Build quality, light weight, sharness ( plus F5.6 )

This lens is very good value for money. I use it with a Fiji S2 pro digital camera and have had some good results of wildlife images using it handheld. AF is OK in reasonable but tends to hunt a little in low light ( I usually switch off AF and AS modes and manual focus ) This lens was used extensively by Moose Patterson - so it must be reasonably good !

Inexspensive, lightweight, built like a tank, included hood, and case

Weakness:

Not really

Great lightweight telephoto lens. Pretty sharp, and built good. Auot focuas is plenty fast for most situations, and locks on pretty good. A great value in a 400mm lens. They stopped making them ,so hurry.

Strength:

For the price, this lens can't be beat. It is very sharp and quite lightweight. I have even gotten keepers with the new Kenko 1.4 converter attached for an effective 520mm length.

Weakness:

When searching for focus, the lens "bangs" at each extreme - I called tokina and they assured me that this was normal. Owned it for 2 years and have never had a problem with it.

true, it is only an f5.6 maximum aperature lens and it does focus more slowly compared to the nikon 400 for example, but for the $450 price....i can't imagine not owning one. Better hurry though - I believe the lens has been discontinued in favor of a 400 zoom.

Customer Service

Called them twice - once to inquire about banging noise. Seems like a small shop - got to speak with people who took the time to chat. very satisfied.

Strength:

Lightweight, compact, low cost, fast AF for focal length and apeture. Even focus reasonably with Kenko Pro 300 1.4X converter.

Weakness:

none at its price range.

Great value. Even yield acceptable image quality with Kenko Pro 300 1.4X converter. Fast enough AF speed works 90% of the time (sports/wildlife.) Overall rating is only 4 since it would have been even nicer with f4 rather than f 5.6.

Strength:

Very good value. Once AF finds target, it locks well. Plenty sharp, very light.

Weakness:

The brand new lens had some resing in the barrell, but it doesn't seem to effect picture quality. Will sometimes search if the subject very different from the set AF position.

I think this is a great value. Despite some people's claims that this does not focus fast enough, If the subject is reasonable close to the set AF position, the lens will focus track nicely. Excellent value.

Customer Service

Gave a call about the resin and they were easy to get a hold of and explained the condition well. 5 year warranty is a nice comfort.

Strength:

This one the best long teles you can get for the price. Although it is only a f5.6 I have never had a problem focusing AF with the lens. The best feature is it is a close focus lens-8.5 feet. Most 400Mm in this price range focus at 20+ feet. If you can get close to your subject you can fill the frame.

Weakness:

None

I don't think you can do better at the price range of this lens

Customer Service

Not with this lens but I sent another Tokina that was stuck on wide open f2.8. I recieved a new lens in return the day they recieved it.
