    Strength:

    f stop weight sharpness

    Weakness:

    Not found yet

This is a beautiful lens, crisp, sharp, not to big to handle easily, and the fast f stop makes it possible to make pictures almost during any wheter. I never use a flash and that is possible with f2.5. For the price this is a great little lens. Ideal for portets.

    Strength:

Fairly fast speed Incredible sharpness Amazing color reproduction

    Weakness:

    NONE

I purchased this lense after shooting some portraits with the same lense at a friend's house. The images I recieve from this lense are superbly sharp and the colors are fantastic. The fairly fast speed of this lense makes it very versitile for even indoor shooting.

    Strength:

Sharp, sharp, sharp, clear and clean.

    Weakness:

    Manual.

I bought this in the 1970's and just thought I'd gotten lucky. Razor sharp images, it has minimal refractive glare and no spherical or chromatic aberration. I have blown PAN-X 35mm up to 16x20 with no visible distortions (except grain, no fault of the lens), sharp, sharp, sharp. I just wish that I had a 28mm, 50mm, and 200mm as sharp.

    Strength:

Great bokeh. Small, light, smooth & easy focus. Wonderful glow to people photos, but also serves well for landscape shots. Excellent shot wide open, although f/4 to f/5.6 is outstanding also.

Buy this lens. You won't regret it.

    Strength:

-abundant and cheap on the used market

    Weakness:

-average "flat" results, at least with my sample

I bought this lens in the mid 1980's and have never used it much. I find the focal length a bit long for portrait work, and prefer 85mm instead. This lens is considered a classic, but I cannot agree. My sample produces photos that tend to be "flat" - that is average contrast and sharpness. It may be that I have a mediocre sample, but I have read several reviews that have similar comments. For portrait work there are other AIS lenses that produce better results. For example I get better results with my AIS 85mm f/2.0, which is often not that highly rated. Also, the 85mm f/1.4 AIS or AF produce very good results, but these are bulky lenses and are pricey.

This is one of the "legendary" lenses made by Nikkor, with the quality build and glass we've come to expect. One CANNOT go wrong with this lens!

    Strength:

Great every thing plus compact size. Good for portrait and scenary. I would like to give a 10 rating but maximum is 5.

    Weakness:

    None I know of.

I have read all the reviews on this site before I bought this lens on eBay. Well, you all did not deceive me. I have been using this lens for more than 3 months with many rolls. I shot Velvia and Reala. All I want to say is that this lens is a magic lens. Color rendition, resolution, and contrast are just beautiful!! I compared shots with my 80-200ED lens at exact same setting, the results are same or better, without the weight. Now it is on my Nikon FE. The combined weight is so much better than my F100 / 80-200 and makes you take it all around.

    Strength:

Light, Sharp, very good skin tone, solid built.

    Weakness:

    Still looking for one

I own the version without the built in lens hood. I think it is Best of Nikon 105mm. Light, solid built. Sharp and very very good skin tone. I can't live without it for Portrait. It is even better than the 105mm DC f2 which I own as well.

    Strength:

Best lens for people photo. Light weight. Good picture quality.

    Weakness:

    Nil

I think the len should be owned by all Nikon's fans. High lens quality and ease of getting 'sharp' picture and specific for photoing people. Light weight and you can get better picture even at lower shutter speed. I use the lens for more than ten years and though I also get the 180mm ED lens, I still use the 105mm in more location because of it light weigth.
