    Strength:

It's a nice combo for the price.

I've had mine for at least 5 years now. It's a very nice combo to take on location. I have had 1 battery pack finally go bad. JTL wanted around $100 to rebuild the pack or you can buy a new pack for around $135. I had Batteries Plus rebuild the pack for $25! How awesome is that?

    Customer Service

I had no problems with their cutomer service.

    Strength:

None none it doesn't work. Might make a nice paperweight.

    Weakness:

DOES NOT WORK MORE THAN ONCE IN DC MODE.

There is a design flaw with these battery packs, and any owner will tell you as much. The first one I got with the head worked great for one shoot, and then never worked again, even with an external lead acid pack plugged into it. JTL replaced the pack, and then the replacement failed after the first shoot day. Exactly the same problem.
These units have burned me twice when I needed them, and I will never trust another JTL product again.

    Customer Service

Helped me th first time, then hung me up to dry.

    Strength:

Low cost, effective basic lights. Do what they say on the tin. Good quality light modifiers and stands included in kit.

    Weakness:

Batteries very problematic. Worthless might be a better description.

I purchased the JTL Mobilight 300 on really only two considerations. First, that they were both mains and battery powered with a decent Ws rating. Second, cost. Cost was particularly important as this was my first foray into mono-bloc lighting and I didn't want to make an expensive mistake.

I purchased a kit of two mobilights, two batteries, lightstands and a couple of reflectors from Adorama in October 2005. This in hindsight was an in-expensive mistake.

I had to return one of the battery packs immediately as it would not charge. JTL replaced this promptly. However, the other battery failed around October 2006. Now, both battery packs fail to power the flash. Sadly, but understandably JTL sticks to their warranty clause. So the batteries are junk. One of the Mobilights is also non-functional. Something inside has failed causing the light to strobe randomly whenever AC power is connected.

JTL are not particularly sympathetic to replacement offering me only the option of replacement of the battery units at my cost. Disappointing given the units are just over a year old.

On the plus side, these have been great lights to learn lighting techniques on. They do everything advertised and have all the standard (if basic) features. On the minus side, I would not call them a great investment. A good learning tool perhaps. The batteries are particularly poor. Anyone considering purchase should bear that in mind.

Would I purchase again? Depends. A JTL Mobilight 300 with battery is retailing at about $340 on Adorama. Difficult to beat for bang per buck. Probably wouldn't though.

    Customer Service

Batteries replaced quickly. US representative seems to be an importer, so is unable to repair battery packs. No support or sympathy outside of warranty period.

    battery problems

flash has worked fine on ac but having a continuing problem with the battery packs which after one or two sessions no longer will hold a charge.i have returned 4 batteries over the past year.customer service has been courteous but so far have not been able to solve my problem. i've been told that the mobilight can be powered by a quantum turbo battery pack, but at $400.00 that solution defeats the original purpose(the attractive price of the mobilight).

    Customer Service

courteous but sofar unable to help

    Strength:

Price price and price, Photogenec lights are similarly priced, but the batteries are prohibitive. More powerful than rated. Very smart flash tube and modeling lamp design, you never have to toech the bulbls to remove or install them

    Weakness:

Quality control appears to be lacking

I ordered 2 lights from Adorama with batteries. I had to send one back because it would not fire on AC power. When I received the replacement light I was unable to use it on battery power, as the battery pack didn't work. I sent it back again, and it worked for about 3 months. One of the lights now won't fire at all, and I am having to send it in for repairs. So far, customer support has been very curteous.

    Strength:

Easy to set up and use

    Weakness:

    Shocking

Recently I have experienced a tingling shock from one of my JTL 300's. I am even receiving the shock through my synch chord. From what I have read about JTL Corp, they are not very helpful. Any helpful comments would sure be welcome.
