Quantum Instruments Q-Flash Model T2 Flashes

Quantum Instruments Q-Flash Model T2 Flashes

DESCRIPTION

Qflash uses parabolic reflectors for softer, cleaner light. The reflectors are removable for bare-bulb lighting. The flash head bounces and swivels. Flash control is either automatic, TTL (with optional adapters), manual, or stroboscopic.

Strength:

Powerful!!! It has a true guide number of 160-ft @ ISO 100. Provides enough power for just about any portable flash circumstance. Very rugged construction. This unit is definitely built for constant professional use. Manual power settings in 1/3 stops!!! Most flashes only give full stop manual power setting controls. If you are looking for a powerful TTL flash for you super-automated camera system this is it!

Weakness:

Long (1/300th sec.) flash duration at full power. Too slow to synch with 1/250th focal plane shutter on 35mm SLR. It will synch with leaf shutter at 1/250th, but you will have to reduce power output if you want to synch at a higher speed. Also the long flash duration tends to blind folks eyes when you are taking portraits. I have gotten many complaints from people who say they see nothing but spots after I have taken their photo. A short flash duration <1/1000th does not have this effect. Setting controls using the buttons is a ROYAL PAIN IN THE A$$. Working in manual mode, you have to push the "Set" button multiple times to find the setting you want to change and then scroll with the "Up" and "Down" buttons to find which setting you want. Way too much fiddling and time wasted getting the right setting. A slide or rotating button would make things faster and easier to work. The weaknesses mentioned above have caused me enough grief that I am looking for a different flash.

I have the older model T. Using it with the Turbo Z battery gives me plenty of flashes. This unit and its brother the QFX are probably the most sophisticated portable lighting systems you can buy. Unfortunately since I work mostly in manual mode, the multi-button controls slow me down and frustrait me when I am in a hurry. The long flash duration at full power limits the functionality for fill-flash outdoors.

Customer Service

I have called customer service on three occasions with questions about the flash. Their technical staff was very helpful and very well trained with a lot of experience. AWSOME tech support!!! Their

Strength:

I get great consistant results with my
QT Flash. I really like the Exposure confirmation "beep" and its easy to turn off when its not wanted.
( such as during a wedding ceremony). I find the controls very easy to use. The LCD panel lights up, it is easy to read and gives me all the info I need.
The bare bulb capability and the ease of replacing the bulb, is another plus.
The light quality is exactly what I need for Weddings.

Weakness:

My model does not have a "hot shoe" mount. A real strong shoe mount would be great.

Quantum's QT2 is a great Flash. When I need to buy another light weight, portable flash, it will be Quantum QT2 with Turbo battery. I highly recommend this flash. Any Pro who needs a fast reliable well designed Flash for location or small studio, should seriously consider the Quantum QT2.

Customer Service

A phone call or an e-mail to Quantum, gets a quick, friendly, informative return call. They are great to talk to!

Strength:

* Beautiful quality of light! Didn't think I'd notice the difference, but YOU WILL!

* Auto Mode, puts out the light until the subject is sufficiently lit.

*Perfect for the beginner who is still learning lighting ratios and flash use.

* Excellent for Weddings. Soft, pretty, flattering light for portraits.

Weakness:

A little heavy, but to be expected for this kind of quality.

After just one rental of this flash, I am set on purchasing it. It is well worth the cost in the quality you will see in your work, although it is a little pricy. Especially for beginners, or new professionals. Can be used as mini portrait studio lighting as well as your event and location photography. Can't wait to own one.

Strength:

Highly powerful flash with even lighting and bare bulb capability. Flash tube is user interchangable in case of disaster, and the auto exposure sensor can be calibrated by user to suit his or her own preferences, which is unique, as far as I know. Audio confirmation of exposure is useful and I have never exhausted a turbo batteries charge on a job despite the rapid charge time.

Weakness:

The first one I bought was a complete lemon. I don't know how I managed to find a store selling a dead flash and a dead battery to match, but I did. My current one has had no problems, so I put the experience down to bad luck.

I'm not keen on fiddly buttons. I find it too easy to switch modes by mistake, when all I want to do is change aperture.

First rate flash. If only they would get a photographer to help them redesign the display and exposure controls, as opposed to a computer nerd, it would be perfect!

Customer Service

Haven't tried it. After exchanging the lemon at the store I have had no problems.

Studio Quality Lighting, Great Accessories, Great Service from Factory

Weakness:

NONE

Clearly the BEST Strobe, I've used outside of a studio and no more expensive than say a Nikon SB28. Pleanty of accesories, easy to use, and takes a lickin and keeps on tickin! Don't waste your time with the Sunpak or Metz Flashes, you will be very satified with the Quantum Q Flash T2. Their service department is very responsive and informative, a joy to work with. SIX STARS!!

Customer Service

Superb, others should follow example

Strength:

This is a powerful unit that is adaptable to all my camera systems. The bare bulb capability is worth the money alone.

Weakness:

It seems that the flash tube can be inserted incorrectly. The unit will not fire, but does not provide any other indication that there is a problem.

The Turbo batteries are heavy unit sometimes difficult to carry all day.

This is a high priced unit, capable of doing anything that the professional could need. It works well in all modes. I have several of these that I use with a Mamiya RB67, Fuji GA645zi and Nikon 35mm gear.

Customer Service

I have not had to have any of these usnits repaired. Other dealings with Quantum have been excellent.
