Sigma 28mm f/1.8 II Aspherical 35mm Primes

Sigma 28mm f/1.8 II Aspherical 35mm Primes

DESCRIPTION

This lens boasts an uncommonly bright f/1.8 aperture, yet is compact (2.4 inches long) and weighs only 10.2 oz. Its two compound aspherical lens elements and floating focus system help eliminate peripheral sagittal flare and correct image surface curvature found in close-up photography. Available for autofocus Sigma, Canon, Minolta, Nikon(D) and Pentax. Comes with hood.

Strength:

Very nice lens, I like the finish, the controls all fall under my fingers well.
Sharp, fast, and excellent for reportage, which is what I use it for.

Weakness:

it does not always mount to the camera right; I don't have this problem with any other lens. It just needs to be removed and remounted once in awhile

Not as sharp as the Nikkor 24mm/2.8, BUT much faster than that lens and a third the price of the Nikkor 28mm/2.0 tos say nothing of the 28mm/1.4 Nikkor... a good buy!

Strength:

PRICE! light, and sturdy (I actually dropped it and it still works just fine)

Weakness:

Why is everything made of plastic these days.

I bought this lense just to have a wide angle I don't use it very often, but when I do it seems to perform well. A little lower contrast than I like but that can be fixed in the darkroom. Considering Canon's version of this lense is $460 Sigma seemed the best value for what I intended to use it for.

What a deal. I love this lens, good price, picture is sharp, even at f1.8. A best buy in a long time. People who complain about sigma should give them a chance by trying this lens. Is very well built.

Strength:

light
well finish
good definition at full aperture

Weakness:

lens hood sometimes difficult to put on - be precise !

excellent price/quality ratio in comparison with CANON offer. A little noisy anayway but I don'treally care for outdoor photography. I'm really surprised by image definition at 1.8 !
don't hesitate - buy one...

Strength:

fast, bright, smooth focusing, nicely finished, inexpensive, sharp & contrasty.

Weakness:

sigma's undeserved bad rep.

I have one of the first mf models in the US, and I use it more than any other slr lens. it's a beauty. I don't see how they can be making any profit selling this lens so cheaply!

Customer Service

excellent--sent it back to Japan and they fixed whatever was wrong without complaint.

Model Reviewed: 28mm f/1.8 II Aspherical

Strength:

It's very well built, and fast! And it's pretty inexpensive. Good resolution quality even at fully opened 1.8.

Weakness:

Difficult to disengage exposure ring lock, much seasoning needed. Slower than expected focus time (though much faster than the zooms I have, including Nikon 28-200, Tamron 28-300, just slower than my AF-S standard zoom.

A very good buy for the price, but small appeal because it's a prime lens.

Customer Service

Great dealers here.
