Strength:

Extremely sharp. An L lens without the red ring.

Weakness:

AF is slow compared to USM lenses.

An excellent, sharp, fast 100mm prime with macro ability. MM is slower than USM, but with a macro shot, you'll MF anyway. Portraits are nice with this lens, but may be a bit *too* sharp!

Strength:

Razor sharp pics. Excellent optics.

Weakness:

The AF is slow.

Optics-wise, this lens is as good as any "L" lens Canon has ever made. If only they had something other than the slow micro-motor, AF would be faster.

Model Reviewed: EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro

Strength:

Sharp 1:1 images with excellent color and sharpness. Front element is recessed enough that a lens hood isn't really that necessary. Uses 52mm filters.

Weakness:

It's a little heavy for handheld work in marginal lighting.

This lens is a very good 1:1 macro lens. Operation is the best with manual focusing for macro work. This lens is a little too sharp for portrait work.
