Strength:

SUPERB SHARPNESS AND COLOUR SATURATION, MUCH LIGHTER THAN SIMILAR NIKKOR FOCAL LENGHTS. I WAS GOING TO BUY THE 80-200 2.8 EDAF, THANK GOODNESS I DIDN'T. THIS LENS IS A JOY, BUY ONE.

Weakness:

NONE

fOR PORTRAITS OR WHEN YOU NEED SOMETHING MODERATELY LONG YOU CANNOT BEAT THIS LENS FOR THE MONEY OR D*** NEAR OTHERWISE. EASILY HAND HELD, PLUS STURDILY BUILT. NOT AS FLEXIBLE AS A ZOOM BUT YOU CAN'T PRINT FLEXIBILITY IN THE DARKROOM!

Customer Service

Strength:

This lens is SHARP!!! It is nicely finished and while heavy, is well balanced. One of my favorite all time lenses.

Weakness:

None

Buy this lens. It is great for those times when you need a wide aperture or for those shots which must be tack sharp. Not enough good things to say about this lens.

Strength:

look, feel, and balance are good; built-in lens shade is convenient; image-quality is excellent

Weakness:

none so far

Thus far I have used this lens for one application only, photographing rock concerts at a live-music venue where I work. For that purpose, a fast telephoto is indispensible, and so far I have nothing but praise for this lens.
The lighting in the club where I shoot is moderate, hence I often shoot wide-open, and I rarely shoot with this lens stopped down past F5.6, unless using flash. I have been extremely pleased with the quality of my images. I am shooting mostly color transparency, and sharpness invariably holds up to the most critical inspection with a high-quality lupe. In my case, every shot that has been less then tack-sharp lack has been the result of camera-shake. I should mention that I attribute that in most cases to my having selected too-slow of a shutter speed. Of course long lenses are always harder to hold steady, but this lens is well balanced, and that plus a great feel combine to make it very wieldy for it's focal length. I often use it with the camera body mounted on a monopod, and the lens is light enough to get away with not using a collar.
A terrific prime lens!

The Nikkor AF 180mm F2.8 lens is very sharp for portraiture. This lens is now my favorite portrait lens. A picture of my mom shot on B & W Agfa 25 shows every gray hair & wrinkle on her face. Other people pictures show the same high quality sharpness. I like it!
