Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II 35mm Primes

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II 35mm Primes

DESCRIPTION

This is the lightest EF lens of all at a mere 130g. Compact and high-performance, standard lens. Its Gaussian optics provide sharp delineation from near to far focusing distances. The color balance is excellent for a standard lens.

Strength:

D*** cheap, very sharp WEHN YOU GET A GOOD ONE

Weakness:

Some come with spots inside the lens, build quality varies

I work in a Camera Store, so we get a number of these lenses passing though. When its quiet, we play with various camera combinations. This lens is somewhat of an enigma. Ive seem some absolutely brilliant shots from some of them, and some of them arent worth the glass inside them.

There seems to be good ones and bad ones. And like the girl with the curl, when they are good, they are very very good, but when they are bad, they are horrid. When you buy one, have a look through it off-camera, and make sure there are no little black bits inside it. For some reason this lens seems to have these bits in it from the factory.

I ended up buying one that I had tested first, and made sure it was one of the sharper ones. I love it, its my number one lens. If you've got the extra money, i'd still reccomend the 50mm 1.4, but if you're on a steep budget, this is a great lens. Just make sure the shop you buy it from will let you shoot a test roll first

*light weight

Weakness:

*build quality

This lens produced some fantastic pictures with my elan 7e. At this price I really can't ask for more than what I get with this lens. what really surprised me was the build quality of the lens. as most of the previous reviews have mentioned, this thing looks fragile and feels fragile. but when I dropped it on a hard concrete surface it unexpectedly survived. there were and dents and dings and even some weird noises when I shake it but optically it's still sharp as ever. I wouldn't dare to say it can survive another drop though. This lens is not usm but it does focus pretty fast so I don't have any complaint in that regard. If you are a budget-minded user, get this lens. heck, even if you aren't, still, go get one the keep it in your bag.

Strength:

It's very small, very light, and very, very inexpensive. (under $100)

Weakness:

I'm afraid that one day the cheap plastic construction will cause it to just fall apart. But then, for the such a low price, I'll just get another. (The first disposable lens?)

If you want to make your camera ligher and still retain super sharp image quality than this is it. Great to use on hikes or long trips so that that camera hanging off your neck or shoulder doesn't cause too much pain. GREAT LENS!

Strength:

This is a cheap yet fast and sharp lens.

Weakness:

Everthing is plastic but the glass elements.

The 50mm 1.8 is an exceptional value. The focusing ring is a bit small but i won't complain given the price.

Customer Service

I haven't need any...I don't think it would be worth fixing. I would buy a new one.

Poor quality micro-motor driven AF.
( sounds like a chain saw )
Manual focus ring is tiny.
plastic - sure but its so light its actually quite tough.

Simple, unsophisticated but it cant be beaten in terms of value for money.

It isn't solid built. But it is a lens, not a hammer. If you treat it as an optical item, it produces great pitcures.

Customer Service

Don't need. If it goes wrong, I will replace it with new one. It's cheap.

cheap, ultra-sharp, lightweight,no distortion at all, fast

Weakness:

one word: plastic

Your standard 50mm lens. Does what you expect it to do, it's worth every cent. Everybody should have one, its low weight makes it perfect for always being carried around, as opposed to those big&heavy zoom lenses.
