Strength:

I don''''t need to say anymore.

Weakness:

High price.(for me) The focusing ring too big. Easy turn it when recomposit the view.

Believe me. Get it! I want a light weight lens to replace the 70-200L (I sold the 70-200L because it is too heavy). I chosen this lens because of light weight, small and f/2. I can said this is the most sharp mid-range tele-lens on this planet. Even fully open at f/2.0! Optical as same as (or better than)100mm macro. AF super fast. Get it and stay with you in your life time!

Strength:

Very sharp Beautiful background blur Light weight Fast AF speed IF Good handhold balance Less "Plastic feel" than my EF 28-70/2.8 L

Weakness:

Cann''t find any,Just wondered if Canon will make an 135/1.8 L

I take sports photos as my major.Especially indoor sports such as volleyball and basketball. So I want to choose some primes beside zooms which I use on general. The 135/2.0 L maybe is the sharpest Canon EF lens I ever used. even compare with my 200/1.8 L and 300/4.0 IS L. I mount the 200/1.8 L on tripod or monopod everytime, when it stop down to 2.0, the 135/2.0 L still seems sharper, also at 2.0. Don''t know why. The background blur is beautiful and natural, I believe all prime lens do this better than zoom lens. No need to say more about the vignetting and distortion control and AF speed. BTW, it''s very light, compare with 70-200/2.8 L. Happily I could find the 135/2.0L used but in a very good condition(Looks like brand new) for USD $ 560! The new one costs USD $ 750 in Hong Kong.

Customer Service

Never tried, but Canon Hong Kong seems provide good service to Pros, not we consumers!

Strength:

Extremely bright viewfinder, fast and silent AF, color saturation, beautiful bokeh, very well built, not too pricy speaking of a top notch "L" lens, lens hood included.

Weakness:

None so far.

I''d been considering to buy either this lens or the EF200/2.8 L II and I finally decided to go for this one. It''s certainly the right decision. The bottom line is: GET THIS LENS! It is incredibly sharp and very well built. I remember when I first hold this lens in my hand and see through the viewfinder, wow, I can easily count the hairs of the girl I was pointing my camera to. Very bright viewfinder and you can judge in/out focus very easily with the fast aperature and the 135mm focal length. It''s almost impossible to take out-of-focus pictures (however, you should pay good attention to choosing the right focus point because of the shallow DOF). Auto focusing is very fast on my EOS 1V, and I even found it performs well in low light situation with my D30. The lens is rugged but not too heavy, and balances well with a D30 even without the battery grip. This lens can really be used wide open at f2. The color saturation is very nice and I love the beautiful bokeh it produced, which successfully isolate the main subject from irrelevant background. Together with the 16-35/2.8L, 28-70/2.8L it quickly becomes my most frequently used combo. Try it to believe it!

Strength:

sharpness, contrast, AF speed, sharp wide open, even sharper stopped down to f/4 or f/5.6, typical "L" class bullet proof construction, I have bodies that work with it!

Weakness:

some subjects (any woman over the age of about 17), rendered too sharp and don''t like the pictures, doesn''t fit on Nikon cameras 8^)

The previous reviewer must have a lens needing repair and is too stupid and/or irresponsible to recognize that the lens was out of spec. and posted a review anyway. What a Moron! Or maybe he is just full of crap. The EF 135 2L is another incredibly sharp, high contrast lens from Canon. This lens'' optical performance is as good as it gets, I have a few other Canon lenses and the EF 135 2L is as good as any I have ownd or have rented. The EF 135 2L is a little crispier, sharper then my other classic "portrait" length lens (I use the EF 300 2.8L as a portrait lens a LOT but it''s not really a "portrait" focal length), the EF 85 1.8USM. IMO the EF 135 2L is right up there with my EF 300 2.8L and the EF 200 1.8L in terms of sharpness and contrast and these are the sharpest Canon AF lenses I own or have used! Excellent lens!

Strength:

No chromatic distortion. No linear distortion. Absolutely no fall off in resolution in the corners.

Weakness:

Overall, poor resolution. Very poor performance at close focus range.

I purchased this lens based on all the glowing reviews I have seen. The lens does not live up to it''s reputation. The maximum resolution of the lens is only mediocre. After careful measurements, I have found that it is the equivalent of a used third party 135mm lens I purchased for $19. The Canon simply has no "pop". There is no crisp zone at F2.0.

Strength:

Fast
Incredibly Sharp
Built like a tank

Weakness:

Comes with a very cheap
hood and case

I got a very bad taste of canon 10 years ago when
I bought the early zooms so I thought I would try
an "L" lens. It took one roll of film to convince me that I will never use anything but an "L" from now on. This lens is built as good as the photos it creates. Definatly a portrait lens and what a good one. The best advice for anyone is to put your money in glass then worry about the body.
My early zoom lenses are possibly the worst product Canon has ever made (but they make nice doorstops).
P. S. My 1V is on order.

Strength:

Sharp, fast (both autofocusing and f/stop)lens with great close-focusing ability and wonderful tonal range. Works well with 1.4x and 2x converters.

Weakness:

Although manual focus is good, tis not as good as the electronic manual focus "feel" of the original EOS L long teles (200mmf1.8, 300mmf/2.8, 400mmf2.8 and 600mmf/f/4). Then again, it's not in the same price range either

Great lens and great value for performance. Easy to carry and work with. Optical quality---wide-open and especially close-up performance---is excellent. Anyone serious about image quality would be happy with this lens.

Strength:

Fast Solid, and easy to use. Very sharp and contrasty lens even at f/2 (relativly speaking).

I've also owned and used the Nikon 85 f/1.4 D lens & the Nikon 135mm f/2 DC ~the overall quality is comparable. Nice large hood (Although I like built in hoods)

Weakness:

overall, none to peak of. If I could change it I would add a better case. Personally i prefer a built in hood for ease of use with a Polar. filter, but you can't have everything.

I also like the metal onstruction of the Nikon lens.

A great meium telephoto lens. Fast and sharp. Quality is better than the Nikon AF 135 dc lens.
Great for portrait work. But for the price, couldn't they give you a decent case
