Strength:

Sharp, light, inexpensive lens.

Weakness:

Not the sturdiest construction, but it was the first lens I bought and have never had a problem with it.

Bought this lens with my first SLR and while others have come and gone I will never get rid of this lens. While it is not the best built or easiest to manual focus, you could not ask for anything more for the price.

Strength:

It is very Compact!

Weakness:

There are too much Plastic. And it is not better than my old AIS 50/1,8 that I prefer.

A little disappointment it is not better than the old AIS edition. But all in all a very useful lens for many different applications.

Customer Service

Very good as experienced with my other Nikkor equipment.

Strength:

Very sharp contrasty lens. For the money it simply cannot be bettered. However, be sure to use a lens hood to avoid flare.

Weakness:

Construction is on the light side; but what do you want for the price and the fact that its auto-focus?

For the money you can't buy a better 50/1.8. I have owned several 50/1.4 Nikons and the 1.8 is simply a sharper lens.

Strength:

Very cheap, cheapest Nikon lens.
Very sharp above F4.

Weakness:

A bit soft at F1.8 compare to 50mm f1.4, but sharper stopping down.

Very very good lens with that price, it is sharp and contrasy, one of my sharpest lenses (with 80-200mm and 35mm f1.4)
canon 50mm f1.4 is very good lens too.

Very fast
Can hand-hold camera in difficult situations, and "quick pictures"

Cant think of any

Absolutely fantastic lens, for its price. I am really happy I went with this. This lens, combined with my Nikkor 28mm/2.8, I dont think I will ever touch my 28-105 zoom again!

Strength:

It's very sharp lens. I mean very sharp. I wouldn't recommend to use it for lady's portraiture. Rubber manual adjustment ring. DOF scale. Very fast AF on rather slow Nikon N60. Good aperture.

Weakness:

I had some unpleasant experience with uneven closed diaphragm. It is a little bit lopsided. However, it didn't affect it's optical quality in no way. Still, if you buy it in a regular, I mean non web store, check diaphragm. It should form perfect seven sided hole.

It's very very very sharp lens. Buy it. It's much better than 28-80 Nikkor lens.

Strength:

Sharp! Possibly the sharpest nikon makes! That's really it without getting technical.

Weakness:

How could anyone even think of stating weaknesses. For the price you pay, what are you expecting....index window? IF? AF-S? Get over it and appreciate Nikon's ability to provide such a sharp lens for minimal $$$.

A must have as a back up, or as a sharp alternative to a cheap standard zoom. A+

Strength:

Incredibly light weight and small size.

Sharp, sharp, sharp.

Extremely good wide open, with better corner illumination at f/1.8 than the 50/1.4 at f/2.

Very flat field. Good with diopters, good with tubes, great with converters. Great reversed too.

Deeply recessed front element reduces need for a lens hood, allowing you to shave even more ounces.

Weakness:

None to speak of. The build quality feels lower than my 50/1.4 AF-D, but then again it has never fallen apart or failed me.

This is my lightest Nikkor AF lens, the one that goes with me on backpacking trips (usually mounted on my ancient but bombproof Nikon F). It may well be one of my sharpest lenses too, and one of the most broadly useful. Everyone should have one.

Strength:

-This is a SHARP little lens.
-I usually shoot with zooms, so the lightness of this lens is amazing!
-Great quality at a very, very good price.

Weakness:

-The lens itself doesn't have many weaknesses. I usually shoot zooms, so I'll often find this lens doesn't have the versatility, but that's as much the photographer as it is the lens! :-)

This is a light little lens, which I take on canoe-trips, and backpacking trips. Although I don't use it a lot when I have my 35-70 pro lens, the extra stop from 2.4 to 1.8 can be handy on occasion. Even though I don't use this a lot in the city, for such a cheap price, every photographer should have one in their bag.

Customer Service

Never needed them, and as I bought this lens used, I probably couldn't use them if I tried.
