Strength:

1) Flash ambient ration in 10% increments. This is IMO is the biggest selling point. 2) Backlit LCD. 3)The thumbwheel. A joy to use.

Weakness:

Supposedly the battery. However mine is still going strong after hours of play.

DEAD ON !! ------------------ I got back a box of slides, the first one that I had metered exclusively with a hand held meter. I had never used one prior to this, but since I intend to do a lot of indoor shooting using strobes I figured I needed one. WOW !!. Forget the 1 billion zone multi-pattern/ multi segment metering that basically do guesswork. With a hand held flash meter you will get the right exposure each time, EVERY time. No surprises, no disappointments. One of the reasons I chose this over the Minolta auto V is its fine granularity in expressing flash-ambient mix as percentages. The Minolta shows only 4 sections of a pie which I don't think is very useful. If you want to shoot portraits with fill flash then go with the magical 20% flash to ambient ratio. The strobe light will very subtly blend in with natural light just enough to fill in the shadows. That my friends is what a hand held meter is for. Even with Nikon's legendary reputation for fill flash technology I have never been able to get such spectacular results for every one of my shots ! This is truly amazing.

I have only had the meter for a month or so. I have used it one time (for a prom) and it worked great!! Exposure was perfect! I recommend this meter to anyone. It is easy to use and has a lot of functions. I think I am going to enjoy it. Thanks all for the reviews on this site. It helped me make my purchase decision.

Strength:

Easy to operate and understand. Price.

Weakness:

Battery. Plastic case may crack under abuse.

Needed an ambient light meter. This one is available at a good price. It has shutter and aperture priority settings. It is also light and easy to operate. Quibble is with the battery. Cannot take the traditonal AA or AAA batteries. Needs a battery that cannot be recharged and looks to be unavailable at the nearest grocery store. Also needs pretty pricy attachments to act as a spot meter.

Customer Service

Never used it.

Strength:

Size Compactability and portability Fits in my top pocket Led for dark shoots Auto power save, switches off at 20 mins Spot attachments 1, 5, 10 (?) All of the items listed in general summary.

Weakness:

Price in my country. Cheap casing, needs to be more hardy.

I got this meter through Robert White online and saved a bundle of money in my own currency for my troubles. This is an absolute gem of a meter which does just about anything and everything you could ever want a meter to do and more. I use this meter as my general workhorse when shooting 6x7 with an RB67 Pro-S. It is through shooting MF that I have been able to build up a nice rlationship with the meter and it feels great to use in the hand. Yes I wish like everybody else that the body casing was made from hardened titanium but I'm a careful fella anyway and don't plan on dropping it any time soon so... Too many features to mention here, you need only go the www.mamiya.com to download or peruse a manual but some of my favourites are... Up to 9 metered memory and averaging function. LED lights screen electro blue when light ambient light is too low. Both incident and reflective as well as spot attachment capabilities. Cumulative flash and ambient readings. Flash synch and off metered readings. Metered readings in 1/2, 1/3 and 1/10 steps to your requirements. The list goes on and on. I am exremely happy to be using this meter and it is bang on given that you calibrate all your other gear and film to your satisfaction. I have and have never looked back.

Strength:

Size, ease of use and array of features make this (for me) a better cost-effective choice for me instead of the L-608 for triple the price. I can use my Nikon's reflected meter intead of having one on the handheld lightmeter.

Weakness:

None yet.

This meter has not replaced but rather complimented my Polaris. The ability to average exposure, determine the amount of flash in the total exposure, and the remote triggering of my strobes is a life (and time) saver at weddings. Exposure is dead-on, and the meter is quite intuitive to use. Highly recommended for only $219!!

Strength:

Backlit LCD screen. Retractable dome. Light weight. Loads of features in it - more than I need.

Weakness:

Plastic body feels "cheap" and fragile.

Manual is well explained. The meter is easy to use. Tried the flash metering mode with 3 Bowens Esprit 500 monoblocks, and an Olympus E-20 digital camera. The exposure was excellent.

Customer Service

So far, no need for that.

I have wanted a light meter for the longest time and did a ton of research. I chose the L-358 because you have shutter or aperature priority. Has EV and flash analytics built in and you have the choice of 1/2 or 1/3 stop increments. So this lightmeter is designed for all most every camera. I tested it vs my camera and with a roll of velvia/gray card and it''s deadly accurate. Having the flash evaluation is the main reason I bought it because knowing how much of the exposure is related to the flash is important to me and hopefully it will prevent flash blowout in important situations. I looked at the Gossen Digital Pro F/Minolta IV and the Sekonic. All worked great, but when I decide to purchase a spot attachment I have a choice of 1,5,or 10 degrees while the Gossen has no option, and the Minolta only has a 5 or a 10 degree spot.

Strength:

1. It is "Pocket Wizard Digital Radio Receiver" ready if you need that, I didn''t, I got mine without the "Plug-In Transmitter" and saved money. This can be added later. 2. The Flash Analizing function works great. This is the main reason I chose it. 3. Has cord and cordless flash. 4. Easy to operate, very intuative, looked at the manual briefly to get the hang of it. 5. A spot meter attachment can be added (1, 5 or 10 degree). 6. LED backlit. 7. Case is nice, velcro closure on flap. Literature said it is "All Weather Design" I''ll let someone else prove that. 8. Dual ISO settings with memory. 9. Displays Cine speeds. 8. I like the light weight of this unit. I don''t want to have a brick around my neck. 9. The color is sout of "Gunmetal Gray" not silver like some of the photos look.

Weakness:

The previous review mentioned the "Giraffe Cord", well I had both the Sekonic L-358 strap and my camera strap around my neck at the same time. The Sekonic strap is longer so you don''t bang your camera with the meter. To me, it makes sense that it is longer. This may or may not be a weakness but it uses a CR123A Lithium battery which I am sure last longer, but costs more than a AA battery that other light meters use. To soon to tell on this one.

This has probably everything you will need in a Light Meter. I am very happy with my choice.

Customer Service
