Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM 35mm Zoom

Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM 35mm Zoom

DESCRIPTION

The Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5- 5.6L IS USM lens offers high resolution, superb contrast, neutral color balance, and Canon's original built-in Image Stabilizer function. High zoom magnification is achieved by means of a 6-group configuration with 5 movable groups. Fluorite and Super UD glass completely eliminate secondary spectrum for superb color rendition. Autofocusing is fast and silent with Canon's ring USM, and AF speed is further enhanced through an advanced, lightweight rear focusing design that incorporates a floating element for consistent image quality at all focusing distances from 5.9' to infinity. This lens is also equipped with a dual-mode Image Stabilizer suitable for panning as well as stationary subjects. With full-time manual focus, one-touch zooming with a wide grip, and a special ring that permits adjustment of zooming friction, this is a lens that's extremely easy to use, and ideal for a wide variety of applications including nature, wildlife, sports, and documentary photography.

Strength:

This lens has a great range and is able to produce great results. This is something that can not be said of most zooms in this range. The image stabilization really works. I have very clear pictures taken at 300-400mm while at 1/30.

Weakness:

It is heavy. This is a real consideration before taking it out.

I believe this is a great lens although a little expensive. There really aren't many choices out there. It has produced nothing but great results roll after roll. I find myself using it for shots that I would not have typically have thought that I would have used this lens for.

Customer Service

No experience with this - luckly.

Strength:

Sharp and handholdable. I also like its zoom range. The panning IS mode is a great feature.

Weakness:

Too expensive. Lens too slow for portraits.

Strictly for sports. For me, I'd rather get the EF70-200 f/2.8L USM and 2x Extender.

Model Reviewed: EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM

Strength:

Razor sharp pics throughout the zoom range from 100 to 400mm. Accurate contrast retention. The IS (image stabilizer) lets you take sharp handleld shots even at 300-400mm. The USM (ultrasonic motor) delivers fast, silent focussing.

Weakness:

None

This is a great lens. Rugged, heavy duty metal body. It's a bit heavy though, and using a monopod makes life easier.

Customer Service

None needed.
