600 is superb and the range is decent. It's a TTL flash which is a bonus. It's lighter and cheaper than the SB-800. The SB-800 does provide more detailed information on the LCD than the SB-600. |

Strength:
Easy to use, Wireless slave mode is available, great battery life. Diffusion hood for the closeup mode does a great job in doing bounce flash.
Weakness:
A little stronger build would be nice So far I have two SB-600s and I love them. The I-TTL flash works beautifully, and for the portraits/sports work I do it has plenty of light. I do wish the build would be a little better, I accidently dropped it about 5 feet onto a wooden floor and broke the bulb and another part on the inside. The modes are easy to set on the flash (Manual, I-TTL, TTL) and flash exposure comp is very easy to set as well. The readouts are large and easy to read. Customer Service Had to send it in to get impact damage repaired, sent it in and got it back in about two weeks. Similar Products Used: Other SB-600, SB-28DX |

Strength:
Small, compact, lightweight, and very well built. It also has a very sturdy metal hot shoe attachment.
Weakness:
In all honesty, I can't think of any. Well, perhaps a pull-out bounce card, like on the SB-800. This is a very good flash unit. And it packs a wallop, for such a small and compact flash (guide # 96). I find the user menu to be very easy to negotiate. Unless you're in need of TTL wireless flash, you probably won't need the SB-800. The zoom head works automatically with the proper lenses, or manually with any lenses. I find the TTL metering to be very accurate. It also has a 14mm diffuser panel built into it, which can be quite convenient. When discharged at full power, it recycles very quickly, and with lithium batteries, it recycles almost immediately. I highly recommend it. Customer Service Haven't needed it. But the Nikon tech's on their hotline, are very knowledgeable and helpful. Similar Products Used: SB-800, Vivitar 285, Sunpak 433D TTL. |
